Hey, wow, I'm really surprised we don't have a thread for this already. Flash has wormed its way into my heart (I'm not a big DC Fan, but I went and read a lot of the recent comics for Flash and I have to say Captain Cold is one of my new favorite villains/anti-heroes).
Any thoughts on the show? The recent mid-season finale was probably the strongest I've seen so far this season. One big revelation instead of just a few, but it definite served to kick the plot forwad.
So Dr. Wells is the Reverse Flash. I'm really not sure what to think of that, except... what? I'm curious what his end game with Barry is.
The show kept us guessing for a while, with all the plot hints pointing towards Wells but characterization hints (and actual name) pointing towards Eddie Thawne. Thawne still has more of a part to play in this, I'm positive. Maybe Wells' real name is Thawne and Eddie is his ancestor.
Personally, I was betting on the dark horse theory that Wells was

Booster Gold.
Haha, Booster Gold was a bit of a stretch for Wells, he is way too dour. There were some other more obscure characters that might have worked.
But yeah, it seemed that Wells had the time travel thing down, to be in two places at once. Unless you think he might have gone so fast he could make it appear he was in two places at once.
You could be right that Eddie is his ancestor, it might be why he didn't kill Eddie. Or Eddie is going to be the second Reverse Flash on the show.
As to the end game, he talks a lot about destiny. It seems the Reverse Flash persona he puts on isn't the 'real' him, so to speak, and that he's trying to make Barry better... but for what? And why?
I've caught up on the New 52 Flash, and I really do like the Rogues. Captain Cold in Forever Evil was great, mostly because he was the only one there who wasn't evil and his reactions to his new 'teammates' were priceless.
But also because:
His moment of awesome with Johnny Quick was just fantastic. Voice command gun to activate, it freezes Quick's leg and kicks it off.
since the forshadowing was crazy heavy. Especially since Cisco is wrong and its, obviously time travel and not another speedster.
Either way, can't get enough. Even if this version of Barry Allen is basically Peter Parker: Lab Tech
Regarding the rogues, they've been the best antagonists in comics for quite some time. Everyone points at Batman, but thats mostly just because people love the Joker. The Flash's rogues have a much higher average than Batman's and I'd put Cold up against Joker as the better villain any day of the week. He is just this... ruthless, efficient, thug that is greedy, but smart and doesn't get attached. He is the classic, low brow film thug that I love in British movies that involve Jason Statham, but with a freeze ray and a code of conduct.
Plus the actor they got for him in Flash is ******* fantastic.
No way. Batman villains are still better. The Joker alone would be enough to push the average past any other lineup, but it's not just him - it's Two-Face, Catwoman, Mr. Freeze, Ivy, Riddler, Bane, Ra's al-Ghul, even newcomers like the Court of Owls. Nothing against Cold and the Rogues, but they don't have the richness and diversity of the Arkham gang.

I would say Cold wins in that he's a very interesting nemesis for the Flash, compared to say the Joker or Lex Luthor (or Dr. Doom or whomever). The dynamic is very different from think most superhero villains, and I can't really think of another Superhero/Main Villain dynamic (besides a well written Lex Luthor) that has the same feeling of 'if not for circumstance, these guys would be friends'. They're enemies, but they've got an intense respect for one another. In one of the new comics, as a Flash from the future comes back in time, one of his greatest regrets is that he wasn't there when Cold passed away.
It's also interesting that in most portrayals of a world without the Flash as a hero (like Flashpoint, or the Crime Sydicate's world), Cold is a hero or a cop or something.
The closest I can think of is the Magneto/Xavier relationship, but they're very different in that they were friends for a long time before becoming enemies.

Fair enough, I think that's a good example, but I also think that's more of a paternalistic relationship.
How come Agents of SHIELD couldn't build halfway interesting sets for its lost alien city, but The Flash can deliver a nearly movie-quality CGI gorilla?

Maybe too much of their budget goes towards the cast and the ******* plane
Also, while I really enjoyed the CGI gorilla, there is a reason they mostly kept him in dark, confined spaces and let him act through a proxy for the first act of the story.
All the points where he had to interact with anything were a little cheesy looking. Still fantastic, especially on a CW budget, but this was nowhere close to movie quality. Unless you haven't seen Rise of the Planet of the Apes. In which case, please go watch that. It's great

I noticed that. I call it smart decision-making on the part of the show's producers. Like Spielberg with Jaws, they found a way to utilize the monster their budget could afford in the most effective way, making their limits work for them. Using Eiling as a proxy demonstrates his mental power, and of course dark confined spaces are just plain scary. They promised us Grodd, and they delivered on Grodd, wayyy better than I expected a broadcast television show could.
Also, on the subject of Eiling: was he supposed to be the show's version of Sportsmaster? That armor...

