Ok, I have been suffering from this long enough. For about the past month, I have been dealing with the symptoms of mono, and I just keep getting worse. I just back from the doctor, and they said to just drink fluids and get some sleep. I was wondering if anyone on here has suffered from this disease, and if they have any tips to help me out.
With mono, the only tactics are treating the individual symptoms. Tylenol for the fever, rest for the fatigue, fluids to keep your body hydrated. That's about it. Listen to your doctor, suck it up, wait it out.
And be careful about who you suck face with in the future.
Oh, I got it in the lamest way possible. I ended up drinking after my friend, who is apparently immune to its effects.
The fatigue is horrible. When I sleep, my body doesn't replenish my energy. It's like I've gone a month with no sleep.
Thanks for the information, though.
I had mono about two years ago that was the worst. My throat hurt so bad. All I could eat/drink was eithe something really hot like soup or really cold like ice cream or something to that effect. I don't even know where the hell I got it from.
Mono really, really sucks. You can feel tired for weeks or months after you get it. And yeah, sleeping just doesn't make you feel rested. It is good to have video games or books or DVDs when you have it, but I remember times where I was too tired to even play a game. When I had it, the doctor told me to be careful when I did anything physical due to my spleen being enlarged. If your spleen ruptures, you can die. Try to stay as rested and well-nurished as possible so you don't have a relapse.
The good news is that I don't think you can ever catch it again.
Yeah Mono does that to you. I remember when I had it. You feel tired, bored and empty. But then I got the new two-cd Pet Sounds re-release. Sure, one side is Mono, but the other side, can you believe it, is Stereo. Stereo felt so much better than Mono. I no longer suffer because I only have the Mono copy of Sloop John B, and instead of felling tired and empty, I feel great, healthy and happy. The lesson here? Don't buy crappy old cd's. They make you suffer, new rereleases is were it is. Thank me? No thank Capitol records for providing us all with such a brilliant product.
Try to get some light walking in every day. Something minimally active so you can keep your immune system in balance. I know how hard it can be. If you feel fatigued now, it can be a real challenge the second day just to get out of bed. But you have to keep moving, even at a slow pace.
Light exercise helps reset your sleep clock and improve your mood, too. It will balance your appetite and help keep your bowels moving in the right direction. Just know that your body is in helter-skelter mode right now and NOT to push yourself. (If you notice your endurance improving, by all means go with that flow, but do not attempt to return to your normal level of physical activity after only a few days or a week.)
Stay away from caffeine. It will make you sorry you ever took it, when you have mono. Sometimes your tired, and you need a lift. Sometimes your tired, and you need to lay off. This is one of those latter times.
I got it in kindergarten.
I have no idea how, because I don't really remember that time very well, but apparently I've been a pimp since before elementary school.
Tips? Um, I don't really know. I've got a badass immune system (it's like the Clint Eastwood of disease fighting - do y'feel lucky, flu?), so I kicked it in about a week or so.
My advice would be to cut one or two things from your current weekly schedule, free up some time to do nothing.
For example, I've passed on about three weeks' worth of FNM'ing because school's started back up. Once I'm back into a reliable schedule, I'll start gaming again. Right now, though, I'm using that time for studying and homework, as well as tinkering around with my boss's website (as opposed to doing nothing, which is more suited to recuperating from mono).
Rest, drink fluids, and gargle with salt water. Avoid caffeine and sugars. Eat plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables. Take a Vitamin C supplement and Echinacea (you can get capsules or a tincture at your local grocery or health foods store) to help strengthen your immune system.
What are some of the ways people can get this, other then kissing, and drinking? My friend had this in high school and says he felt like this when he used a dirty bathroom in Virginia. I think he got it somehow from his then gf's little sister, who got it.

Yeah, I had it over Christmas this year. It blew hardcore. All I did was stay at home and sleep. I kicked it within 2 weeks. Funny part is, I dont know how i got it. Everyone i made out with never had it, and i dont drink other people's things.....weird
My friend however, just got over having Mono AND Strep throat. Don't ask me how, but he did. He kicked that in a week. (Doubt it....)
I had it almost 3 years ago. The docotor screwed up and jsut thought it was a sore throat and I ended up taking an ambulance to the hospital and staying there for a week and a half. Really sapped the energy right out too.
There's a lot of great tips here on how to best deal with it. One thing I'd add too, that I didn't see on there, is that it's probably not a good idea to do anything physically demanding for a bit, because your spleen will be particularly vunerable for a while.
If someone claims that they are an unlynchable, unkillable, octa-voter, with 4 daykills and 6 doc-protects, then technically lynching that person solely based on his claim would be gaming the mod, but I would be just fine doing that.
So I was completely stumped by this thread until a helpful wikipedia search helped me realise that this 'mono' thing is what is referred to by the rest of the English speaking world as glandular fever.

Ok, this just made me feel a ton better.

A truly great petition
can't imagine it would be too contagious, otherwise if one person in school had it, everyone would soon be sick.

Mine left a while ago. About a week or two after the last post in this thread.
