Hey guys. I made a nice new thread as a valentines gift for the Council.
If everybody could check that their clan's representatives are correct, that would be great. I'm fairly sure the beta changeover ate some rep titles!
Beyond that, I suppose we should get working on our first clan contest. We've had a few ideas bounced around already and a few more hinted to be in development, but I don't think anything has gained momentum yet.
While we're talking about things, I'm going to go ahead and throw out a competition idea I came up with in the shower.
Clan Quiz Night
How to Play
Each participating clan comes up with a list of ten quiz questions on a chosen topic and provides answers to them. These questions can be about anything the clan likes! Card games! Anime! ... Crafting?
All questions from each clan are collated into one huge list of questions.
Clans answer them privately and submit their answers.
The clan with the most total correct answers wins!
Not really. Personally I like to leave them up for a little while to allow for post-contest discussion, but we probably do leave them up a bit too long in all honesty.
I'm going to throw out a proposal for a contest for next year as well (a straight-up port from the Casual forums ^_^;).
Clans Deck Construction Contest
The idea is that there will be a chosen card for the contest, each clan submits a deck built around said card (this could be expanded though, up to maybe three cards/decks). After submissions each clan will rate each other clan's entry on:
Power - Can it win?
Originality/creativity - Is it cooky, funny, off the wall? Or is it just a Legacy deck with an awkward card shoehorned in?
Card-centric - How focused is it on the round's card?
I'd like to add a couple of other criteria to the judging, but those are just a start for now.
Would any of you be interested in this?
And something called "Whose Clan is it Anyway?" hinted at by the Crafters. Exciting!
Just letting you know, [Spirit of EDH]'s Clan Rep hasn't been Phil for a long time (and he hasn't been active ever since he left his place)... I'm still missing my title, but I am the Clan Rep of [Spirit of EDH].

Another take on this I'd like to throw out there, we could have each clan choose a card that represents their clan. Any card. Then, we could have a "Last Card Standing" like we did a few years ago. The criteria for each round is random questions, like "Which card would most likely be missing after a night of clubbing" or "Who's the first to lose in a straight up brawl", ect. They can be completely random and fun. Each clan then decides and the card with the most votes is out.
After that, we could do a second contest. Each clan takes their card from the previous round and builds a deck (any format or the format could be decided upon ahead of time) based on that card. The clans then vote based on criteria listed above, and add some criteria based on how well that card represents their clan.

I liked the clans deck construction idea. Especially if the participating clans picked a card each to make the deck around, then all those were randomly distributed.
I'm here to announce my retirement from MTGSalvation. I quit playing magic three years ago, My clan has been retired for a while, and I've not posted outside of the clan moderator lounge for the last few months.
It has been a good run though. I joined this community maybe 14 years ago or so; Back in MTGnews just before DG implemented these fancy new VB bulletin style forums that everyone uses nowadays. I was the 16th person to sign up to the new system...I accidentally signed up wrong and when DG went to fix it he accidentally made me an admin. So I was the communities first admin for about an hour. I remember the rush to get higher post counts for the that coveted custom tag. ...can't remember what the limit was, but I was in the running for a while with 400 posts. Of course my 8PPD could not compete with those with 20+PPD and Davinox ended up getting it first...with BLOD a close second. Oh and the debate section...I used to love debating about any topic. I once even researched the history of the World Wrestling Federation and World Wildlife Foundation just so I could participate in a debate about that recent copyright lawsuit over the WWF logo.
The Called predated all that, though I don't remember how far. At that time it was all about discussing rumors. Those juicy tidbits that Rancored Elf was able to get from the actual source long before WOTC sued him. We had some good contests back then too. Mostly card creating contests since there was still a focus on rumors. Lots of good times, some drama, good friends...then the huge drama bomb that split the community and led to the creation of MTGsalvation. I checked my profile...says that was 9 years ago. Man...has it really been that long? Seems like it was just the other day that we all came here and regrouped.
I could probably ramble on like this forever. Good friends I've lost contact with, friends that are still around, the good times with clans both retired and new. It's been a long run and a great story...but all great things come to an end and it is time for me to go.
Cheers,
Daggertooth

And I guess that I'm a lucky one for the truth of what I know. For my heart had not denied me and I have somewhere to go. I shall never be a prisoner of steel and glass and stone. If I leave, I will return again to my Rocky Mountain home.
... so, is there going to be any contest at all, in the end? Or, do we need another idea or something?
I'd like there to be, but so far we have little input and somehow even less direction. Three ideas are on the table and we're really just floundering.
In a pinch, we can run Clan Quiz Night. The overhead is negligible and it buys us time to flesh something else out.
I think that wouldn't even be a bad idea, considering that we are already in March with 0 CC done, and if recall correctly, 6 was the amount there's supposed to be per year (+ mafia?)...

Five plus mafia. If we're doing the Quiz Night, we need to find a way to score it.
That doesn't seem that much of a problem. We could either just go for the traditional way (scoring according to the amount of right answers), or we could use Dixit-scoring. Also, we could alternatively make every clan vote for their favourite set of questions (excluding their own) and those would give clans points too...
Dixit-scoring:
If no one guesses the correct answer, everyone but the one making the question gets 2 points.
If everyone guesses the correct answer, everyone but the one making the question gets 2 points.
If some people (but not all) guess the correct answer, those getting it right get 2 points and the one making the question gets 3 points.

Clan Contest? Does neither of these sound good, or what? Considering that we are already in March with no CC's this year, I'd say we are a tad behind the schedule...
What are we lacking? Why no CCs?

Normally, I'd flatter you first but allow me to just get straight to the point: You think your clan would be interested in this CC? Would you mind running it?

The deck construction idea sounds neat, but I'd rather not clunk it up with pre-construction voting. Keep it simple.

Suggesting: total correct / possible correct * 15, rounded up. Or something. Maths sucks.
Also, do we want to evaluate other clan's hint (and those being included in the score) too?
Clan Contest? Does neither of these sound good, or what? Considering that we are already in March with no CC's this year, I'd say we are a tad behind the schedule...

I can't personally run it at the moment. Uni's back with a vengeance. If nothing happens, I'll rush something at the end of the week.
I see. Too bad I can't run it either since I'm having the same problem as you: University with the tremendous amounts of work.
Has anyone seen Digi?
I will be making a new thread soon so that I can manage its first post.
