So this is where all the cool people gather while the anime clan gets a notice of closure. Would be nice if some of you guys drop by, maybe even become friends or something.
Nice to see some [C] discussion going on, it's one of my favorite 2011 shows, I even got myself a Midas card from the official store. I agree that short length is its main vice: the world that is shown is just too broad and interesting to fit in just 11 episodes. Some sort of spin-off about the life of different entres from all over the world would've been perfect (like in some official blogs), but it doesn't seem like there are any plans to bring it back. What a shame.
Has anyone watched Tweeny Witches? It's been lying in my backlog for a while, and I even watched a single episode, but it doesn't look that great right now. Is it worth picking back up?
Just finished Puella Magi Madoka Magica. Excellent, and hellbells you guys were right about it being dark. Elfen Lied had more light moments than that. I liked the ending though.
Why do I finish that anime feeling like Madoka was more of a God-person than Haruhi ever was?
As an aside, any other gems you guys would suggest to me? Not sure that I have a particular genre in mind this time. Just want something to watch.

Well if you want something to watch and don't care about Genre I suggest The Irresponsible Captain Tylor. It's a bit older (early 90's I think), but it's a great watch that's funny and deep.
I'm looking for something a little darker to watch next.
There is something wrong with you.
Watched Code Geass again. Happy I did. Although I am seeing some things now which make me shake my head.

I got some titles now. So, Monster , Lan-chan? I hope the pace is fast. I just can't take anime that don't open with something exciting, even if the rest has no action. Been spoiled by television, I guess.
Teia, I would like to show respect to your reply by responding to it, but I find I have nowhere to go with it. I really wonder what you mean by an approach taking a focus on events, but I'm worried about that spinning into nonspecific murk without something to ground anchor the topic around ... something.
Lol, don't get the wrong idea. I loved Toradora to pieces, I just don't like to watch anime with similar moods back to back (too much dark is depressing, to cheery and i get bored)
BTW, I saw you mention Monster. Is it good? I've seen the name floated a bunch, and along with a lot of positive things.

Monster is easily my favorite manga of all time, and from what i've seen, the anime follows it perfectly. It isn't really that fast paced, and it's more story than action, but the story will have you hooked in no time.
I really need to finish the anime, i've read the manga like 4 times though.
Speaking of animes I need to finish, I stopped watching Code Geass around halfway through season 2. I loved the first season but the second season lost me. I should give it another go, i'm sure it'll be worth it. But before that I need to watch Puella Magi Madoka Magica, as I love myself a nice dark story.
My favorite animes are Baccano(Easily my favorite of the bunch), Darker Than Black, Death Note, Durarara, FMA Brotherhood, Noein, Eden of the East, and I suppose Monster as well, though I haven't finished the anime yet.
Anyone else just have that one anime that is hard to get through and not because you don't like it per say, but more that it has little problems that make it hard to just sit down and watch. I am having that problem with Xam'd, I like the concept and the plot and characters are pretty good but just it's pacing and throwing around things like you should know about them before they show up just makes it a pain to sit down and try to watch more than one episode a week (seeing as after a week you are never sure if they are randomly introducing something or you just forgot they foreshadowed it).
After episode six of Madoka I had to take a break, so I watched Gurren Lagann until I felt happy enough to see my soul destroyed.
Yeah, it's easily one of my top fives.

Clannad. I have no idea why I dropped it halfway through. Just sorta lost interest for no reason.

First season > Second season. They try to cram too many plot arcs into the second season, and it's hard to stay engaged with all of them. The ending is cool though.
And yeah Puella Magi Madoka Magica definitely fits the bill! Enjoy

Hmm, I liked Baccano, but I had two problems with it:
1.) The multiple timelines was awesome, except you knew who was and wasn't going to die, which really really really made the first one 1931 boring to watch, and 1933 felt pointless (I still don't know why they were all searching for that guy in particular. There were plenty of immortals at that point.). The 1932 on the train though was fantastic.
2.) i understand that a major theme of the anime is that stories really aren't that clearcut and that most are simply parts of continuing wholes, but I couldn't shake the feeling that the entire series was just a really long premise for the audience to make up stories about. There was almost no time spent developing a lot of characters who were introduced, and the ending intentionally leaves several conflicts unfinished/unexplored. It was creative, I just wasn't a fan.
Huge fan of FMA brotherhood though. First anime I ever watched, and still probably one of my favorites.

