All it really takes is one person in your clan interested enough to play in the mafia game. It's nice if the rest of the clan is willing to help give their input via a QT chat, but that's not required.
Wheat_Grinder will be representing [The Crafters] in it.
Yo Rhand! Has [The Family] picked their clan mafia rep yet?
Well, I'll be probably be the one representing [Spirit of EDH] in it.
However, I'll let you guys know that since my laptop's been having problems with... everything, I'll be taking it to be checked and fixed and won't be having a proper access to internet for a week or so...
But, after I return, I promise I'll take care of the other Clan Competition if no one else hasn't.

Having more players in the hydra would be optional.
The positive side on playing with hydra's is activity: more people posting from one account = more activity in the thread.
Now if the goal is to have everyone's identities in the game be secret from one another as to who they are/clan affiliation via a newly created login made just for the game and players are only allowed to base a player's alignment on that game and not past meta or have conflicts/support with other players from the same clan or other clans, I'd be fine with that.
I don't know, it just feel that only you and I are actually reading this thread.
Anyways, for the next CC, I had an idea. ("Guess Who - Clans Edition")
(Note: All numbers here are just suggestions and are not set in stone)
Each participating clan chooses 4 members from their clan. Then, that clan gives other clans hints for each person, and other clans are to figure out who
is who.
Rating:
Half of the points come from figuring out who is who.
Dixit-scoring:
Clan gets 0 points if everyone or no-one guesses correctly and other get 3 points each
Clan gets 4 points if someone, but not everyone guesses correctly and those who guessed correctly get 2
Other half of the points come from other clan's ratings that are given after the answers are revealed.
These ratings are based on following criteria: Creativity: Were the hints creative? (0-5) Solvability: Was it possible to figure out who is who? (0 for totally impossible hints, 5 for well-done)
(These points do not denote CC-points, but are only to figure out who is the winner.)
Eg.
People: Bur, Chemtrails
Person #1
- is a moderator
- member of Clan Flamingo
Person #2
- plays mainly EDH and legacy
- likes Twelve Kingdoms -novels
Also, if we want to make it a tad more difficult, we could instead choose 5 people and give hints only for 4 (meaning that there would be an extra to serve as red herring) or allow each clan to ask another clan a single yes-or-no -question (and questions and answers would be public in the CC-thread), after the hints are shown but before answers...
EDIT: We could also just mix all the people, so that there is a huge list of hints and list of people, so you'd need also to figure out which clan they do belong...
I bring this idea back up for discussion.
However, few things:
- Each clan picks 2 people and we mix all the people up.
- Since we need to get somekind of total score at the end of CC (was it 0-15 scale or what? I don't recall...), I suggest 1/3 of the points come from rating and 2/3 comes from the answers (alternatively, 50-50). To achieve this, I suggest that we use Dixit-rating and then either rank the scores or set a scoretable, like this:
And then use that with the evaluations to get the final score.
How does it sound?
In example, if [REDACTED] scores 87 in answers and get 2/5 for creativity and 4/5 for solvability, they'd get (8p + 6/2p = 11p). Sorry if this doesn't make sense, I'm tired and about to go to bed...
I hope you give me some kind of feedback, so I can work on this more...

To coincide with the new clan contest scoring options, it would need to be three categories that generated between 1-5 points per category for a max possible per clan score of 15.
For instance:
Creative? (1-5 clan rated)
Solvable? (1-5 clan rated)
Correct? (Gotten by results, such as 20% right=1, all correctly guessed=5)
Update: we decided we will go for the Hydra's. This means every clan can join with any amount of participants.
We have interest of 6 clans so far. It will be a 7 person game, so I hope to attract one more clan.
@Bur: Considering scoring things are already broken into thirds by default, it would make more sense if it was 1/3 of the scoring rubric. No need to make things more complicated than necessary.
1/3 Creativity (The making)
1/3 Difficulty (The solving)
1/3 Scoring (The end results)
We've had non-clan participants to pad out the numbers before. They just don't earn contest points.
The sign-up thread is up in the mafia subforum and PM's are sent to those that voiced interest.
I hope we'll have some hydra's with more than 1 person in it
... now that I've gotten rid of my real-life problems, it's time to get back to the Clan Contest.
Few things I'd like to hear your opinions on:
1) How many people per clan? 1 minimum, 3 maximum.
2) For the scoring, I was thinking of doing a scoreboard and you'd get CC-points accoring to the board. Okay?
3) What am I exactly supposed to do? After brewing this all, I'll just be the one to whom the entries will be sent and who'll keep that thread updated?

Two or three sounds good. One is probably too few, but three is potentially too many.
Scoring is ... however you want to do it, really. We have a 5-5-5 score system in place, but as long as it breaks down into max fifteen points, it should be fine. I don't really get what you mean by a scoreboard, though.
Running a contest involves posting the contest thread, fielding questions, updating signups/rounds/results, receiving entries, and reporting the winners and their scores back to the Council for leaderboard updating (which I still need to do. Oops?)
Just a question: How many is "enough interested"?
Wheat_Grinder will be representing [The Crafters] in it.
Yo Rhand! Has [The Family] picked their clan mafia rep yet?
That way all interested members from all clans can play
[The Family] will probably be me with some others, but no one has stepped forward yet.

I can't promise they'll be good, though.
I guess it boils down to it that I need to hold the Guess Who -CC.
I posted the rules earlier, but I'll tweak 'em a bit tomorrow.

Iso is the mod, with me as co-mod.

For the guess who: I think 2 per clan is ideal.
