Think i caught something. Woke up with a sore throat a few days ago which got worse 2 days ago and i battled it out with hot tea and honey, extra sleep, ibuprofen and cough drops. Yesterday it went away and about an hour later i started hacking a tiny bit. 6 hours later by midnight last night my chest and lungs felt raw and painful when i breathed in deep and was hacking dry painfully alot
Went and got some delsym. Woke up and atarted hacking up sputum this morning. Ik ik its gross. Ill spare the details. Since midnight last night throat was itchy at times and felt fatigued and haf the chills with a minor fever. Took some more delsym today and ibuprofen. Also drank 2 cups of peppermint tea with honey. Not coughing as much anymore but chest is still raw some. Cant sleep for ***** though. Mainly just a stuffed up nose now. Ughhhh
It sounds like you already tried every possible home remedy out there. Your chest hurting is not a usual symptom of a cold, you should go see your primary care doctor. At the very least they can prescribe something stronger for the cough to keep you from continuing to get inflammation from all the coughing.
You need to see a doctor ASAP and get on antibiotics, but what I do for respiratory problems is get the hottest hot sauce and a bag of chips and just eat it constantly. It's an old Mexican remedy and some Mexican families have a special salsa for children's respiratory problems. Capsaicin acts as a bronchodilator and it will clear you out and cough up the mucus.
It did miracles for my asthma back when I visited a town that was basically toxic, but because bronchitis is a viral or bacterial problem I'm not sure how ghost pepper or habanero sauce will help cure anything. It will just open up your lungs.
You need to see a doctor ASAP and get on antibiotics
This line of thinking is why we have "super" bacteria. Sure getting on anti-biotics will probably make him feel better faster but it may not be necessary.

There's also antibiotics in our food and doctors literally prescribe the worst antibiotics for the most minor infections. I was prescribed oral and ear drop Cipro for a 6 month long ear infection. Cipro is used to treat anthrax! I didn't need Cipro, I needed allergy shots!
I'm coming from an asthmatic point of view where bronchitis can literally kill me or incapacitate me for a while. If I begin to suspect that I may have bronchitis I get to the doctor as soon as I can.
To the OP: the symptoms sound like Pneumonia. Unless you've been getting better in the last 2 days, you do need Antibiotics. If you have multiple other health problems or are really debilitated (ie worsening chest tightness / red sputum), then you need to go to the ED. If you're relatively healthy overall, please schedule an appt with your primary care doc asap so that he/she can give you Antibiotics - these can be Azithromycin / Doxycycline / Levofloxacin.
To the OP above, Cipro is definitely not the best choice for an ear infection. It covers a good number of bacteria, but it's commonly used for UTI / Pyelo. Maybe it was Levofloxacin? (Levo is in the same class but is better for Strep pneumo (most common cause of ear infections) Anyway, we usually give Amoxicillin first. If you're allergic, we switch to Azithromycin. If Azithromycin fails, we give Cefuroxime / Levofloxacin.
Well. I broke my fever a few days back. I still have minor sinus pressure. And some of that drainage winds up in my lungs which for the most part I cough up a fair amount each day. My wife told me I won't get pneumonia since I broke my fever. Generally I feel much much better. Very little fatigue now. The sputum is white and sometimes there's a tinge of yellow. Chest doesn't hurt when I breathe anymore. So
Do u think I am in the clear? Just wait for the sinus infection to cure itself or do u think I need to get some antibiotic for it? Can the sinus infection if there is 1 regress back to bronchitis?

Hi. Without examining you, it's hard to provide an opinion that I would be absolutely confident about. Just part of the trade - you know? Getting your PCP to take a look at you would still be the ideal way to go.
Even if you have a medical degree, please be very careful about the advice you give in RLA. People should always be referred to their Primary Care Physician, RLA is not the place to come see if you're 'okay' after being sick.

Ok sorry for the rant. Now off to FNM.

You're absolutely right. I apologize.
