Stan "The Man" Lee - the godfather of Marvel Comics whose cast of characters such as Spider-Man, the Hulk, and the X-Men were beloved by millions of readers for decades before becoming a multibillion-dollar movie empire that dominated box offices in the 21st century, has sadly passed away on November 12th, 2018 due to complications of pneumonia at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, California. He was 95. Known for the famous catchphrases, "Excelsior!" and "Face front, True Believers!"
I can only imagine how difficult the final years of his life had been after his wife passed away. Clearly he loved his fans but he lost his "rock" and it wasn't long until vultures moved in whether it was allegedly his daughter JC or people going out to steal his blood by pretending to be his nurse and then using it to fake signatures and sell comics. It's going to be hard to forget just how crummy the last three years of Stan Lee's life were but hopefully the other 92 years will be what people really remember.
If there was one thing that you could say about Stan Lee is that he LOVED his fans. The man had plenty of money, plenty of industry clout, however he still made a personal commitment to meeting with the fans at comic book conventions across the country. He dedicated his life up until the very end for the fandom and it's something that would be nearly impossible to accomplish nowadays. I can't think of any one person whose been as committed to the fandom as much as Stan Lee. That's what we should all remember about him.
A man whose wacky cameos in just about every Marvel film was always a bright spot, was always something that you would low-key kind of look for and in that moment when you saw him you're like, "Oh that's Stan Lee!" You'd see him in some random tacked-on role and it was always worth it. If you missed him then you kinda felt like an idiot until you looked it up online. Most of us will never live into our 90's and those of us that do will never be "as there" as Stan Lee was. He was just that type of person.
Everyone of these Marvel Cinematic Universe actors / actresses who are sending out their condolences to Stan Lee that never bothered to help him in his final days will hopefully learn something from him in regards to the importance of being dedicated to fans ABOVE ALL ELSE. As for the people that took advantage of Stan Lee, they're going to have to deal with the consequences of that for the rest of their lives. There will never be another person who truly understands the fandom as much as Stan Lee did.
Stan Lee led by example and as someone who should be served as a role model for all these snooty stuck up video games people and these actors / actresses who play the roles of the very superheroes that Stan Lee himself created who think they're better than the role itself. We should all choose to remember Stan Lee as the legend he was, the beacon of light in the commercialized world where the fandom is mostly seen as wallets and dollar signs instead of something to appreciate. Stan Lee UNDERSTOOD the fandom and that's why we loved him. Hopefully he's reunited with his wife and for one final time,
