Speaking of which I haven't even played a deck with multiple clans in this game. How is it any different from running a deck with just one Clan? If it's the same then I can see the argument as to how the triggers and topdecking make this game too luck based.
What's interestingly strange about the Vanguard TCG is that you can add cards to boost the power of your Clan(s) in any way you like but you can still lose against a Preconstructed Starter Deck that's completely unchanged despite all those updates due to lucky triggers and topdecks made in the game.
It actually makes the game incredibly balanced because it makes it to where both players are on equal footing with eachother instead of who spent the most amount of money on their deck that determines the winner. I've played other TCG's where Preconstructed Decks that come in Starters usually lose to well built decks 9 times out of 10 but the Vanguard TCG blows that logic out of the water.

If you ask me, "Top Deck: The Game" is one where you draw a single card, when staring down you're supposed to lose against next turn, and winning. Yu-Gi-Oh and, to a slightly lesser extent, Magic are guilty of this.
Triggers in Vanguard, despite their effects, don't really do that. If you're smart you tend to overcompensate against a Vanguard attack anyway, making the trigger in most cases moot.
The only time where I've felt like I lose due to luck sacking was when my Brother pulled a critical trigger for every single attack, I let the first 4 damage through, and then was climbing an uphill battle against grade 0s and 1s for the rest of it.
Cardfight!! Vanguard is starting to get big in my area and in my area we got a small playerbase that's slowing growing throughout each expansion and starter deck being released until the U.S. catches up to Japan and Singapore. Right now I'm hoping the Vanguard Anime will get a U.S. English Dub Broadcast on Cartoon Network instead of 4KidsTV getting their hands on it.
My area recently got the new Starters from Season 2 of the Anime series with Gold Paladins (the new deck Aichi Sendo is running) and the new Dragon Clan that Kai is running for the Vanguard Circuit. Definitely looking forward to running Gold Paladins since ya know the main protagonist is running the same deck of course. Season 2 is interesting so far, I'm wondering how they'll unseal the Royal Paladin and Kagero Clans...

So far I've really liked the game. Yeah luck plays in it, but it does in Magic too you can top deck your 1 of to win, mana flood, mana screw. I like Cardfight Vanguard because so far it's pretty balanced and you can have awesome comebacks. I missed my grade 1 ride once vs Royal Paladins. Ended up getting to superior ride Aleph activate his ability flip it back over and activate Dragonic Overlord and ended up winning. Watching the anime actually teaches you pretty well compared to Yu-gi-oh and the fact that Aichi doesn't always win is awesome. I got tired of Yugi being like top deck Kuriboh and win with that somehow every game.

Some people hate it but the anticipation of triggers is what makes it great. Maybe it's just because it's not as competitive yet is what makes it fun but nothing like taking 6 damage and getting that clutch heal trigger or riding Grade 3 to swing and get double Critical triggers.

^ Double Crit triggers are pure sackiness if you ask me, by far the worst way to win or lose.
I'm still having a hard time convincing anyone at my LGS to look into the game, they're still all too firmly attached to YGO. <_<
They're not sacky if you run 16
Speaking of Yugioh, I won the local Regionals and I haven't played since the last one late last year.

What's worse is If you're going up against a deck that runs 4 Perfect Guards and you Twin Drive check into 2 Critical Triggers while they prevent all damage from the attack to their Vanguard or whoever is being attacked. Not sure If the Critical damage would still go through though.
The only Triggers that aren't really good are Stands cause most of the time you reveal them as damage checks instead of mostly utilizing them on your own turn when you're attacking. Here's a good example of what I'm getting at here:
They attack one of my RG or my Vanguard, I take the damage and get a Stand Trigger which is useless while the +5000 Power boost is the only thing that helps. Really what's the point of Stands If they are only good during your turn?
Heck the only beneficial Triggers in the entire game are Draw and Heal Triggers. You get a Critical as a damage check and the +5000 boost is the only good benefit but a Critical is more useful on your turn than a Stand in most cases unless you're running an Aggro deck like Kagero, Spike Brothers, or Nova Grapplers.

