Ok guys, I met this "girl" named Katie playing SMITE. The moment I started playing with her (ussername BCspite) I pretty much knew she was a gamer girl for her way of chatting. She added me to the friendlist because we had a very good and fun game together and then we became pretty close buddies to the point we wouldn't play without the other hanging arround.
I'm a 22 year old college student, and according to "her", she's 14. She seemed to have some kind of cute crush on me and she asked me if I had a tumblr so I could follow her, however I didn't and we kept on tabs on each other via SMITE. She is a "girl with an attitude", making acid jokes, trolling people and being overall quirky at times, but keeping the vibe of a fresh girl.
However...
We started playing LoL after that, we've even bought each other gifts from time to time, but like, tho I really like having a cool friend like her, and all that went on with her (she asked me for school advice, homework help, etc) seems way TOO authentic (nothing feels forced or over acted, really, just... plain normal), lately some weird things have happened.
It all started when she met this korean guy while she played. She's nuts about koreans, so she started talking to him and then she just seemed weird... Like, one thing that I notice that gives me an "alert" is the fact she owns a Tumblr but not a Facebook. Then, she asked me to design a Theme for her tumblr a month ago but then she changed her mind; I made a Tumblr just for fun, today she asks me to help her think of an URL for her new Tumblr and when I asked her "what's it about" she said "I won't tell you". She started joking and trolling about it until she finally confessed she'd rather not have me on it, since according to her it's not about good stuff, and she doesn't wants people whom she cares about being dissapointed or something...
She was just then talking me about this weird guy she met online but well.. he's weird, like this sort of otaku bisexual army comedian guy, and he made a tumblr just so she could see a selfie of him. She was pretty much asking me advice with him, and she was repeating over and over how cute/hot he was, she wanted my opinion, etc. Well she was sad because this guy suddenly today erases his selfie from the Tumblr and it was like, his only post... Which I found weird/scary.
Also I asked her where she met this guy and she just said "just a website", and she didn't give any more details.
The thing is tho I have a lot of fun spending time with "her" and playing, IDK what should I do, what to feel or how to react to this person, since it was all normal until this happened, and by normal I mean extremely belivable and normal. It's just weird :/
When I was yougner I met someone like her, who ended up being my girlfriend. She didn't had a facebook, she pretty much fitted the descriprion of my ideal girl, and she got "angry" every time I asked her for pictures, and kept a lot of things hidden from me... well iut turned out she didn't lie about who she was (it was actually a girl), we webcammed, dated, and all that. I wanna belive my friend is a real friend but... this is odd.
What do you mean by trust? Based on the fact that this person asks for help with homework and has not tried to lure you into something that would get you thrown in jail she probably really is a 14 year old kid not a creepy old guy.
There is a reasonable chance that she does have a facebook but does not want her real life friends and family to know that she is internet friends with a bunch of older guys.
If all you are doing is helping her with homework, playing games and being friendly... does it really matter if she is exactly who she says she is?
Sorry, you're 8 years old than her and in my mind, her puberty is in question. This all seems weird and creepy from all angles. Not trying to flame, but dude...maybe look for someone your own age. Ew, this is icky.

Errr I'm currently interested in an exchange student of my age... this is only a friend I appreciate, lol, I'd just feel bad if this person was some sort of catfish or perv.

