Actually, sending from the US to Canada is cheaper than sending to another address in the US. At least that's how it was when I was in Cali.
Also, I didn't bring any of my cards with me to Japan, since I'm only here until June (for now).I don't mind getting some Japanese boosters and swapping with those, but the set choices will probably be limited...
Don't they sell any singles there in Japan? You could also just for example buy few normal Japanese Kodama's Reaches and I'm pretty sure it'd be a nice present for someone else.
Also, just to be sure, I'm going to ask a mod that this whole thing is okay, since I just want to be sure and don't want every single clan member getting a warning/infraction...

Good call. It didn't even cross my mind that its an offence to 'trade' outside the correct forum.

I actually had a Jhoira of the Ghitu deck I was trying to deck out with Japaneses cards, but it ended up getting torn apart to make my current Sakasheima deck.
Just wondering if anyone would be interested in doing a Secret Santa type thing. I mean, I don't celebrate Christmas, but I like the idea of doing a card swap. Its a bit early, but if we did decide to do it, it would take quite a bit of planning.
I was wondering if anyone would be interested in a secret santa thing? All we need are a list of participants, each person randomly assigned a person and then we all mail a magic card (value depends on your generosity) to that person. Takes a top loader an envelope and a stamp, I've mailed many magic cards like that and never had a problem. They can take a while to set up and have in the mail and stuff before Grixis day.
Funny enough, I just finished my Lazav deck and want to build around him.. I think I just like stealing though. I'm seriously contemplating building a White/Blue/Black deck based on various (and most effective) methods of theivery and calling it "I Wanna Touch Your Deck"..
On a more clan related note, I am churning up ideas in my head for clan related stuff I can do.. and I've found an idea I like, gonna play around with it.. then work on it a bit before I discuss it to much. Obviously it involves my minor photoshop abilities.
I'm also worried about shipping costs, I've never sent cards in the mail to anyone, but sending them to someone in Canada HAS to be a little pricey... And I have like no money to spare.
If you call 1.50 tops pricey then yes, otherwise no. I'm in I love things like this.
It just occurred to me, but since most of us are actually from different sides of the world, how about post cards? I mean, we'd send post cards along with the present.
*loves postcards*
EDIT: The current answer to the legality is "yes and no". There are some issues and Rai promised to discuss the whole thing with all other admins to come up a solution for this. As I feared, the whole thing involves stretching many, many rules... but do not yet let your hopes down. There still might be a way for this.
I can't do the Santa thing, sorry. Now i'm in Canada, without any card and the nearest LGS is like 50 km from here. And i don't drive :/ But i find it a nice thing, and i think you have to do it!
Just asking, but why The Crafters have a 17000-post topic if the top is 1000?
However, from the official banlist of today, Sideboard rule is officialy banned from Commander. No one cares, i think. At least, i don't care.

The way I understood, the whole thing would be near the Christmas, at the end of November, so if you return before that you can still participate...
@madhatter: Japanese numbers are void of logic. I mean the whole piece-numbers are just lacking any kind of sense. Ichi - Hitotsu, Ni - Futatsu, San - Mittsu...
Also, I finally managed to kick myself in the butt and edited and so all the pictures from Tracon. Now I finally got a picture of me in my yukata and some other nice pictures. (Ponies and more ponies.)

I can get you some post cards from my area, though they will most-likely be underwhelming.
If you call 1.50 tops pricey then yes, otherwise no. I'm in I love things like this.
That's actually not too bad... But are we doing this like an actual secret santa, or are we going to discuss with the person what they might like first? (so we don't get them something pointless that they would never use) Because I wouldn't want to be sent something that I either already have or would never use... I'm not saying we should just tell them what they're getting, but they should at least know some (affordable) ideas on things the recipient would prefer.
That's my two cents anyways. I'm in if you guys are though.
I'm working on posting the third round right now. It'll be here in a few minutes.
Anyone want to organize an EDH pod tonight? I got the magic bug and I can't get rid of it.
---
Round 3!
Task 1: Three noncreature reprints of any rarity. If you have made a mythic rare reprint in rounds 1 or 2, you cannot choose a mythic rare to reprint.
Task 2: Create a rare legendary creature card along the following parameters.
If your Commander is one or two colors, this creature must be mono-colored.
If your Commander is of a three-color shard, this creature must be enemy dual-colored.
If your Commander is of a three-color wedge, this creaure must be ally dual-colored.
If your Commander is five colors, this creature must also be five colors.
Task 3: Create a rare legendary Equipment or a rare Equipment with "legendary" in its rules text.
Deadline will be midnight CDT September 24, 2013, before Tuesday becomes Wednesday.

I'd rather go to an izakaya and karaoke (non-sober ) every week. If ya know what I mean..

Ooooh... if you don't like that, you're gonna hate kanji. Each character has at least 2 pronunciations. Actually, this is the reason there are the 2 number systems: hi-fu-mi/ ichi-ni-san. Essentially, you can think of the kun-yomi ("Japanese Reading") as the "native" way of saying stuff, before Chinese phonetic influence. (I'm not going to get all grad-studenty to question the epistemology of Japanese linguistics or writing, though.) The on-yomi ("Chinese Reading") is the Japanese approximation of Chinese pronunciation for the same characters.
Typically, the on-yomi is used when 2+ kanji are juxtaposed and read as a single word, while the kun-yomi is used when the character is written alone with okuri-gana (basically, the rest of the sounds of the word written in hiragana).
In any case, the hi-fu-mi system (kun-yomi) is mostly used for general counters (up to 10) and number of days (up to 10). Pretty much everything else is ichi-ni-san (on-yomi).
It just occurred to me, but since most of us are actually from different sides of the world, how about post cards? I mean, we'd send post cards along with the present.

Yeah, I got all that on our 1st lecture that had 1½h talk about the history of Japanese (the language). From what I've heard, learning kanjis is a pain in the arse, but in the end it's the most rewarding thing on the course...
Also, I'm still trying to get an approval from another admin, but how should we set the maximum value for the gift. Are we just going to use the same site or how, since the card prices differ quite much in EU and USA...

The other question is who is participating... it should go without saying that only participants in the "secret Santa" should send/receive cards (of the postal or magic variety).
My thought is to just use tcg.player as a guide. So if we were to set, say, a $5 max, no card should exceed that value based on tcg.player avg. pricing. This would include foil pricing as well.
Jokes aside, the $5 limit seems fair. I still think we should make requests to our sender, just so they get an idea of what you might enjoy as a gift (Sorry, but I hate foreign cards/things that I will never use... that's just me). Again, not just tell them what to get, but at least a suggestion.

What we should do is post a public wishlist. You don't want to spoil the surprise of knowing who your getting a gift from.

Yeah, that makes more sense. So you don't know who your secret santa is, you just post what you want and your secret santa can just pick something off of the list. I like this idea, I'm in!