Stand Triggers, like most, are only really beneficial if you run 6-8. Pale Moon does this, as they have really low power and rely on their rear guards to boost their soul swapping plays.
I don't really like Draw Triggers myself, probably because they don't really affect board state.
The situational triggers which work best only on Offense (Crit and Stand) are 10k guards, Heal which is only good when you are tied in life or losing is also a 10k guard. Draw triggers which are good anytime is only a 5k guard. That is a consideration when constructing a deck. I ran Oracle for a while with 8 draw triggers but the 5k blocks are painful.. Had to change it up..
I myself am actually about to get into this game. In my area we have about 20 people who play the game, and it keeps growing. So, this weekend I'll be ordering a few boxes, and getting more people into it. I plan on building OTT, then when Demonic Lord Invasion comes out, I'll start work on Dark Irregulars.

5 Color Cromat with tons of tutoring that doesn't reveal the card. Play a few classic playing cards, a couple Uno Draw 4s (Ancestral Recall eat your heart out), some basic Pokemon for defense, a Get Out of Jail Free card, and have assembling all five pieces of Exodia be your win condition. People will flip because EXODIA!? IMPOSSIBLE! NOBODY'S EVER BEEN ABLE TO SUMMON HIM!
OTT is good now but it gets a serious Boost in Set 3 (Tsukuyomi) and then a whole different deck archetype in Set 7 (Souless OTT).. both look promising
CEO Amaterasu is what makes OTT good atm, Tsukuyomi is considerably luck based and as such can be inconsistant. The Soulless build look promising, though the cardpool for that build is rather shallow.

I really hope Cardfight!! Vanguard catches on, it's an amazing TCG but I'm not sure If I can say the same thing about the English Dub though. Alot of people are saying it's terrible and it's worse than One Piece by 4Kids, I've seen all the episodes so far and it wasn't that bad to be honest.
At the cardshop closest to my house we have a very small meta for Cardfight!! Vanguard and had a couple Unsanctioned Swiss Tournaments since we only had around 4-5 people enter including myself and the Top decks played were Royal Paladins and Kagero.

Its a new game, its going to take time to grow. My area started when the game first came out and now we have usually 16-20 players at the main store I go to, and other shops have decent turnouts too. The problem is (in my area) that not everyone wants too travel too far, and some of the other stores are pretty far apart. If all the turnouts were combined (adding the ppl that go to other stores to the ppl that go to my main store) We would have around 30-35, and we still get a new player or 2 every week.
In regards to the Yu-Gi-Oh! player's perspective of Cardfight!! Vanguard, it seems to me that Yu-Gi-Oh! players only see Vanguard as a Side Game to escape their frustrations from playing competitively in their own TCG and are afraid to heavily invest in Vanguard because they feel they'll regret getting out of Yu-Gi-Oh! for it because of how much money they poured into the game itself. I could probably say the same for Magic and Pokemon players but Yu-Gi-Oh's case is more of a "Painful Choice" akin to the Spell card of the same name.

It's not nearly as terrible as the dubs 4kids does, but I still didn't like it. Changing "Boost" to "Support" when all the English-language cards and rules documents use "Boost." Kamui is pronounced "ka-MOOEY" and makes me want to take a chainsaw to his voice box, it's so goddamn annoying even by bratty-little-kid standards. (His two friends were surprisingly tolerable by comparison.) Misaki is fine, but every one of her lines is said with a sarcastic undertone that doesn't appeal to me as much as her original voice. And Aichi sounds too masculine.

This is kind of the sentiment that a friend of mine who's an ex-competitive Yugioh player expressed to me. He has a couple trial decks at home but he doesn't want to bother to sink any money into Vanguard because he's already invested too much in Yugioh (and Magic).
Does your friend think that Cardfight!! Vanguard is going to fail in the U.S. in fears that Kaijudo might outsell it or something? I barely have a metagame for Vanguard and it's not much. In my last Cardfight!! Vanguard Tournament we only had 5 people including myself enter and I went 2-1 with a Bye in the 1st Round. I've been in other cardshops and both Vanguard and Kaijudo aren't doing that well.
I'd like a good explanation from a Yu-Gi-Oh! player why they think their TCG is better than Cardfight!! Vanguard. What makes Yu-Gi-Oh! better than Vanguard? I'd really like to know. Are people nowadays really too shallow to get into a TCG like Vanguard? So what If you spent $1 million playing Yu-Gi-Oh! you could sell all your cards for that much and pay for what you need in Vanguard right?
