Another comparison I can make is CFV's rip-off distribution scheme, though. Does anyone actually buy booster packs?
The first set has 80 cards, ignoring "Special" pimp cards. Of these, 20 (25%) are rare, and 20 (25%) are rarer-than-rare. Compare to Dark Ascension, which has 158 cards, 41 (26%) of which are rare, and 14 (9%) are rarer-than-rare. And a CFV booster only contains 5 cards, yet Wal-Mart is (for some unfathomable reason) stocking them at the same price as M:TG packs.
You must be joking. In every box, there are 22 rares, 5 double rares, and 3 triple rares, and potentially an sp to replace a triple. If you know the odds, making money back is too easy.

Why do people always compare this game to Yu-gi-oh <_<
Mainly because Yu-Gi-Oh has been going down the ****ter since September and there's been plenty of talk about the YGO community jumping ship to it.
The last two banlists have done nothing except hurt the game and make obvious attempts to push Xyz over Synchros, unbanning Envoy of the Beginning and unlimiting Call of the Haunted were the major mistakes.
Am I to believe that an Angel of Serenity (a 7 drop mediocre reanimation target) is going to have the SAME value as a Hallowed Fountain? 15 bucks each? Sorry, not going to happen. Not now, not ever.
6 bucks for a Sphinx's Revelation? The value will tank by at least 50% as most of the spells of it's nature (post-Stroke).
In 3 months, say January 1st, it will be interesting to see how much you overpaid.
I was surprised to learn that this game got localized. Weiβ Schwarz seemed to have more interest from what I'd seen at conventions last year.
Well the source material for WeiB Schwarz is pretty pathetic to garner any interest in conventions IMO. It's mainly based off of Modern Non-Shonen Jump Anime/Manga series which I could really care less about now If they gave us source material based off of popular 80's and 90's Anime/Manga then sign me up.

True, but in general most decks don't really have the space to run 3 Call, much less 3 MST.
At best; it's a pointless change.
At worst; it promotes decks like Empty Jar, which is frankly the most boring deck to ever exist.
Oracle are actually super weak in the English meta atm because they don't have a large card pool. Once they get better support for cards like Silent Tom, the deck will take off because it has so much built in card advantage, and you don't even have to run more than 4 draw driggers.
Right now Kagero is probably the best deck, and ironically it's the cheapest to build. RP follows only slightly behind, and the matchups are actually pretty close, with Kagero generally coming out on top because of it's removal.
You could, however, be cool like me, say forget every trigger except Criticals, and blow people out as soon as turn 4.
Personally I believe Royal Paladin to be the strongest at least until barcgal gets banned. More than once i've declined to attack against RP in the early turns to prevent superior ride into soulsaver GG. out of the 30+ tournament games i've played, i've lost to Kagero only once and i blame that to misride >:(
Also, with kagero perfect guards at $20 and blazing flare at $25, i would not call it the most budget friendly clan. Granblue with none of their cards over $10 is much cheaper.

You must be playing against bad Kagero players, because the deck is insane and I've only dropped tournament 1 match out of 11. Not attacking is always a misplay because you're not getting the card or potential trigger (in particular, crits). Also, they'll outrace you if you don't attack just so they can't get a Blaster Blade... and there's nothing scary about BB if they aren't at 3 damage.

Blazing Flare is trash, imo. Aleph is way better.

I'm not saying that Kagero is bad, just that I think Royal Paladin is better. There's a reason that Barcgal will get banned.
Speaking in absolutes is a bad idea, especially when discussing strategy. I have won a few games based on not attacking. The thing is that RP have no reason to keep a grade 2 in their opening hand because they will always have a blaster blade on turn 2. And, yes i lose the drive check which is one card. Guarding against soulsaver is like 5+ cards?
Your opinion. Others beg to differ. Doesn't change the fact that you need 3-4 perfect guards which equates to $60-80.

Barcgal is getting banned because of a card called Young Alfred. Right now it's good but not broken.

Why would you want one less card to guard with against an SS assault? o.O
Not attacking on the first turn is always a misplay in the current meta. RPs shuffling away their level 2s is also a misplay because level 2s intercept.

