And four of those games were when Roy wasn't around. Watch what happens when he does come back.
I smell a return to the playoffs and a start of another long streak of playoff runs.
Hooray another fan! Yeah it will be nice the sooner they do get back to the playoffs. Crap before they missed getting in the playoffs once we had like 22 or 23 in a row something like that.
I think it's slightly unrealistic to expect Portland to return to the playoffs this year. They're definetely improving, but, not quite that much yet. I wouldn't be surprised to see them in the playoffs within 2 years from now, however.

Well its a possibility the main problem with that is how ridiculous the west records are. The #7 team in the west Houston has a 15-10 record not extremely high but thats really good for #7 lol. Meanwhile the same win loss record in the east gets you 3rd place lol.
Also its too early to count the Blazers out yes odds are they will have a difficult time making it but its not like its set in stone that they won't. They are doing much better then the analysts/experts predicted anyways.
Awww, the Suns winning streak finally ended. Still, 15 games is impressive, and I still think either they or the Spurs are the best team in the league right now.
Yeah that was a really good game though both the suns and the wizards were going at it. Gilbert Arena's can be crazily good on the offensive end though putting up 54 points in that game and 60 points just a couple of games before. Gilbert Arenas can shoot 3 pointers from anywhere its just unbelievable.
The Suns almost won last year(there's no way they would have lost to Miami), and that was without Amare. They are absolutely a legitimate contender this year, especially since SA seems kind of sluggish and off, so far.
nenad kristic injured for the year = raptors win the atlantic, slightly edging out boston
they'be been playing well even without chris bosh and morris peterson. bargnani has been playing solid ball and is definitely making a case for rookie of the year. made a sweet larry bird-like pass to rasho during crunch time to help the raps win against minnesota, where garnett was shut down in the first half, only to have a last-minute-but-too-late-to-make-a-true-difference surge, and mike james was simply outplayed in every facet by tj ford. go raps!

The Mavs currently have the best record.
And again I'll say go Mavs ftw. I just hope they don't choke again this year -_-
Well not sure if this applies but looks like MJ is going through a divorce. Poor guy wonder if that means he may return to sports yet again lol. I realize hes getting old but he can still be a somewhat decent player with that much talent lol.
he's way past his prime to be the same impact player he always was. divorces are commonplace in the world of upper echelon celebrity (whether it be actor/singer/athlete/etc.), so take that news as the usual.
on another topic, how about that rookie of the year race? not a true candidate standing out so far, but overall, solid performances from the leaders of the pack, which include (according to nba.com) Andrea Bargnani, Adam Morrison, Rudy Gay, and surprisingly, Jorge Garbajosa of the Toronto Raptors. He was a signed acquisition from Europe, who just so happens to have played for Elite Euro leagues for a while now. What happens if he ends up winning ROTY? how does the NBA react when the league's best rookie is someone who's been playing professionally for about 11 years?
Maybe they will give MJ a shot as a coach people would show up for his games just to see him and/or see how well he coaches. Obviously assuming he wants to coach of course. I just thought about these things cause he apparently only left sports to spend time with his family. Of course he was also getting old which matters.
if gretzky could do it, MJ could definitely do it as well. But seeing Gretzky's horrid team, I don't think any GM would be in their right minds to follow suit. I'm looking at you memphis.
Well some people have crossed over from player to coach Maurice Cheeks for instance. He may not be the best coach ever to coach but hes halfway decent.
The general thinking with "greatest of all time" type players like Gretzky and Jordan is that they're too intense and competitive to be successful coaches. Winning was easy for them during their playing days, and they can't handle the fact that the outcome of the games isn't directly under their control anymore.
Oh ok I just thought krizzly was mentioning that player coaches can't cut it or something lol.
yeah, i was mostly going for people who were the best at their sports. there are many people who are great coaches AND players. larry bird comes to mind, he did a great job with indiana. too bad his tenure was pretty short, he had potential to lead them to the finals.

Mo Cheeks is an awful coach. You don't remember his Portland days? He had no offensive strategy, and never disciplined the players at all, which is why all the players love him, and why he is considered a player's coach.
Let's not forget the only guy to be in the Hall of Fame as both a coach and a player: Lenny Wilkens. He played and coached for Seattle and coached for Atlanta when they were a halfway decent team (seems like so long ago, doesn't it?). His stint with the Raptors, though, was less than stellar. But as a coach, he broke Red Auerbach's record for most coaching wins. I know nothing of his playing career, but he made the Hall of Fame so he couldn't have been bad. Also, Phil Jackson was a player for the Knicks teams that won two titles in the early '70s, though admittedly he wasn't that good.
No one gonna nod to Avery Johnson in Dallas? He won a NBA Title
Player coaches certainly CAN cut it. Though, a great player a great team manager does not always make
As you say, they can, but not always. Avery Johnson is a special case--he was never the greatest player talentwise when he was playing, so he had to be smarter and understand basketball better than everyone else to be able to compete. That's an excellent characteristic for a coach. Most other players don't have that aspect to their credit.
For the record: the Dallas Mavericks are going to win it all this year. The team is much deeper this year than it was last year (to clarify: last year after Devin Harris started starting), and Dirk appears to be even better. Don't get me wrong, there are some very good teams out there. Two other ones in the state of Texas come to mind, along with Phoenix, Utah, and the Lakers. But, barring injuries, Dallas is the most complete team in the league with the best coach in the league.
@Stone: No chance for the Rockets this year? All they did in the offseason was get better. Even without Yao they have stayed in the hunt. Who knew Diek would step up so much? And Luther Head off the bench is gold. If Bonzi can come back to his form of last year, watch out NBA.
To paraprase martin luther king people should be judged on the content of there character. None of this should matter and people should not care about posts. I only have 2 posts but i can already tell that im going to be a better poster than many posts i ve read.
I doubt Bonzi will produce. Wasn't he in a contract year last year? If so, of course he stepped up. If he didn't, he wouldn't get paid. His glory days were used up in Portland I suspect.

it's improved slightly since last year, but only slightly
Objection!

Slightly indeed. To me they look like the Mavs did a few years ago. Nash and Dirk had their sweet spots and great plays but no defense.

Well yeah Maurice had some problems but I thought he did an ok job. He isn't a good coach thats for sure but I think hes average.
