Drafting the Cube
Drafting this cube is somewhat irregular. It is divided into three pools, which are themselves separated by rarity. These pools are intended to mimic the different sets of a full-block draft, with the first pack being taken from the first set, the second pack from the second set, and so on.
Each pack consists of ten commons, four uncommons, and one nonbasic land. The five rare split cards in the first set are treated as uncommons for this purpose, while the nonbasic lands in the cube are only ever used in the land slots. As such, the cube can support a total of ten players, in which case every common and nonbasic land is used.
Basic Information
The cube consists of 590 cards, which are spread out over three "sets."
Only cards from the two Ravnica blocks are included.
With only one exception, every common and uncommon card with a guild watermark is included.
The singleton rule is broken to include additional copies of Feral Animist, Putrefy, and Skyknight Legionnaire, as their respective guilds would otherwise be short one gold card each.
The one uncommon with a guild watermark that is not included in the cube is Vandalblast. I thought long and hard on this one, but the fact of the matter is that the cube only contains thirty artifacts, and it has thirteen cards that can serve as artifact removal. That's already very high, but most of those cards either could hit other card types or were part of a cycle. I chose to omit Vandalblast over Shattering Spree simply because there were more red cards with Overload than with Replicate.
Research (Research/Development) allows a player to choose up to four cards from their sideboard and from undrafted cards in the cube.
I have chosen to focus primarily on commons and uncommons both out of budgetary concerns and in order to more closely emulate a realistic draft environment.
While I have assembled and sleeved the cube, it has not yet been tested extensively. It has only been drafted twice, each time with only two players.
