American Rock n' Roll Legend and Singer/Songwriter Tom Petty has sadly passed away at the age of 66 after suffering from cardiac arrest. His songs were staples of FM rock radio throughout the decades with hits such as "I Won't Back Down", "Free Fallin'", and "You Don't Know How It Feels".
Tom Petty's songwriting was shaped by the music he heard growing up: the ringing folk-rock guitars of the Byrds, the crunch of the Rolling Stones, the caustic insights of Bob Dylan, the melodic turns of the Beatles, the steadfast backbeat of Southern soul and the twang of country-rock.
His music touched the lives of so many people helping them get through difficult moments in their lives. Some of my favorite songs by him including those that he performed with the Heartbreakers include, "Walls (Circus)", "Runnin' Down a Dream", "Don't Do Me Like That", and "Mary Jane's Last Dance".
Thanks for the memories Tom, you will be greatly missed.

"Restriction breeds creativity." - Sheldon Menery on EDH / Commander in Magic: The Gathering
"Cancel Culture is the real reason why everyone's not allowed to have nice things anymore." - Anonymous
"For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul?" - Mark 8:36
"Most men and women will grow up to love their servitude and will never dream of revolution." - Aldous Huxley, Brave New World
"Every life decision is always a risk / reward proposition." - Sanjay Gupta
Terrible loss. This guy was a master songwriter and had a unique sound that gave us dozens of hits spanning several decades. He also contributed to the Traveling Wilburys--good stuff as well.
To paraphrase some random person in my FB feed the other day: "His music sounds like freedom." Quite right.
I wanna glide down over Mulholland
I wanna write her name in the sky
I'm gonna free fall out into nothin'
Gonna leave this world for awhile
