Need assistance on where to look and would like to here experiences (good and bad) on vehicles.
From 2006-2011, I bought a 2003 2door hatchback ford focus manual with ok mileage. First car - and learned how to drive stick on it. Ball-Joint fell apart/jammed at 110k miles and would need a new transmission.
Got 2k for trade in value and bought a new 2011 Hyundai Accent 2d Hatchback. Enjoyed the vehicles, no complains, size was perfect, power was suitable, etc. However, last Friday, rolled it 1 & 1/4 times which totaled it. The safety features (great cage and side impact airbags) are what saved me --- I came out with literally no scratches or bruises; just got my head rung.
I have rental car on my insurance policy, so after I settled with them, I will have 7 days left with free rental.
Per the bodyshop and NADA.com, I will receive $9kish + 3% + taxes/title/fees and I owe $6,300 on the vehicles, I will roughly have 4k left for a down payment on next vehicle.
I would like to look for a 4door (instead of 2door) hatchback manual vehicle. I was looking at the Elantra GT (normal elantra is sedan style). I am not fond of the new Fords. Honda (civic) seems alright - friend has a 2011 with basic features and it is nice.
TLDR
With about a week left, need advice on next vehicle please. Thank you.
In terms of gas mileage, resale value, and overall length of car life, Id go Honda Civic/Accord or Toyota Corolla/Camry. Ive purchased 2 brand new Corolla Sports in the last 5 years. Both loaded ( spoiler, alloy wheels, sun roof, ground effects). Sticker price on both was 22k and talked em down a combined $9000 off the purchase price. You could probably get a basic model for around 14-15k
Wife's friend has it. Quite sporty - handles well. When I worked at Enterprise Rent-A-Car, never had complaints. Mazda 5 was the larger version, but too big for me.

When I worked at Enterprise, my car of choice to take from the office for trips was the new Honda Civic. The features really never pleased me and put me off in some instances. I was turned off by the [stock] Corollas --- but perhaps that was due to upholstry and poor conditions I have seen the cars in. (I will look into Accord/Camry, but price keeps me away plus it seems too big for me).

Im a practical function > bells n whistles guy for the most part. All i can say is test drive each one and go from there
Camry/Corolla is a great pick always, but if you need a hatchback, go for a Honda Fit, and if you need to know where to get it, I recommend CarMax - even though they'll inflate the hell out of the price.