Unless she has asked for something pervy or to try to date you or something... I highly doubt it's a catfish/perv situation. A 40 year old pervy dude is not going to pretend to need homework help and then not try something. Worst case scenario it's a lonely 14 year old boy that thought pretending to be a girl would help him make friends... Not really a huge problem when all you are doing is playing games.
I don't get who you feel bad for or why you would feel bad...the way I read this was you 'feel bad' because you want it to really be a she, regardless of age. The fact you said anything about having met a girl and developed a relationship with her this way before also points towards that. If it is just a friend, why do you care if it is a pervy old guy, a dude, catfish, or anything else? You seem a little bitter about the guy she was talking to, too.
Things don't add up and I get a weird feeling from this. Sorry, maybe I don't fully understand the situation, but something inside is telling me that you just aren't acknowledging the romantic feelings you have for this person...but you should and you should probably check your emotions because the person is way under age.
Why do we hang out with 14 year old girls that play Friday Night Magic? Why play a game with one over Magic Online? Why accept having a teenage girl in your WoW Raiding Party?
Is conversing with people of different ages but similar interests taboo?
To Aldath: You guys met up in the first place due to a mutual enjoyment of an online game. By getting too emotionally/intellectually invested in this person's outside-of-the-game life, you're getting too invested in teenage drama. The personal Tumbler is probably a place where she posts depressing teenage angst. She's going to do a lot of things concerning guys that you're not going to understand because you shouldn't even be involved with who she's dating. Some of them are going to be weird, some of them won't. She's probably going to go through an otaku or seven because of similar interests in Asian culture. None of that should be your concern. She's a gaming friend. Trying to act like it's anything more than that and then backpedaling like you don't want it to be anything more than that is just going to make you look like a creeper.
There is a reasonable chance that she does have a facebook but does not want her real life friends and family to know that she is internet friends with a bunch of older guys.
A LOT (maybe even the majority) of highschoolers don't use Facebook anymore and that's older teens. The impression the younger generation thinks of it is a clunky, uncool website for older (read: non-teen) folk. Everything is about mobile, nowadays, and thinking back to Facebook, putting so much work into a profile with a gazillion gimmicky features does feel kind of silly. Since she's 14, I wouldn't think much of it.
I'm a 22 year old college student, and according to "her", she's 14.
Dude, you're 22. Why are you hanging out online with a 14-year-old?
I agree with this. To expand on this statement:
In terms of 'trust', you should never invest money into a person you've never actually met. And I wouldn't recommend trying to actually meet this person either. If she really is 14, you probably shouldn't be so invested in this friendship. The answer is no, you should not trust this person. It's cool and all to have online friends, but when things cross over into real life the lines are really, really messy. I've had xbox live friends I played games with almost daily that I would never, ever want to meet in person, because they're not actual, real-life friends. You need to make sure you're clear on the distinction between real-life friends and internet friends, and where the boundaries are.
And, just to put this in perspective, you're an adult man who is online friends with a young girl. There aren't very many scenarios where further interaction doesn't come across as creepy. Let her personal life be her business, and focus on your gaming friendship rather than trying to get involved. 'She' could just be some bored guy having fun messing with, or she could be genuine, but either way it's better to leave it at the games.

Do you seriously see the relationship and the amount of interest Aldath has in the girl and think "Oh this is just two people with similar interests conversing"?
Aldath-
Based on what you wrote, there's nothing to suspect that she's not what she claims to be. In any case, so long as she doesn't demand any personal information out of you, there's no reason to suspect anything weird imo anyhow.
As for her behavior and actions that you find weird- I don't see anything weird about it. She's a 14 year old teenager. Who is interested in playing video games with a 22 year old college student. The very fact that you didn't find this weird but found the other things weird means that you're looking at this through tinted glasses and anything that breaks your expectation of her bothers you.
But believe me, a 22 year old college student talking intimate things with a 14 year old is weird. Far more weird than anything you told us of her thus far.
I agree with Jay13x. You need to learn to separate social connections. This girl obviously knows this. It is very unlikely that a 14 year old doesn't have Facebook or otherwise isn't involved with social media.
I don't know much about tumblr, but it looks like you can control the information you place there. Therefore no actual personal information can go on there. The girl is sensible. Giving you her Facebook account would be pure idiocy, and she knows this.
I recommend you be sensible as well, and learn how to separate real-life relationships from online ones. You should rarely, if ever, allow people into your real-life world.
As for the recent post-

