so I'm gonna try and make this short and get to the point so I can hopefully get some feedback that can help as I'm lost and starting to feel frustrated
so basically, I graduated University with my Honours BA in Criminology and Justice in April of 2013 but about 2 and a half years later, I'm still having a hard time finding a job within my field. I get that any arts degree will probably have a somewhat hard time finding a job in the market today, but part of me still thinks that I could be doing wrong
I guess I should go a bit deeper though, but I'll still try and keep it brief
right after university, I took a job at the local walmart, which I had previosuly worked at during school, so at least they knew me and they seemed to like me, so at least I had a job until I could find something better. During 2013, I applied to a fair bit of jobs, until I got asked to come in and do my military aptitude test, which I'll get into more detail about later.
so I decided I'd see where that went. While that took a while, I kinda hoped that would work out for me (which sorta came back to bite me in the ass), so looking back I probably could have worked harder looking for a new job. Basically, in September of 2014, I got an email from the military saying I wasn't qualified for any of the occupations I applied to (officer occupations as I had completed university), so when I called a recruiter, it was hard to get a straight answer, as it went from not doing well enough on part of the aptitude test to not scoring as well on a personality assessment, with maybe a few other reasons that i got told. So then I got told that I could either wait til 3 years after initially taking the aptitude test (so November something of 2016, as I took the test in 2013) or apply to Non commissioned member positions (go in as a private, which anyone with their grade 10 can apply to) at first my thought was just close my file, then a few months later I decided to keep my file open in case I couldn't find much else, which ended up in me being offered an interview, which i ended up going in for begrudgingly in February of 2015. I sat on the verge of taking it, but i eventually decided that I didn't wish to be in a 5 year contract I wasn't sure if I'd be totally happy with and instead see where writing the test again in 2016 would take me.
around the same time, I had an interview to be a park ranger out in Alberta, which I thought went well, but didn't turn into anything. I mean it was an interview that I feel I handled well, so I guess there's good in some bad situations. Then I kept applying to jobs I was interested in, to no response
so I guess it's time to get to where I'm at now, I got out of walmart in July of 2015, because my buddy said it would be easy to get on at a local call centre, which he seemed to enjoy at the time. I got on a contract I didn't really enjoy or excel at, then the manager in charge of the whole contract, the call centre main location out of hamilton (several hours from where I'm at in Trenton) decided he wanted to fire a group of people, including me. Not sure what happened to the other people in the long run but my buddy who got me the job ended up talking Human resources to just put me on a different contract, which isn't going great but is a lot better than my previous contract and I get along great with the management on that contract.
I mean I guess full time is good, even if it is just a call centre. I've still been applying to any job in my field that i can find, but not hearing back is really starting to get me down. Maybe I just needed to vent my frustrations better but I'd like some advice on finding a job that could actually use my skills or to see if anyone can give me advice with anything they can see from my post that I can't see
So, I guess the real question here is what do you want to do and would you settle for doing? What did you imagine yourself doing when you enrolled in the degree program?
Because of the nature of the field you're in, I highly recommend you start volunteering at a volunteer fire department. The training you'll get is good on your resume for the kinds of jobs (military, park ranger) you've been looking at.
I'd like some kind of park ranger/park warden job or some level of Corrections (federal or provincial), I've applied to Correctional Service of Canada multiple times and been turned down once last year, but I've kept applying.
I mean I apply to so many government jobs but never hear back, so maybe I need other kinds of experience first
one of my friends was telling me that seeing that I have no relevant experience in my field 2 and a half years in my field can make employers think that I just partied in school and didn't actually learn much, not sure what exactly he means by that but I dunno

Well, you're qualified enough to get interviews, but you're probably losing out to people who already have experience.
If you want those kinds of jobs, you should start a little smaller. Look into private security companies (not mercenary type, rent-a-cop types). Hell, you may even find you like it.
sorry for the double post but I just thought I'd say that I feel good about the corrections testing so hopefully this turns into me going farther in the selection process.
Yeah, my friend got his Criminology and went from there to working as a prison guard, and then later a security guard. If your town, province/state, or country has some kind of government branch for this (here in British Columbia it's called WorkBC) you should visit there, you'd be really surprised what kind of stuff they can set up for you.
