@RG Very nice. where'd you get an intro pack before the prerelease? That Traumatize looks like fun in your Lazav EDH deck. I like it in Melek, Izzet Paragon EDH, him + Resonator + Dual Casting/Reverberate/Twincast/any combo of the 3 + Rings of Brighthearth = mill for craptons! I agree with you from before, sometimes it's more fun doing something just absolutely nutty than winning. :-D
Just some of my Dimir "connections" from Bane Alley.
But seriously, you'd be surprised how some store owners couldn't care less when all they really want to do is make money. And they sure as heck can't blame me if they put a Bonescythe Sliver in their sell box for 2 dollars and a Legends not chronicles Concordant Crossroads for $5. This is also the same store that sold Mondern Masters for 15 a piece right off the bat. Also going to do a massive trade with the owner tomorrow so that's more than likely going to end either in my favor or for my EDH decks; I just hate the idea of parting with my Sliver Queen since its on the "reserve list" and From the DarkMaze of Ith.
Suggestions?
Also Traumatize then Keening Stone is a hilarious way to end the day after I suggest a sandwich with Bacon of Tomorrow, Tomato, Moon Sage and Mycosynth Lettuce, all on a Porcelain Legionnaire plate along with a bowl of CornFlux, all part of this complete beatdown.
Though with Traumatize in standard, I'm going to try to get into standard with Dimir. I have an idea and I'll share it later.
@Tera Rephrase my question to, how does that work for split cards? Can I cast both sides?
Let's start with Isochron Scepter and how you stick split cards into it. Iso asks for an 'instant with CMC 2 or less'. Let's look at how a split card answers the question of 'what is your mana cost'.
708.2. In every zone except the stack, split cards have two sets of characteristics and two converted mana costs. As long as a split card is a spell on the stack, only the characteristics of the half being cast exist. The other half’s characteristics are treated as though they didn’t exist.
and
708.6a An effect that performs a positive comparison (such as asking if a card is red) or a relative comparison (such as asking if a card’s converted mana cost is less than 2) involving characteristics of one or more split cards in any zone other than the stack gets only one answer. This answer is “yes” if either side of each split card in the comparison would return a “yes” answer if compared individually.
Going from these rules, it's perfectly fine to stick a card like Research // Development into an Isochron Scepter, because it asks the question 'does this instant cost 2 or less', to which one side of R+D answers Yes. When you then activate the ability to create the copy and decide to cast it, you make all choices necessary to cast the card, such as determining the side of a split card, and you can of course choose the Development side.
Now, we throw Fuse into the mix. The important rule here is ...
Fuse is a static ability found on some split cards (see rule 708, "Split Cards") that applies while the card with fuse is in a player’s hand. If a player casts a split card with fuse from his or her hand, the player may choose to cast both halves of that split card. This choice is made before putting the split card with fuse onto the stack. The resulting spell is a fused split spell
So, if you get a Fuse card into an Isochron Scepter (such as Far // Away), you get to choose either side to play, but you're not allowed to Fuse, because it's not in your hand.
Now, the Arcanist holding a split card. We activate the ability and ask imprinted card 'hey, what's your mana cost', and get the typical double answer of the split card. Meaning ...
708.5. An effect that asks for a particular characteristic of a split card while it’s in a zone other than the stack gets two answers (one for each of the split card’s two halves).
With an imprinted Alive // Well, you get your question answered with '1 and 4', giving you a total of 5.
Now for the Arcanist/Resonator interaction, allowing the Arcanist to hold two cards. Thanks to the new rule, Arcanist will ask the question 'hey, what's your mana cost?', gets, in the case of Silence and Hidden Strings, the answer '1 and 2', sum up, get 3 - and get to copy/cast both, too.
@Tera Yeah, between the rules change, Fuse, and the Resonator, it made it confusing for me. Thank you. How come you aren't a higher lvl judge? You really know your stuff, as well as how to explain stuff.
@Digi Whoa dude, that sucks! Sorry to hear that, and right on prerelease weekend. Hope that works out easily. Did you even know about the tickets? I've seen, on many occasion, they "mailed" it, and you find out when you get arrested. On a better note, the SCGIQ on August 10th could happen for me, and I was just told about a Grand Prix in Detroit coming up (?) and I'm there. We could meet up at one/both of those. Asheroth, you too if you have time. I don't know if there's anyone else from the area, I'm not leaving anyone out, I'm just not sure who is some kind of local.
Prerelease results: 1 - 4 with a bye. Tons of removal, not enough finishers. Changed the deck 3 times to no avail. In retrospect I had enough Flyers/intimidate/unblockables to make a decent run. Trying not to force Dimir bit my prerelease, chewed it up and spit it out.
Pretty good haul, if I do say so myself. Oh, and I raffle won another playmat, Gwyllion Hedge-Mage art, I swear the store owners do it on purpose. DGM Pre, I got an Overgrown Tomb art playmat.