Clannad. I have no idea why I dropped it halfway through. Just sorta lost interest for no reason.
Same here for Clannad, though I did eventually finish it, it only took me like, 2 years and 5 or 6 tries before I finally watched it to the end. I'm not really sure why it took me that long to finish, I honestly enjoyed it quite a bit.
First season > Second season. They try to cram too many plot arcs into the second season, and it's hard to stay engaged with all of them. The ending is cool though.
Yeah, i'll definitely have to give it a second shot. I just remember taking like, 2 weeks off without watching it and when I came back to it I had no idea what was going on, so I just dropped it.
Huge fan of FMA brotherhood though. First anime I ever watched, and still probably one of my favorites.
I like how there were essentially 2 different stories for FMA, the first anime and Brotherhood. I started off reading the manga for FMA, and my sister watched the first anime, I was so confused when she started talking about Nazi Germany and some character called Dante and whatnot. After that I watched the first anime and was so confused, everything started off so familiar and then got so different. We watched Brotherhood together when it came out and she got her turn to be confused, she got to see the story like it was meant to be told. Good series all around, though Brotherhood was infinitely better imo.
@FMA: the first time around was following the manga until a certain point, then animators pull stuff out of no where. Brotherhood was definitely much better.
@Getting through a series: Haven't watched Clannad yet (or Toradora or Monster), but the series that I've been trying to watch, but can't really get into atm is Le Chevalier D'Eon. I guess I am having similar issues trying to get into Gurenn Lagann. I just watch the first few episodes, then get bored or something and don't watch the rest.
@Madoka: Nice dark series though you wouldn't think it from the promotional pictures.
If any of you want help to try keeping track of your animes, I recommend using this site to keep track. I'm not sure if there are other sites like this, but this is the one that I know of. See my list here.

Yeah, I felt that way with Air, I couldn't really understand what was going on, or if anything was going on at all for that matter. It felt so slow, which was a shame because it looked so very pretty.
Elfenlied: It's kinda depressing; most of the characters have very sad back stories, but it is also very funny (mostly unintentionally, I think) and well worth a watch.
Indeed, my favorite part of it was actually more the message and how vividly it's conveyed
We create our own monsters through self fulfilling prophecies. Lucy and her fellow mutants are harassed and teased for being monsters and through that become the monsters people expect them to be. Very much like Frankenstein, but bloodier, and less Victorian

Gurren Lagann: Another feel-good anime, filled to the brim with awesome. The difference between the two series makes it very refreshing (the first being the revolution against the beastmen and the second being an established government). Fight tha Powa!
First arc is a little better than the second arc imo. I liked how it showed Simon's growth, starting as the scared kid, going into depression, finding himself, and rising to be the hero. The second arc was cool, but had a lot less of a theme, and felt more just like they wanted to continue the story. I also liked Nia so...

The most powerful anime I've had the pleasure of viewing is by far Clannad: After Story. It is the first piece of fiction to make actually cry.
Yeah for me it was the last episode of Angel Beats. Cried when I watched it the first time, then cried twice during it when I watched it on the last day of high school. Very emotional

Can I get some suggestions on which one to watch next?
My favorite was Mirai Nikki, closely followed by Angel Beats, which is a completely different genre. Death Note were good too, but missed some action. Code Geass arc 1 was nice too.
I started on Evangelion, but can't really get hooked. It's just going too slow, I guess.
They left out the part where Yawgmoth is resurrected, but has been cleansed as Yawgmoth the Redeemed, and now must awaken Chromium so that Karn can fuse with him and create what can only be known as : the ultimate taco.
My faces are DeathNote and Berserk. I enjoyed DBZ in my youth, but after the "All the living beings in the inverse leant me their power so I could über-super-duper-awesome spirit bomb this invincible alien menace that just pounded Vegeta's skull into paste" x30, it started to get old. Poor Vegeta, never got an ounce of respect from anyone.
Furthermore, and feel free to shame me on this, but I've done alot of research on EVA, and would very much enjoy seeing it. I think I'm waiting for all of the OVAs to come out, is this wise? Should I start with the older stuff? Is Shinji really that much of a sissy? What the hell are the Angels anyway? And what in gods name happened at the end of that show?
I'd love a fan or even a hater of that show to fill me in on those questions.

"Some say that time is cyclical and that history inevitably repeats. My will is my own. I won't bow to fate."
I dunno, I found the ending to Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt to be even more rage-inducing than Evangelion's. It's like Gainax decided to abandon their "mindscrew ending" thing (their rrrrrule, if you would) and just go for an outright troll ending. But aside from that, P&S is a much better show than Evangelion just because it doesn't try to take itself so deadly seriously only to shoot itself in the foot by not being nearly as deep as it thinks it is.

You can say that for me if I say I enjoy Oni Chichi or Boku no Pico (I actually enjoy the former)
