So yeah... I just got back from a month touring with a drum and bugle corps. For those (all of you) who don't know what that is, basically I spent a month traveling around rehearsing and performing shows. And sleeping in gyms with 50+ other people.
And during this, I found out I sleeptalk. A lot. As in, pretty much every night. And loud enough to wake people up. While entertaining to hear what conversations people had with me, having a complete stranger's first impression of me being me waking them up in the middle of the night is pretty embarrassing. Not to mention the whole "people get pissed when i wake them up from the 4 hours of sleep we actually get" thing.
Have any of you had sleeptalking problems and successfully gotten rid of them? I think it might be some kind of family thing, as my sister is also at a camp right now and she said she has had some of the same experiences.
My wife sleeptalks and I have done some (ie very little) research to see if there is a way to stop it and found nothing other than suggestions to go to therapy and maybe a folk remedy or two.
I don't know how severe your case is but my wife will have a full if somewhat disconnected conversation with you and have no knowledge of it in the morning. That aside most of hers is just a few random words or phrases here and there unless she has outside influence, such as me directing the conversation so it really does not bother me
I sleep talk when I am suuuper tired and kind of just crash in bed. My fiance has recalled some funny stories about how I told her we couldn't go swimming the next day because we didn't have any harpoons. Pretty funny stuff. I don't usually consider it a problem, and it makes her laugh, so I never really thought much of it.
I know this may be odd, but I sleeptalk when I am in places I don't normally sleep. If I am in a Hotel, I sleeptalk. I don't know why, It's just the way I am.
I also sleeptalk and sleepwalk when I am sick. One time I got out of bed and walked down the hall and I bumped into my dad who was getting a glass of water. I told him to move out of the way, and that I was going to lose the race. He then gave me more sleep inducing cough medicine and lead me to my bed.
Another time I was sleepwalking and I woke up my grandmother. She asked me what I was doing, to which I replied "I am looking for the half-thing." she said "What?", I said "You know, the half-thing". And opened the fridge and closed it. After that I just grunted because I couldn't find the "half-thing" so I went back to sleep.

I don't sleep talk but I do sleep have sleep movements. It was really embarassing when I was asleep next to my friend and cuddled against her rather inappropriately when I was asleep. I think it's because I've been sleeping in the same bed with my fiance for five years and he doesn't mind when I sleep cuddle. Though, it means now that I can't ever share a room with anyone who I'm not comfortable accidentally groping! ><; So I'm getting a single bed from now on.
I actually talk a lot about Magic when I am first waking up, often making literally no sense and being very defensive and angry while my girlfriend laughs (worst thing possible - do not laugh at a sleeptalker) and her laughter makes me even angrier until I am just fuming because she doesn't understand "the card." (I never say the names).
The most common cause of sleep talking is emotional stress. We (and by we, I mean the people I work for) treat many patients that talk in their sleep.
Unless your sleep talking involves violent outbursts or random screaming sessions, I wouldn't worry about it, and it's generally believed to be harmless.
If you want to reduce it, your best bet would be to stop sleeping only 4 hours per night and get on a normal sleep schedule. That usually helps to decrease the amount of talking to a minimum.

Humans constantly reach for greatness. Whether it be by exploring space, or exploring the oceans depths. Ultimately, that is the folly of our nature; for that reason we will never understand the true meaning of life. We're limited by our desire to achieve the things we claim to be grand, ignoring the simpler things that were and are already grand. "What's your name?"
"The names Roy, but in-game, you can call me PERNILIOUS! MASTER OF THE DUNGEON!"
