As you're probably aware, there's been a lot of drama over the last few days regarding MTGS and our place in it. We've discussed what we want to do here and, using that information, the Council has decided to the following:
1. The official Clan thread will be moved to MTG Community - our Clan area can be found here. We felt that, after talking to the staff of MTG Community, it would be a better enviroment for our clan to grow in.
2. In a week's time, I will ask the MTGS Clan mod team to move the FoS thread to the archives and remove us from the Clan HQ - this should give us all the time we need to port all relevant content over to our new home.
Anyone who wants to join the Exodus, please follow the link, create an account and feel free to start posting - if you don't - well, it was fun and best of luck.
Also, if you are going to join us, please refrain from creating as much drama as possible on your way out - we can't all be as badass as Dane.
We've got a new home brothers! So pack your **** and let's go!
Welcome all to the
Fires Rf Salvation
Who are we? We're the Fires of Salvation, of course! We're members with one thing in common: we love all things R. From the lowest Task Mage to the highest Fire Lord we're passionate about playing with fire.
Why are we here? We're here to watch the world burn! Well... mostly we're already burning up the Standard Competitive forum, but like all fires, we need to spread...

The only requirement to becoming or staying a Probationary Member is that you post up at least once per FoS Clan thread to let us know you're interested and still active.
Tier 2 - Full Members - Once you've shown you're committed to the Clan through regular posting and/or contributions to the Clan thread (things like designing a sig/banner or participating in Clan challenges show that you're invested) you'll be moved up to full membership. Any member Tier 2+ will be able to view the threads in that section, but only Tier 4 will have the ability to post.
Want to join? It's easy - just post in this thread that you want to join and what attracted you to our bunch in the first place – that’s it! There will be a probationary period where we'll make sure you're a good fit here (don't worry, we're not too picky) and then you're in.
The board is just as relaxed. Want to talk about decks you're brewing? Cool. Tournament reports? Awesome. Your kids starting school? That's fine. Just saw the most ballin' movie? No spoilers. Basically, talk about whatever.
Though, you should note that it is considered propper to follow the guidlines set forth by FoS member Dane when posting:
Posts worthy of FoS shall contain no less than three of the following, preferably more:
- References to masturbation, and the cessation thereof. A count of the number of days since commencement of said cessation is worth bonus points.
- References to Firefly. Spoilers are frowned upon.
- Complaints about Vexing Devil, and the proponents of said card, who insist it is the greatest expenditure of red mana since Lightning Bolt.
- Off hand reference to male genitalia. ANY reference to male genitalia will suffice.
- Dick fencing, while a reference to male genitalia, is entirely in its own category, and may be used alongside general references to get your quota of three per post.
- Telling redthirst he's pretty. (He isn't, but he likes hearing that he is.)
- Any well thought out, documented, and supported argument for a given card/neat trick in MtG. "Because it's working super well at my backwater LGS's FNM" is not appropriate support.
I miss anything? (red is totally pretty, btw.)

redthirst is redthirst, fifth Horseman of the Apocalypse. He was the leader of the Fires of Salvation, the only clan I'm aware of to get modded off the forums so hard they made their own forums.
Degenerate? Sure. Loudmouth? You bet. Law abiding? No ****ing way.

Seems win-more to me. If you already have a double striking dude getting through, you're probably already winning. Also instant speed removal in response to equipping makes you lose turns without building board presence
Except that instant-speed removal could have just killed whatever guy you would have dropped otherwise. The big difference is that your equipment still exists and can go onto the next guy you drop. Equipment is one of the few things we can do that survives against board wipes and removal.
Of course, I only run 1 dagger in my deck, because I agree that creatures are strong enough (usually) on their own.
From the last thread, a response I still think can help spark discussion:

Mostly, I don't truck with Equipment that isn't super busted, but +3/+0 on creatures that have First Strike/Double Strike and Vigilance in a meta that's slam-packed with creatures is a little harder to ignore.
Good enough to play? Don't know.
Good enough to test? I think so.

Here is a pair of articles about Legacy Goblins that I really enjoy; though it is of course a very different deck, it can be a good way to wrap your mind around playing an aggressive deck. Very general ideas, but still applicable to playing red. I have a few more good legacy red articles that I'll dig up at some point.