I'm getting more and more annoyed by the show. I started out thinking it was okay, despite not being able to take Wells serious because I only knew the actor as JD's brother. However, these last few episodes have been focussing too much on Iris West, who ruins the show for me by being such an enormous *****.

Wait - what?
If you were obviously being lied to by everyone you loved, would you be totally cool with it?
Please, she already was a ***** long before that. A good example is about her being mad at Eddy for not telling her what was on his mind, even after Barry said it was work related and that Eddy didn't want to bring the horrors of policing back home with him. Or how about the time she completely ****ed over Barry's budding relationship with that coworker of Iris?

Yeah... Those were lies. And obvious lies at that. Again, she's being systematically lied to by everyone she loves for no good reason, and she's the *****?
Or how about the time she completely ****ed over Barry's budding relationship with that coworker of Iris?
Okay, THAT was crappy. But then, Barry has been a complete jerk most of the season. Obviously, she was an annoying character until recently, but in terms of people who are jerks in this show, Iris ranks pretty low.

As far as I recall, she bought into that lie and despite that still kept on bugging poor Eddy about it.
Again, she's being systematically lied to by everyone she loves for no good reason, and she's the *****?
Let's be fair: there is a good reason. Despite what the writers may want us to think, there's no reason whatsoever to assume that she'd be a good asset to the team, and the information is on a need-to-know basis.

To be honest: I can't remember a real moment of ********ry from Barry's side. His major problem is that he's a huge pushover and a complete moron.
Last episode: pretty bad.
- Seriously, is no one in the entire cast going to bring up that maybe leaving the dangerous murderers down there may possibly be better than transporting them in an untested manner with the aid of known criminals without any ethics whatsoever?
- Moreover: why did they need the Rogue's Gallery there? I mean, just the truck would've been more than enough. There was no need to close down the streets or anything. Without this bit of plot-induced stupidity their stupid and dangerous plan would've worked.
- Where does this envy barry has for the Arrow come from?
- Why are the Arrow and Firestorm suddenly there?
- Who left Wells on vibrate mode?
- Why did Barry need to catch Firestorm?
- Why do Harpo and Groucho leave before they've secured Wells?

I agree with you on the last episode, Rodyle. A lot of problems with it.
As for Barry, being a moron doesn't excuse the crappy things he's done, such as:
- Lie to Iris for no good reason other than Joe said to, and concoct a whole series of further cover lies
- Undermine his friend Eddie not once, but twice, and put Iris is a really crappy position by confessing his feelings for her. He had literally his entire life to confess his feelings to Iris.
- Break his dad out of prison (he returned him, but he still broke him out in the first place)
- Let an attempted mass murderer go free because he learned his secret identity.
He was really carrying the idiot ball all season, so I find it really hard to be mad at Iris when she is the only person acting logically most of the season.
Green Diggle needs to exist. Like, now. **** Hal, give me Stewart/Diggle.
Its almost hilarious how terrible supergirls trailer is. It's like they made the SBL Black Widow trailer into its own show.
I just want a scene with Rory and cold snarkiness over 9000 and I could die a happy man. I hope they find a way for him to still be a flash villain. He is kind of important in that regard

I never liked John Stewart as a GL. The power is based on creativity, and they give it to a no-nonsense marine? But yeah, Dig is like 9/10ths Stewart.
I have a feeling if they do make Dig into a GL, he'll have changed his name to Stewart because reasons. Maybe it'll be his Mom's Maiden name.
Side note: A Green Lantern strength is based on Willpower, so a marine makes sense. The things you can do with the ring are based on your own creativity. So while he might not have the flexibility of many lanterns, he's a strong lantern.

And yeah, I get that Stewart is strong. He's just not as interesting with his power as an artist like Rayner or a showoff like Jordan. He's not a bad character, either, he just should have been something other than a Lantern.

Barry has shown a propensity to follow Oliver's lead, so there's that, plus the trailer has Wells present so... plus, well, aren't they doing Flashpoint for the season finale? We might be getting alternative timeline cold heatwave, or it's a Dr who thing where every mission puts them back at their home point
Back to The Dig Lantern, Stewart style GL is going to be easier if the fx budget, plus the tone of the show isn't exactly "giant catchers mitt" at all. We will see that when, I dunno, they let Cisco or felicity use the ring super briefly, but otherwise no.
