Its a tippmann pro lite, and about 15 -18 years old (I think). I've had it since undergrad, I never use it anymore and its not in very good shape. So, its only worth like 5 bucks.
I want it out of the house so my kids don't find it and want to play with it (oldest is 2).
Suggestions for how to get rid of it that don't involve leaving it at the curb where someone could get it and cause problems?
Here, without a licence or unless in specific situations, it's illegal to own a paintball gun.
I don't think you should attempt to take it apart yourself, in case it - specifically that canister of pressurised gas - causes any undesired harm or death.
You may want to check relevant local laws, but I'd imagine that you could ask your local coppers or authorised, licensed firearms dealers to deal with your item. It may be entirely possible to simply safely remove the gas canister, which, when completely used up, can probably be recycle, and to turn in the rest of the gun.

oh, its been disassembled (mostly) for a while and the c02 canister has been empty for over 5 years. We called the local police office and they will take them in and dispose of them free of charge, so thats taken care of
Sell to another paintball player or a paintball shop.
I don't know about his particular gun, but they can run a couple hundred bucks
It's a tipman prolite - the precursor to the custom 98, and is about 15 or so years old. It's worth all of about $5 tops. As for why I don't leave it at the curb... I don't feel comfortable leaving something that could realistically be used to harm someone just sitting at the curb waiting for trash pickup. It's not worth my time to try and find somewhere that will *buy* it for the prices it would fetch. I just want it somewhere where it won't hurt someone.

If it's not worth anything, smash it with a hammer a couple times to break it beyond repair and toss it in the trash.
redthirst is redthirst, fifth Horseman of the Apocalypse. He was the leader of the Fires of Salvation, the only clan I'm aware of to get modded off the forums so hard they made their own forums.
Degenerate? Sure. Loudmouth? You bet. Law abiding? No ****ing way.
Prolites are solid - you can get an easy $15-ish bucks for one in working condition.
That's not a lot, but it puts a few bucks in your pocket while bringing someone else enjoyment. I'd rate that higher than junking it.
Agreed. Actually, some people actively seek out older prolites for their collection. Check out the B/S/T section of PbNation.com, or go over to Mcarterbrown.com and look in their B/S/T section. The maturity level is higher at Mcarterbrown. I would go there first. Also, you could always try craigslist.

I don't think my 6 month old has the fine motor skills, strength, or finger length to operate the trigger yet.
That's awesome!
