Got a package the other day delivered by UPS/Fedex and the person no longer lives here (apartment). I do not know this person, but came across their Linkedin profile and it appears they lived in the city for a brief time and now live in another state (based on work history).
What should I do with the package. If it was delivered the USPS, I would just take it to the post office. But since its a private company that delivered it, I don't know if they care to return the item to the sender, or track down the new address of the intended recipient. My options are see if UPS will take it back, track down the person it was meant for and see if they want it, open it and claim its hidden contents, toss it in the trash.
Personally I would just open it and keep whatever it is. If it's useless, there's always eBay or Craigslist....though I don't really have a strict moral code that I follow.

This is only partially true: The item is still the legal property of the person who purchased the package. UPS may decide to do nothing (as the address problem is the fault of the purchaser), but that doesn't make the package the OP's.
This happened to me once with FedEx. I called them and told them of the mistake, they sent out a truck to pick it up that day. I just left it on my front step for them.
This happened to me with UPS a couple weeks ago. The truck driver got the right address number, in the right city, on the wrong street. I tried to get them to pick up the package for three days and they kept saying that they would send someone out, but they never did. I ended up delivering the package myself.
I was at home when they delivered the package. No idea why they didn't at least /try/ to get me to sign for it. I was right there watching TV with all the lights on and everything. Guy just walked up, threw it on the porch and ran off before I could get his attention and tell him he got the wrong house.
I had no luck with getting it back to the owner. So I opened it the other day and found out its a new iPhone to replace a broken one. Luckily there's a return address label in the box that I am going to use to return it.
