I like most sports but my favorite one to watch is MMA. I believe it is the sport that has the highest level of skill and training. And even with the skills and training, one shot is all it takes to lose the fight.
My favorite sport to play is golf. It seems like an easy sport, but you will find out really quickly that it requires a lot of patience.
If you don't consider golf a sport, my favorite one to play is basketball. In addition to teaching you dexterity and hand-eye coordination, it teaches you to be aggressive.
Too me there's nothing better then skateboarding. Not saying I'm incredibly good at it but its almost like an art form and less of sport. Its incredible to watch and the level of skill has done nothing but go up ever since its started. Too me it's one of the hardest sports there is. You can't be out of shape and skateboard it just doesn't work. And skateboarding isn't standing on the street corner doing a kickflip every once in awhile, I mean really hitting the pavement and skating everything you come across. No plaza, pool, curb or handrail is safe.
There really isn't anything more relaxing then putting on the headphones and hitting the street for a whole day of skateboarding.

When you think that you're thinking outside of the box, you're really just thinking inside of another box.
Basketball, hands down. I love how dynamic it is, how skill it takes to be great at it, and how much strategy is involved. It's also great if you don't have a ton of people, or enough to play 5 on 5. It's nice to just shoot around sometimes by yourself, or play a game of horse with a friend, or any kind of 1v1, 2v2, etc depending on how many people you have. Just way too much fun. Part of the reason people watch sports is because they may not be able to play, so to say it's 'idiotic' to watch sports is ridiculous. Not everyone can go out to a football field with 20 guys to play, or find a rink to just play a pick up game of hockey.
On the opposite end of the spectrum, I'm not sure if I love basketball or hate baseball more. I could write a dissertation on why baseball is awful. Beyond boring, the rules make no sense, and the game is muddled in it's outrageous tradition and is completely uncompromising to the modern era (example: few interleague games. Really, you have a 162 game schedule and you can't play everyone in the league? Why? That just robs the fans.)
MMA is the only sport I watch regularly. RabidVacin is 100% right about the skill and training, pro fighters could run circles around other pro athletes in the gym. I'll watch post season football from time to time but I don't go out of my way to do so. Pretty much every sport on this list is boring as hell to watch. Especially auto racing, take nascar for example, what's so exciting about watching a bunch of rednecks turn left for four hours? And how is driving considered a sport? I don't get it.
If I could have voted for two I would have. Football and hockey are 1a & 1b for me. I dont follow any other sports even remotely as close as I do these two. To me both epitomize the essence of team sports. I love football's competitiveness and physicality. In regard to hockey, I appreciate its cerebral nature and its uncertainty; the feeling that anything could happen at any second.

This pretty much sums it up for me, as well. I can watch any football or hockey game with high interest. These are my favs. Baseball would be a distant third.

Dude, Im and oldschooller and theres plenty of out of shape guys who beat **** on their boards. Its more skill than "body", if you know what I mean.
But I agree is closer to an art form than a sport, in many ways. A popular and raw art, anyways.
Yea now that I think of it I know a lot of people who couldn't run a block without almost throwing up but can absolutely shred on a board. Skating is all about reaction time and balance. I swear some pro's see things in slow motion.

When you think that you're thinking outside of the box, you're really just thinking inside of another box.
As a kid, the more popular sports (football, basketball, baseball, etc) never really appealed to me. They struck me as simplistic, and I associated them with typical chauvinistic behavior.
Now that I'm older, I see that these sports don't have to have a chauvinistic association at all, and I see the subtleties in strategy that go into those sports, and enjoy watching football or college basketball on occasion. I'm no good at any of those sports though, especially since my lack of interest when I was younger meant I never took the time to develop the skills to play those sports well.
However: I do love mountain biking. I like the fact that my only competitor, if there is one at all, is myself (though I much prefer riding with friends). I like the sense of exploration that accompanies mountain biking, and the tangible feeling of literally overcoming obstacles in my path.

Motorsports, hands down. Specifically Formula 1. Screw NASCAR. For F1; nothing combines athletism and talent together with technological advancement as motorsport. And if you think for a second professional drivers aren't fit, you're fooling yourself... no power steering or brakes, driving for stints lasting hours long requiring pure concentration and awareness the entire time.
Plus, grassroots motorsports are excessively easy to get into; whether it's local SCCA AutoX clubs (which I participate heavily in), your local dragstrip, or for more populated areas than mine full road courses there are simple options available. The best part of it; you can participate with a slow car and have a blast. Zero preparation, zero training, for good, pure adrenaline rushes. True, you'll get faster as you hone your skill but there is zero barrier of entry besides the stuff people make up for themselves. If you're an adrenaline junkie, you owe it to yourself to look into it.
Tennis... the extreme, pushed to the edge style about it, the accuracy, the tricks, everything! Only singles though, not doubles. From aces to epic volleys, it's all fascinating for me. Like a sheer mental and physical challenge, with crucial decision making involved in every aspect.
College and Pro basketball is probably the funnest to watch. It's generally non-stop action.
Love baseball, but it's generally pretty boring to watch until about this time of the year when playoffs start forming up.
Football is awesome, however, I usually lose interest due to the 15-20 seconds between plays and the time outs and the commercials. Playoffs and Superbowl is pretty great though.
Only other "sport" I generally find myself watching is World Poker Tour.
Formula 1 racing. I love this sport because it is the pinnacle of auto racing. You have to be smart, fit, and nearly fearless to compete. The cars themselves are at the cunning edge of technology and the tracks put drivers to real tests. Not just physically but mentally. They don't go in circles for 500 laps.
The roar of these cars is unlike anything else. I hope one day I can hear one in person. I can't even imagine what it would be like.
Just the matches going on in all the positions is soo epic. From the battle in the scrum. To the battle in the lineouts. Which teams flyhalf is getting the ascendancy. How the backline is firing is also very interesting.
Watching people just generally tackling the snot out of each other is just soo awesome. From the more open and expansive games of provincial and super rugby levels to the more conservative arm wrestle type matches of test rugby it all just makes me giddy with national pride.
Wow. Hockey's got the most love? Must be a lot of Canadians here. It is definitely my favorite sport. I love playing in my adult league and having Friday and Saturday nights chasing vulcanized rubber makes the week go by faster.
I'm just curious to see why people like the sports they do.

My favorite sport to play is probably hockey, but I don't play it often.
And that is my simplified opinion on sports in general.
If you consider MTG a sport, I guess that can be my fav, it's what I voted for.
