I'm currently re-reading the original Dragonriders of Pern trilogy, after being inspired by time-travel dragons talk regarding Khans block, and remembering that somebody gifted it to me last Christmas.

Didn't I just see something about Pern being the WB's next big fantasy series?
"On July 29, 2014, Warner Bros. optioned all 22 volumes of the book for a feature live-action film"
So maybe, but it will be a while if it does happen. It was also optioned in 2006 by a company that was supposed to start production on a Dragonflight movie in 2012, but I don't think that ever came to fruition.

I'm reading Rule 34, by Charles Stross, for a sci fi book club, but I'm having a hard time keeping my interest up. I was excited to read it because of Stross' reputation as a good contemporary Lovecraftian writer (via the Atrocity Archives), but I'm feeling a bit left down. I'm 70-80 pages in, and nothing has happened. The novel follows 3(?) principal characters, but is written in a weird 2nd person style (as if the reader is the character). It hasn't felt like an effective way of establishing the near future setting. Anyone else read this one?

I read those and it didn't really do much for me. Does it get better after book 1?
As for me: I'm reading the Culture series at the moment. At 'Use of Weapons' at the moment.

We have laboured long to build a heaven, only to find it populated with horrors.
I've been reading The Sword of Truth series by Terry Goodkind
I remembering them starting off really well, but later enemies are pretty blatant Political Rhetoric.
I'm actually enjoying the political messages in them thus far. The bureaucracy of the city in the south Richard ends up in reminds me very much of dealing with permits for home improvements.
Lost in Shangri-La by Mitchell Zuckoff. It's a good book about a plane crash on Papua New Guinea during WW2 and the rather incredible rescue of the crew. While there, the crew came into contact with a very old native tribe. I didn't think I'd like the book and started it on a whim. Glad I did.

To be honest: I stopped taking anything in it seriously after the 'chicken that was not a chicken', but kept on reading just to see how it would go on. I started hating the series by the time Richard made a statue so beautiful people stopped being evil, the writer by the time an enemy of an army could just walk in because she hadn't had her blouse on, and myself for not stopping reading earlier by the time he was recreating potions, down to the amounts needed in it, from taste. It was, frankly, the worse love-letter to Ayn Rand I've ever read.

I'm re-reading the Wise Man's Fear. Then I'm going to dive into the first two of the 'new canon' Star Wars books. I don't even know what to call them yet, as EU isn't appropriate anymore.

Rather the reverse. I do think there's potential in a movie adaptation though. Filter out some of McCaffrey's weird hangups and just focus on the intrinsic badassitude of the premise.

Read them as a teenager. A couple years back, I picked one up again and started reading... couldn't get through the first chapter. Forget the contentious politics or the implausible plotting, the prose was just plain excruciating. I feel kind of bad saying that, since Goodkind apparently overcame severe dyslexia to write, but... yeah.

I'm reading Ken Liu's The Grace of Kings. I saw a lot of places comparing it to Game of Thrones... but it's not, in really any capacity other than being about war and having multiple 'viewpoint' characters. I'd put it closer to maybe World War Z in how builds the story of the changing world through the perspective of individual characters. So far, it's pretty good.
Been on an epic poetry kick, read Beowulf last and now shallowly into Paradise Lost. Nice to read verse originally written in modern English, for once. Not sure if I'm going to reread an old favorite next or some of the Canterbury tales.
Don Quixote. I know I'm hardly the first person to say this, but... it's pretty good, guys.
You might want to try Jacques the Fatalist if you haven't, I think most people who really like Don Quixote should read it. Especially if you're interested in more messing with the formula of the novel and good one-liners/quotables but less solid characters.

Big Thanks to Xeno for sig art <3.

It's the least cyberpunk cyberpunk novel I've read, and it's wonderful.

Great series, and Use of Weapons is probably my favorite of them.