It's her Tumblr.
When I met her she told me she was a mobile blogger and told me she owned a Tumblr, she told me about some posts she made on it.
When I asked her to see her Tumblr later, she didn't wanted to tell me, so she said "it's a Pokemon, bug type, and has an i on the end".
She loves Lana del Rey, Homura from Madoka Magica, Nicky Minaj, and COINCIDENTIALLY the posts she told me she made on it are on THAT Tumblr.
I confrotned her with this today and tried to change covnersation, she even said this Tumblr was of a fan of hers and I told her "well it has the posts you told me you made", to which she just replied "Ok, Yeah".
And when I told her I just wanted to know if she was this Katie person for real or not she just said "Ok", and changed conversation again.
So... The thing is, IDC where, but I don't like to be deceived by "friends".
If you've made serious relationship texts or anything akin to sexual messaging with this "girl", you better hope it's a catfish or perv, because if its actually a 14 year old girl or federale, you're going to eventually have to have a seat over there.

What you need to do is quickly reverse the situation. Message the Tumblr owner and ask if she is your mystery texter, then inform her that if she's not, she needs to inform the federales.
Please be REALLY careful about what you say to her online, even jokingly.
Well I now REALLY think this person is a 14 year old homosexual boy who found a chance to get close to a guy via this "Katie" Persona. I told him/her that it wouldn't change our friendship, and this person didn't accept if the was a he or a she but sincerely it makes me relieved to know things haven't changed between us and we're cool, I just hope he/she does't calls me "bae" again n_nU
I say he might be a gay because of the Tumblr I left the other day Last time we played LoL he/she told me the internet was horribly slow and he/she had to skype with some friends that day, coincidentialy this "David" complains about not being able to skype with his friends that SAME day because of his horrible internet, and his friends say "It was your fault David your internet was messing up".
I saw a post way back then, when this David said a girl called "Karen" was referred to as "Elsa" on Tumblr, so it could also be this Katie person is real and as she's told me, she's "quirky", so she just likes being called David on internet, since they also asked her about this people she calls "chillbro" and "cooldude" O_e
So yeah, I suspect it's just a gay kid trying to get a male friend, or just... a very strange girl.
Or she's transgender. In either case, it really doesn't matter because you should confine your friendship to the appropriate context, which is the game you're playing.
Look, there is a sliding scale to friendship: There are friendly acquaintances, there are friends, there are best friends, there are friends who help you move and friends who will delete all your porn before your wife finds it when you die. An 'Internet Friend' is in an odd place in that hierarchy, because you'll often share things like you're best friends, except they're less reliable than friendly acquaintances. You should not treat online friends the same way you treat real-life friends - the level of anonymity and freedom from consequence the internet brings just encourages behavior someone you know in real life would never do unless they were mentally disturbed.
The first thing that came to my mind, too, was that she was transsexual.
That aside, a lot of people are saying it's creepy that you're friends with her, but as long as it's just friends (and online only, at that) I don't see why it'd be weird. I was friends with lots of guys I met on sites like this when I was that age, and there was nothing weird about it (mostly). Just friends with a common interest. Aren't games supposed to bring different kinds of people together?
I think it's quite obvious that OP has developed some romantic feelings for the girl, if not, the ridiculous jealousy of the Korean guy makes not sense whatsover. And given the age difference, this is beyond creepy.
I'm a 22 year old college student, and according to "her", she's 14.
Dude, you're 22. Why are you hanging out online with a 14-year-old?
Pretty much this. Spend time with people your age. So should this other person. It's not your problem whether they can or cannot make other friends. It's just plain weird. Back off, they'll get over it. Unless you're too emotionally invested in this "young girl." Then you have some other problems to work out....

This sounds really awkward. Like, you say you're friends, but it almost sounds like there's some jealousy there. Your relationship with this girl just seems like its a little more than it should be.

I think you like having friends who look up to you. I think that the fact that its a female probably gives you an ego boost. I don't think your a perv. I'm almost certain that this girl does this to many people as she, like most 14 y/o gamers, is insecure and likes flirty attention from older men. I think her not giving you information about her life is her way of distancing her real life were, lets face it, she is a kid from her online life were she may be a more popular person. Get an OkCupid dude.