And that's pretty budget. Blazing Flare really isn't that strong unless you build a full field control deck, and even then it's a lot easier to play around than double Dragonic Overlord.

Just out of curiosity, what does everyone think of Kaijudo: Rise of the Duel Masters compared to Cardfight!! Vanguard? Which TCG is better or more popular?
Kaijudo isn't even available until June, by that time, Vanguard should have already established itself in to the market. Although Bushiroad is currently struggling to meet demand overseas, if they can get some advertisment and media attention, they should do well.
To be honest, I think it's more of a demographical thing in the US and EU. Those people that are already familiar with CCGs are likely to play Vanguard (or stick with what they already play), whereas the children with no background in playing any CCGs may or may not decide pick up Kaijudo.
Depends on if they become attracted by the show. Doesn't look right to even compare these TCGs together since Cardfight Vanguard is targetting for both Children and teens while Kaijudo looks like it's just intended for kids.
I think they're both aiming towards similar, overlapping age ranges myself.
You also have to factor in appeal from members outside the target demographic, I'm in my 20's for example, and I'm pretty fanatical about Vanguard, mostly from my interest in cardgames, rather than my age.
Just came back from my local comic/game store and they have already gotten promotional stuff in. They had a kaijudo mouse pad at the front counter kind of like the magic one they already have and a poster and some window stickers all advertising the May 5th sneak peak and game. It was all art and ads we have already seen but its cool to see wotc starting to get the word out to shops.
I was talking to the manager and employee and they were both really interested in the game. Apparently some of the suppliers and different reps for some of the other gaming companies are really pumped about the game and all the marketing wotc is doing. The writers, directors and producers are all supposed to be very good and with actors like John DiMaggio the show should be a hit. I think a lot of people have really rushed to judgment based on the art direction alone. Right now it looks like this could easily become the next Avatar the last air bender.
Am I to believe that an Angel of Serenity (a 7 drop mediocre reanimation target) is going to have the SAME value as a Hallowed Fountain? 15 bucks each? Sorry, not going to happen. Not now, not ever.

I highly doubt Kaijudo will go that far. Avatar the Last Air Bender was just its own thing, never intended to tie in with any other merchandise.
I suppose we shall see though, though I think we should only really be drawing comparisons between Vanguard and Kaijudo alone, possibly Yu-Gi-Oh and Duel Masters if necessary.
The biggest complaints I've been hearing about Vanguard lately is that luck plays too much of a factor in who wins games over skill. However it's more in the premise of how you use that luck to your advantage that determines who wins games or you could play a deck like Oracle Think Tank and stack your deck for a win which in a sense promotes cheating when the cards overrule it. Of course there's deck stacking strategies in Magic: The Gathering as well with Brainstorm and Sensei's Divining Top with the new Miracle mechanic from Avacyn Restored but I'll save that for another topic.
Most matches in Vanguard ALWAYS comes down to whoever gets the lucky triggers or whoever gets their Grade 2's and 3's out first before their opponent does. Whenever you lose a game you learn from your mistakes from it and improve, in a TCG like Vanguard the only reason you would lose regardless of how good your deck is was due to not getting a trigger in time whether If it was to prevent damage from an attack or to deal damage with your Vanguard to add damage to your Opponent's Damage Zone with something like a Critical Trigger.
I've also been getting complaints about the Vanguard Anime as well, by the end of Season 1 Crunchyroll stopped streaming Japanese Subs for it mainly due to a lack of viewership and loss of interest. Turns out that a different company was trying to stream the episodes from Crunchyroll so the loss of viewership might not be entirely to blame on it. This was from what I've heard on a different forum as I don't have a source to the new company that's trying to stream the Vanguard Japanese Subs. As for the Anime itself, well it's pretty bad. People are saying it's just a 20-30 minute advertisement for the TCG itself with no real plot, no character development, and a poorly written story.
As for Kaijudo it does look like it takes a page from Duel Masters and it looks almost like an improved version of it but it's hard for me to judge it unless I've actually played the demo or bought a couple Starter Decks and actually played it out for myself. The Kaijudo Animated Series of course will appeal to Western Cartoon Audiences more than those that tune into Japanese Anime or Otaku for short. Whether If Kaijudo will bomb hard like Duel Masters will determine how well Wizards and Hasbro markets the game and If they keep at it like they have with Magic: The Gathering then things will look up possibly.
Wizards and Hasbro have been planning Kaijudo for a long while and all signs are pointing that they won't screw things up like they did before with Duel Masters. They've been waiting for Yu-Gi-Oh! to die out and the Zexal series isn't really that popular with kids and alot of the older Yu-Gi-Oh! players are tired of the Ban List being used to manipulate card prices and product in the Secondary Market. Wizards' goal is to steal the 8-14 age demographic and some Yu-Gi-Oh! players as well. The next Magic Block being the Return to Ravnica is going to sell itself so that they can focus on growing Kaijudo.