I'm going for L2 next year. Had a big break from judging and renewed only last winter.
@ 2headed tournament: went 2-2 with a buddy. I ran G/W Slivers, he was U/R flyers. Lost to double mana screw and to Trading Post. Won to double strike Scourge of Valkas (firebreathing + Fireshriker = tech!) and to having a ton of fliers.

To be fair, the Sliver templating change completely eradicated the awesome 2HG strategy available in TSP block.
ME, What's up? Nice to hear from you.
Yeah, R&D agreeing to change slivers to be board specific ruined new slivers. On a brighter note, to simplify for new players, they are changing "other ~ creatures you control get/have" to "~ creatures you control get/have". That way stat bonuses always equal the total of applicable creatures giving the bonus. So while Slivers become slightly weaker, and lose strategic value(as well as Plague Sliver), tribal gets better and Lords will self pump.

Thanks to the Traumatize I pulled the other day, it gave me an idea on how to make a somewhat decent mill deck work that might stand a chance in standard. I honestly doubt it but I think it's worth testing. I built the deck assuming M13 has cycled out just to see how it would work.
Played it with a friend who had a simple Rakdos deck and did well enough once I stopped doing misplays and seems to work if I can get my land down and do a quick mill right at the start. Breaking/Entering and Duskmantle Seer are my backup in case it takes too long but it's definitely needs more playtesting and Lazav in the Sideboard.
Whoo! Sharuum + Master of Etherium + Isperia + Tezzeret the Seeker + Ethersworn Canonist = Relentless Rats, Doran, and Kresh Die. Guys, I think I'm falling for Sharuum.
@RG Why wouldn't you run Drownyards? They don't cycle out for months. Jace MA gives you a free mill 10, and is only about $8, you could probably run 2. And Consuming Aberration progs mill like crazy. Hold a Rogue's Passage, let him get in kill range, drop the passage for the turn, turn it, turn him, hold 3 mana for a Counterspell.

Drownyards take 4 mana to use and 4 mana is my end game; I'll never use it effectively and Duskmantle Guildmage does similar for the same mana. It would be a thing for Entering but not worth it. Jace is gonna have to be a card I need to get and figure out where to put them and Consuming Aberration.

The thing about Drownyards is, that mana you were holding for Psychic Strike and didn't use, goes into a drownyard and mills three, then you move to your untap step. I've seen Duskmantle Guildmages run, and they're easy to ignore. Plus, it's easier to kill a creature than a land. If you take out them, and run 2 and 2 Jacr and Aberration, you'll mill faster. And, more importantly you have 3 playsets of GY removal(cremate, Vile, and Beckon), with 6 Counterspells(only 2 noncreature), and 4 bounces. I can see, bounce then scatter, but Savage Summoning means you HAVE to kill things that hit the field. I like Aetherize over Rift overloaded anyway, but fast aggro is gonna tear you up. Mostly, you have NO draw at all. This looks like a build that could run Pilfered Plans. It's a midway between a Dimir Divination and a Double Thought Scour.

Well, I compared it to :symr::symg::symw: because :symr::symg: or :symr::symw: might not be as bad as the other but either :symr::symg::symw: or is definitely worse. Dimir can play :symu::symb::symg:(which is just ridiculous) :symr::symb::symu: or :symw::symu::symb: in 3 color, two color is optimal at :symu::symb:, and mono or have a common enemy in :symg:. Therefore assuming alone is awful, :symr::symg: or :symg::symw: can get a half pass, and :symr::symg::symw: is too many allies for to have.
So which is worse?

No, I mean to do Obz Aid twice while it's cast the first time. Reverberate on Arcanist would work, but it's weak without just hard casting it.
