Okay, so as this title so coyly admits--I'm a cube noob. I've read plenty of articles pertaining to how many of each card should go in based on color, how many cards should be in the cube, what cards to use, etc. I've decided on a few things already:
1. I want this cube to support at least 1 10-person draft with several cards to spare for future events (to make each event slightly different).
2. Pauper, obviously.
3. Each color has 70 cards: 60 commons and 10 uncommons.
4. All uncommons are, mainly, utility. I don't want the uncommons to become the basis for each deck. My goal is for all uncommons to help decks, but not be so powerful as to have each player see an uncommon, snap pick it, then build their entire deck around it. The commons are the stars!
5. I'm doing my best to include cards that would entice players to move into other colors.
A majority of these picks are based on personal judgement, but I really tried to pick cards that would be fun to play with. Some of them are cube staples and some of them certainly are not.
Am I going about this the right way--or is there a better method without straight-up copying another player's cube?
I realize that this list is not categorized according to CC...and that's an issue I know I have to rectify, but if my card selections are off from the get go, then why waste more time.
Additionally, is there some kind of unwritten rule that Pauper cubes have nothing higher than the common rarity?
Am I asking too many questions? (Joke.)
I'd really appreciate any help/advice that you all could give related to balance of various card types, card quality, etc.
Mods: I apologize if this thread is in the wrong area. If so, could you please move it to the appropriate space? Thanks!
I'm a peasant guy, I don't know how to assist in the making of a pauper cube.
I Can say, though, that pauper cubes have issues with grixis control being insane (i think), so support aggro and don't go nuts with removal.
Also, don't restrict yourself on the ratios. Play more dudes, but be flexible and be a slave to the experience, not the numbers.
Welcome to the forum. I'm not familiar with pauper cubes but there are plenty of great pauper cubes to view on MTGS. My friend runs a peasant cube with rare lands (no WWK manlands though). It's quite good.
I do suggest you organize your list in terms of cmc.