The first 3 episodes are godawful terrible in terms of writing quality. (As far as a card game tutorial goes, I found it much more useful than the two-page rulesheet, so YMMV.) IMO, the quality of the show climbs steadily upward from there. Almost all of the primary characters have actual personalities and flaws, and Aichi (the protagonist) doesn't constantly have victories handed to him on a silver platter by the bull**** miracle drive trigger mechanic. As far as plot goes, 90% of it is card game tournaments, but the more important part of the story is Aichi's character development anyway.
If you absolutely hated the Yu-Gi-Oh anime, you will probably hate Vanguard (yes, there are friendship speeches thrown into the mix of cliches). It's a show that knows its target audience. I personally enjoyed YGO (up until they started vomiting out filler arcs that didn't appear in the manga), endured most of GX, enjoyed 5D's again, and overall I enjoyed Vanguard.
Note that I personally have not played Vanguard (nor Kaijudo), and I know no one who does, so I have no claim as to whether enjoyment of the anime translates to enjoyment of the actual card game.
Well Yu-Gi-Oh! was what first got me into the TCG/CCG Genre a decade ago, and the Anime Series was really good up until GX, then it was alright with 5D's, but Zexal is just horrible. To be honest I think the Yu-Gi-Oh! Anime jumped the shark after the 1st series ended. I mean really compared to all it's spin-offs the 1st series was the best there was. Not even GX or 5D's could top it off, not even Zexal which is a Hanna-Barbera Jetson's ripoff.
I really liked Yugi Motou as the main protagonist but you could only go so far with a Ancient Egyptian backstory ya know? I was sad when Atem went back to his own time after Little Yugi beat him in their last game together. Now this was all happening when the TCG was undergoing one of the most broken stages of it's lifecycle with the Chaos decks and Yata-Garasu. I loved the Magical Scientist/Catapult Turtle Combo deck back in the day, it was Yu-Gi-Oh!'s attempt at going combo like in Magic: The Gathering.
In 2004 back when I tried out Duel Masters I realized that Yu-Gi-Oh! was getting really bad and so the Yu-Gi-Oh! deck I had at the time being a Jinzo Machine deck I pretty much gave the deck away on a whim. I may have sold it for money but probably wasn't allowed to at the time, it's been so long since then it's hard for me to remember. I still remember the days when I used to play Yu-Gi-Oh! with my friends in High School as a Junior and Senior before I graduated.

After playing Vanguard for weeks at locals, I and other experienced TCG players quickly found the game to be too luck based. Games played out almost the same every time with the only real variation being what triggers were pulled. If you enjoy archetype decks and theme support in Yugioh, than Vanguard is the game for you. If you are like me and enjoy more freedom and creativity to deck building with lots of possible card interactions and combos than Vanguard quickly becomes "Top Deck The Game" with a few different gimmicks throw in to make the clans "unique".

Hate to break it to you, but while triggers can be super sacky at times, you're not playing the game right if every game is sacky. Also, it's not necessary to run one clan. My tournament wrecking deck is dual clan with mixed triggers.
And yes, it's repetitive because decks have singular strategies and every deck wants a level 3. Nobody said it was complicated.

The first 3 episodes are godawful terrible in terms of writing quality. (As far as a card game tutorial goes, I found it much more useful than the two-page rulesheet, so YMMV.) IMO, the quality of the show climbs steadily upward from there. Almost all of the primary characters have actual personalities and flaws, and Aichi (the protagonist) doesn't constantly have victories handed to him on a silver platter by the bull****
miracledrive trigger mechanic.
