This little lady came up in the Retconned Creature Types thread (as it's a Zombie Wizard nowadays), and I realised that while she's in my cube and not leaving anytime soon, I don't see her listed often in other cubes. Any reason? Cause man... is she the bombdiggity in slower formats...
(... and yeah, how in heck did this not have its own SCD already... *shakes head at forum*...)

Because other reanimation spells are faster, cheaper, and harder for the opponent to remove. I tried to make this work in my classic cube, and it wasn't even any good there. Like, even Doomed Necromancer can bring a creature back for less mana and not gift your giant monster a weakness to Lightning Bolt...

Always loved the art though.
So I guess Coffin Queen wins in Multiplayer over Doomed Necromancer given it can aim at any creature in any graveyard?
I've found it handy in the past to target a fellow reanimator player across the table, fish each creature out of their yard one-by-one, and then choose to untap the Queen each time in my upkeep (exiling their creature, and allowing you to retrieve the next one). But yes, very dependent on the amount of removal flying around.
I recall a very fun game out of my cube once upon a time where I managed to fetch a Trike out of someone else's yard every turn (the creature doesn't get exiled if it dies itself... only if it's Coffin Queen dying or untapping). Pretty sure I was fetching Trike at my last opponent's EOT, attacking with it in my turn, throwing two of the three damage around, and then using the last one to kill itself so we could rinse and repeat. Fun times.
And yeah, the art is indeed killer. I'd love to see it in foil and the new borders some day.
Unfortunately there are a slew of effects that can deal with Coffin Queen, even in unpowered cubes. Red has a plethora of burn spells that can do at least one damage to her, there are hordes of creature removal (Contagion comes to mind), and on top of that there are a number of cubable cards that can untap Coffin Queen against the controller's will. Unfortunately I think this precludes her inclusion in the cube as she can serve no other purpose. In some ways, she has the same issues that Preacher does.
In both of their cases the art is excellent and they're very flavorful. Sad that they don't make the cut!
