I am open to suggestions, particularly in regards to refining the guilds and balancing the power level/card types. I am flexible in including non-Ravnica cards in the cube, but I'd prefer they be on theme, and have art that does not look out of place.
I wasn't aware you could do a compare in cubetutor. Looks like a very helpful tool.
Skullcrack was put in based on it's strength in constructed (where I have way more experience). I get what you are saying though, and will switch it over for Flame Fusillade (which I have been trying to fit in anyway).
I'll have another look at my Simic section. Zepplid and Trygon have been in and out constantly since I started the cube. I'd love to fit them in, but not sure what to take out.
Life from the Loam is a pet card of mine. But it probably doesn't do anything in cube so it'll come out. I've only seen growing ranks played once, but it did make a wurm token a turn, which seemed fairly effective. Could easily become a Sundering Growth or Dryad Militant.
Voice of Resurgence was cut to make room for more enchantment hate (I have found the cube becoming very enchantment focused with the latest changes), and to add Dryad Militant back in (I think this card helps other white aggro more than selesnya, but I am concerned that the cube is getting more mid-range and less aggro). Part of the reason for these changes are that Selesnya has been doing very well in recent drafts. I haven't had enough games to know for sure, but it feels like one of the most (if not the most) powerful guild atm.
Spectral Searchlight was a hard cut, as I have good memories of using it in old Ravnica limited. The removal of mana burn has made it well and truly outclassed by Chromatic Lantern, and the lantern aids a 5 colour deck (possibly a gate deck with Maze's End, which I would love to be a viable deck if you first pick pack one and get a little lucky).
Simic is the guild that I have the most cards I want to cram in, but am limited by space. The whole guild allocation could be interesting creatures, and it is hard to justify spells that don't fit the +1/+1 counter theme given how hard up the guild is for space. Unexpected Results is also on the cutting block, but the card is just so interesting that I want to keep it, even if there are not a whole lot of ways to get great value out of it.
The Ogre Slumlord was another hard cut. Black already has a few expensive creatures, and one of them was going to get cut to make room for a few cheaper cards + discard options. In the end, it may end up back in and Pontiff of Blight may be cut instead, but it needs more testing. The Pontiff is winning currently, just so there is more support for extort in the cube. Maybe the Skeletal Vampire should be cut instead, but it is a card from the old Ravnica that I have fond memories of.
With regards to fixing, I had all the fixing in my cube originally, but the best limited player in my group consistently drafted a 4 - 5 colour deck and smashed face. I have kept the fixing quantity about the same (replacing bounce and shock lands with more gates), but running the weakest option to encourage 2 and 3 colour decks instead. Also I have upped the ratio of single colour cards to multicolour cards to help facilitate this as well. Still needs playtesting to see if I have succeeded though.
Funnily enough, the Rogue's Passage / Bottled Cloister debate is one I have been considering in my head for a while. In the end I went with the passage mainly because it feels more thematic, but it could easily go either way. I need to do more testing to see if the passage is going to fit. I'll keep an eye on it, and if it is OP, it is an easy swap for the cloister.
Thanks for the tips about cubetutor. I'm still learning the ropes there. It is a surprisingly powerful tool.
Cheers,
Judas
