For movie/series, I would recommend the anime series Last Exile which probably falls under the genre of steampunk. The airships in the series use a lighter-than-air technology rather than steam-power to fly, but it has all of the other elements of the genre. Plus it has a really good soundtrack.
For books, I would recommend Peshawar Lancers by Stephen H Silver which is an alternate history novel about the British empire which would also probably classify as steampunk.
For games, depending on the type of games that you like, Rise of Legends is a fun steampunk RTS spinoff of the game Rise of Nations.

Peshawar Lancers is pretty good. And it's "Stirling", not "Silver".
Rise of Legends was a disappointment. Steampunk versus ancient astronauts should have been incredibly awesome, but other games just do RTS so much better.

This book is absolutely fantastic. This is a genre defining book, in fact this is written by the guy that coined the term steampunk to describe what he ans his friends were writting about. He never thought it would become the cultural phenomena it is today.
CAPTAIN SWING AND THE ELECTRICAL PIRATES OF CINDERY ISLAND by Warren Ellis
Uhg. This comic is just so good. The art style makes every panel look like its pressed wood. Fun ride with a compelling storyline, what more do you need in a comic?

Please forgive me for not accepting repetitive, linear gameplay and mediocre storytelling as marks of a timeless classic.
It does look and sound beautiful, though. Square-Enix has certainly never skimped on production values.

It's technically wind-punk, not steam punk, but really good stuff.

Does anyone know of a GRITTY WWI/WWII style Steampunk novel/movie/series?