Truefire Paladin is a nice enough card to make me reconsider Boros again. I love the vigilance, the sunbreathing and the conditional first strike. He is useful by himself and with many of the other Boros cards he becomes nuts.
Regarding the equipment discussion from earlier I like rancor in naya since it is virtual equipment, it survives wraths and creature death, it costs to reapply, etc. Silver-Inlaid Dagger could be interesting in a Boros humans deck as a virtual rancor, but the lack of trample is pretty rough.
I was poking around at simic aggro but I was under the misapprehension that Drakewing Krasis had evolve which makes him awesome. But lacking evolve that card is weak. And it turns a deck of simic (or BUG) aggro from a flying nightmare into disappointment for me.
I think Simic is one or two evolve creatures from becoming insane so I await the full spoilers. I really want a nice CMC3 or less flier with evolve to go along with cloudfin raptor.
I guess it is time to go back to brewing Boros humans and seeing how I want the mana base to work. I want silverblade so I need to be able to hit WW on T3. This makes the deck whiter than I am used too and I need to brew a bit to find good candidates.
Mostly, I don't truck with Equipment that isn't super busted, but +3/+0 on creatures that have First Strike/Double Strike and Vigilance in a meta that's slam-packed with creatures is a little harder to ignore.

Equip 2 is pretty expensive and a huge tempo loss if the creature dies, which is why I'd not run more than two daggers. Of course, Civic Saber is another nice option if we play a lot of multi-colored jank.
I actually built this GW double strike deck for lulz one time and blew someone out on turn three. Really janky and not competitive, but very hilarious.
Hey everybody, I'm sorry I haven't been around much the last couple of weeks, but it has been one hell of a time to be me.
Last week I managed to catch the flu and then I had to fly around the country for internship interviews. Then, this week, I managed to develop a bacterial upper-respiratory infection, while classes started (meaning I've had to teach and do clinical work without much of a voice). I've also got more interviews next week...
BUT, there seem to finally be a few playable Boros cards floating around. I actually like the ball lightning variant, even if it does cost four. The paladin may actually be playable as well, but he is a bit more mana-intensive than I like. I'm also a fan of the gruul guildmage.
So far, I'm still a bit unimpressed with GTC.
Also, I like the new pun.

I kinda want to validate this line of play I did earlier. Since this is not exactly red, I'd post it here instead since we're all into strategy meeting right? This is also in a sealed environment:
What to make him discard?
I chose the Divine Verdict. Sure it's a 4-drop, but it's most likely that he isn't packing more than 1 of them in his deck. If he has multiple I took care of at least one. Also, he is likely to use the Verdict later when he hits his 4th land. My hand has Serra Avenger, which is a good 4-drop. I can worry about the equipments later because they will make the opponent at least spend some mana before equipping it. I'd rather conserve my creatures and removal is a scarce resource in limited.
We eventually reached this board state, which is in my favor and he just didn't know it yet.
He attacked next turn with a 7/7 probably hoping that I don't block it. He got verdicted, then he equipped the Kitesail on his Guardians. Draw a Divine Favor, equip it on Serra Avenger. I attacked with both Serra Avenger and Primal Clay, and he blocks Primal Clay. Show of Valor on Clay and he concedes on his next draw.

It would probably depend on how much removal I was running, but since you're BW you probably have more than enough to draw into. Divine Verdict was the right call.

Given his hand compared to yours, binning the removal as you did makes the best sense to me. You have no idea what he's going to draw into, but you know that you have evasion to get around him so leaving him with a way to kill an evasive creature sets you up for a big tempo hit. I'm no master strategist, but I'd have played as you did.

So I'm going through my old box of cards that I salvaged from my folks' this Christmas, and I found my old DCI card. I go on the interwebs to see what info I can find on myself, and it asks for DCI number and password. "Password? I don't remember having no password." I head into the FAQs where I read all about activation codes and how that didn't exist before and how to get one, but I also find this:
My DCI / RPGA number has less than 10 digits. Can I still use this number?
Since we started distributing DCI and RPGA nubmers, the number of digits in these numbers has continued to increase. Numbers issued with fewer than 10 digits have been converted to a 10-digit number.
Blablabla
NOTE: Any unissued 9-digit RPGA membership applications will no longer work and should be discarded.
My DCI # has 8 digits Man I'm feeling old tonight.
With all of the Human-themed Boros decks being brewed, Human Frailty is going to show up in a lot of sideboards of anything running black mana. If R/W Humans becomes a dominant deck, which I suspect it will, then Frailty and Ultimate Price are good hate for it.
