I've been running this Commander Cube on Cockatrice for a week or so now. Results have been outstanding. It has been an excellent way to play Magic with much fun had by all. I highly recommend trying this style of EDH & Cube if you've never tried it before.
The rule-set I use is:
Draft seven 15 card packs (on http://drafts.in). Commanders are included within the draft. Build a 99 card deck + 1 picked commander, adhering to its color identity.
Absurdly powerful cards are OUT (Sol Ring, Mana Crypt, Consecrated Sphinx, Prophet of Kruphix.) Some EDH-banned cards are IN (Tolarian Academy - though it's probably not good enough for the cube and will likely be cut & Primeval Titan - though it's probably absurdly powerful and may be cut soon.) In general I think the banned list need not directly apply since it's more difficult to abuse the cards outside of EDH constructed.
Look for me on Cockatrice if you'd like to try this. Nick: Puscifer.
This was built after hosting using Dolono's & Galspanic's cubes. I ended up taking Galspanic's cube as a base but I've done such heavy modifications to my version now that I'll call it my own.
I contacted the operator of http://drafts.in and asked that the cube pack limit be increased from 5 to accommodate this. Previously I was doing 66 or 69 card decks with 5 packs. Which also worked OK but I like having the 99 card decks now to match the true spirit of EDH. I had 8 packs in mind but he increased it to 7 which has been working very well. An additional pack might make mono colored decks viable but overall it's been working fine for 2 or 3 color decks. I also asked about the possibility of modifying the site to be able to do a smaller draft of Generals first, but since then I think I really like having to adapt and finding a Commander along the way. It would just stink if someone wound up without a Commander in the end and couldn't make a deck. I'm debating adding a rule where you can have a generic Commander of any two color combination in case things just don't work out at all. Costs GW1 (or any combination), and has */* power = the amt of mana used to play it, or something.
Originally I had 3 of each tri color general and 2 five color. I don't like the five color decks. They don't need to adhere to any plan and can just pick from everything. I think it disrupts the draft a bit. I also cut down to 2 of each of the tri color decks to try to promote more dual color decks but it hasn't really been happening. In the few games I've played most everyone is still on tri color, which is fine - I just think the two color decks would be just as fun and wanted to try to encourage people trying them by modifying the cube.
Editing to add that the numbers still need balancing. And I'm not sure what the final number is that I want. I expect this to be a work in progress. Not sure I'll be able to modify the card count in the thread title later though.
Sorry for the delayed posting. I wasn't sure if you were still tweaking your list on cubetutor. Your red section is stratospheric, as far as CMC goes. Has that section been working out ok for you?
