Welcome to [The Spirit of EDH]! We are a new clan dedicated to the EDH/Commander format.
The purpose of our clan is to give EDH players another place to talk about whatever Commander-related topics they want and to represent the EDH community. We are here to foster the format that we all love and introduce it to new players.
Our philosophy is that anyone can play and enjoy commander, no matter what they're looking for. We are a diverse group of players, representing a broad spectrum of play-styles. Whether you enjoy Battle Cruiser magic, Stax, Control, or Combo, you have a place here.
If you are interested in joining or have questions about [The Spirit of EDH], please PM a member of The Elder Dragon Council.
New members will be given the title "Norin the Wary" when they first join. If you are active and productive in the clan, then you will be promoted to Legendary Member status, at which time you will get the privilege to choose a legendary creature as your new clan name.
If you are inactive longer than one month or so, we will move you to the former members section.

I just posted this in a thread back in the commander section, but I figure this is a story that you all would appreciate here.
Let me tell you a story about a friend of mine who built a Karona Ally Tribal deck. He was so proud of his creation and couldn't wait to show all of us. We started a four player game and he managed to get Karona out on turn four. He swung for a pretty big attack that didn't kill anybody, but it sure looked impressive.
He was so pleased. I can still remember that innocent smile of his and the twinkle in his eye.
Then three players took control of Karona in a row and swung at him for 8 each. He died from his own commander's damage, and somehow had not seen that coming. His dreams were obliterated, hopes dashed, and that twinkle in his eye has never returned. He is a bitter old man who is fighting a decent into alcoholism.
Moral of the story: Don't build Karona without a way to protect yourself.

Judging by the sound of it, I'd say it was either Dechs himself or someone like Dracilic.
You're probably right. I don't really see either Phil or Jivan building a Karona, False God deck. But maybe that is what made them into the player that we know today? It plays out like the Batman origin story, in my head.

And no, it wasn't me. There's a monthly meetup I sometimes attend where one player is notoriously bad. We were happy he started playing EDH because his decks got smaller. They even got better, by virtue of the fact that he couldn't put multiples of bad cards in the deck anymore. The Karona deck was his best work, if only he wouldn't cast the general.

I didn't have a chance to read through a lot of the old thread. What's this about?
Also out of curiosity, do you all tend to only buy the individual cards you want out of new sets for EDH decks or do you buy booster packs/boxes as well? I've been doing both so far since I'm just getting into MTG in general but was wondering how people who have been playing for a longer time go about it.

My friend dared me to make an EDH deck that could win with Battle of Wits. I put it in Pristaxcontrombmodruu because that already runs Opalescence.
