I like all of the above. I also like Dragon Engine (I'm pretty biased about Anson Maddocks). I also think we need to think either very slick or possibly Chibi style to make a mascot. Then we need to decide if we're going to present it like a logo (thing "side of a football helmet") or costume.
Hmmm.
Chibi. Chibi is a little overdone. I could probably google 'chibi robot Niv-mizzet' and get a good picture... No, no I can't. Anyway, chibi is for the [toycrafters]. We're the Izzet; sleek, metallic and exploding (actually, exploding anything) is what people know us for.
A mascot should generally be athropomorphised, I believe...:-/ A steaming pipe might be in character for us, but shows none of our uniqueness, IMHO.

I dunno about anthropomorphizing a dragon; that could prove more disastrous than the Guidpact incident with Kos. What about just a giant, overly-geared, steam-powered robot weird? It covers pretty much all of our bases, and we'd only have to imagine what it would be in the shape of. Perhaps just an amorphous blob with gears running the internal systems? The weird could even be see-through so we can see the gyrating madness within....it could even have an electrical field radiating around it! Or is that too much?

I didn't mean having the entire thing as a big copper pipe! It'd still be a dragon but with the metal, like, I dunno, coming out of the shoulders or have it replace the ears or even the tail.
Best example I can think of? Heatmor from Pokemon Black/White.

@Clem: maybe we can knock this year out of the park?
I sure hope so. We haven't won since the year before I joined so it'd be nice to finally take it down one year.
I'll hopefully be able to contribute a little more now that my life is sort of settling down (as much as it possibly can, at least) and I have electricity and internet. Two days after my internet got turned on, my electricity was shut off for non-payment. Since the person who lived here before me obviously wasn't paying and I was trying to free-roll the electric bill for as long as possible. Probably the worst $X I've ever saved, heh. I was using my menorah+left over Hanukkah candles for light until tonight lol.
Things have been pretty rough recently. A lot of people have left for various reasons. But I encourage everyone to hang in there. We will pull through.

I'm in favour of a steam-punk dragon. That would be BA.

I see what you mean. Its literally got a tail pipe lol.
Edit: I see its part creative writing. If no one else is up for it, I can give it a shot once we get settled on a mascot.
Anyone else Pre-releasing this weekend? I'm going to do my best to outdo the last one where I stayed up for about 30+ hours playing non-stop magic and drinking way too much caffeine. The goal for this weekend is at least 5 tournaments and enough product do draft with my friends until Avacyn Restored drops, lol.

He's a steampunk anteater! Sweet!!
I also like Clem's ideas. And I'm asking my girlfriend for help as I type this... just started with, "Um..."
EDIT: She said, "Get back to me when you have an idea. I don't want to help with the decision-making process." I take this to mean, "Sure, I'll help."
EDIT2: Can a few of you check and reply to your PM's from me? Take a look if you haven't already. TIA
I was just wondering guys - do you read books often? I used to read a loooot like a year ago and now it looks like my habit is back in full-force. It started with 1984, continued with Steve Jobs' biography and now Alchemist by Paulo Coelho. And Nick Cave with The Death of Bunny Munro is in the queue, Neuromancer and Brave New World after it.
Not as often as I should. The last real book I read was for work (although it was good). I read a lot of manga and mtg articles for the most part.
Nivvium, the Shadow of the Firemind
During the last days of the Guildpact, senior members of the leaderless Izzet League, attempted to replicate the Firemind. Working in secret, they built a mizzium frame, a construct designed to think like the Firemind, to follow and lead them to their parun.
As they began to add mana, the construct drained several of them dry, transforming not into a dragon construct, but a large and sentient weird, made up of mizzium constantly being broken down and repaired in a sea of mana. While considered the greatest success of the post-Guildpact Izzet, Nivvium, as the being dubbed itself, refuses to reveal the location of either Nivix or the Firemind because 'Daddy told me not to.'
Dislikes
1) Flying
2) Fire
3) Goblins
4) Experiment Kraj
5) Ghosts
Description: a blue gelatinous mass, like other weirds, except with a dragon-shaped metallic mask/skull supported by a 'neck'. Main body supported by four pillar-like metal dinosaurian legs. A 'tail' extends from the opposite side of the main body. Metal pieces arranged in and around the body give impression of armor/skeleton.

This is pretty awesome. I'd had the idea of a weird floating around in the back of my head for a couple of days now, but this puts any ideas I had of applying it to shame.
Unless there are objections, can we go with this? I dig.

The story is nice, I just don't like our mascot being one of the things that our clan constructs primarily to do work too hazardous/menial for more important beings to do. Though its definitely not something anyone is going to expect from us.

I'm getting more back into reading right now because of school; and not just school books. I still have a ton of magic books to finish after I get done with "Life and How to Survive It", by John Cleese.

I'll give it a shot either tonight or tomorrow. Since all of my plans fell through (as usual), I didn't make it anywhere outstanding or go on an adventure this weekend, so I've got time to kill. Fortunately I was able to hang out and play EDH with some friends so it wasn't just sleep all day like usual. My favourite play was casting Mana Drain on a Court Hussar just to get enough mana to cast Enchanted Evening, Aura Thief and Krosan Grip in one turn. I love taking all the things.

So I obviously wasn't able to hit a PR. Did anyone else make it and if yes, how'd it go?
Well, this card is silver-bordered, like the Un-sets, which it's illegal in every format except kitchen table, and people will stop playing you with Nivvium in the mix. It's almost as bad as Iona, Shield of Emeria, and will have an apprpriate mana cost. And anyway, it's just another little extra to help us win the MascotCCL. How's the picture coming along?
