I want to explore the possibility of running this guy.
In a 360 unpowered cube with no real 'tribal' theme, I already run a few creature lords that are good on their own (Lord of Lineage and Siege-Gang Commander), and black and red have a lot of good vampires, goblins and zombies as a result of the last few sets, which makes Adaptive Automaton attractive as a 'wild card' lord.
In a normal cube with no themes, this guy could be set to supporting Humans, Vampires, Zombies or Goblins and pump a decent number of creatures, and he also supports token strategies.
Lastly, it would help a new player sit down and draft a linear strategy without needing to be well-versed in all of the different synergies available in a cube.
I love him, and run him in my ~500 unpowered, although I also run Goblin Chieftain, Siege-Gang Commander, Voidmage Prodigy, Captain of the Watch, and a few others.
Interesting card. I fear our 450 cube is a bit too tight to find a spot for it though.
I think the boost ability will be quite relevant most of the time. The fact that it is an artifact creature and only a 2/2 for 3 makes it very vulnerable though.
I don't run enough of any particular creature type I think to make this worthwhile, tho I have read people here having a high number of humans, but 1 card to support 1 creature type seems weak. Why not just run Glorious Anthom or Gaea's Anthem as a more stable pump (I understand they aren't colorless or can swing).

We have been running this for a while now. It has been main decked quite a bit and has been decent. It is not the most broken card, but ends up to be usefull in more decks then you might think.
White has humans and soldiers. Black has zombies. Red has goblins. Green has elves, beasts or even squirels. You might think during deck construction :'Ok , I have enough zombies (or goblins) to make this work'. When played we noticed that often just boosting one or two random creatures can be more then good enough when it messes up the combat status quo.
My verdict: A decent card, never needed in your cube, but if you support token and aggro this card will be good enough for smaller cubes too. It will never be a staple or a card you need to have though.
This is a cool card. I like tribal decks, but they never seemed supportable in cube. This guy could make that possible, or at least flexible enough to justify a slot. I'm a fan of using one or two slots to support fringe strategies even if they don't happen often. It adds variety.
With that said, the 3 CMC section for artifacts is pretty tight. Most cubes run all 5 swords, tangle wire, crucible, wargear and relic. That's 9 right there (and that doesn't include oblivion stone or mimic vat). How much room do people have for this guy? It would have to be at least 450 cards I would think and you'd probably have to cut at least one of the popular options.
For those folks that play a handful of small tribal subthemes throughout the cube, is this a card you feel could contribute? Being a creature itself, it seems like a better tribal support card than similar non-creature cards with similar effects. This seems like a step behind Metallic Mimic, but a card that would certainly be playable in most tribal decks, no?
@wtwlf123 So I cut him about a year ago.
His pump is nice, but as a 2/2, he's too fragile, and at 3 mana. Most of the tribes already have some sort of anthem effect, and those cards with the anthem effect have more versatility typically, example being an enchantment.
I ended up replacing him with the Sword of Sinew, because I preferred that pump, and harder to remove, personally.
