Yeah. New Nivvy requires a completely very different build. I'm going to start devising a way to abuse him this weekend. I like that Niv-Mizzet demands that we do something different... as way to prove our genius? Challenge accepted.

With RtR spoiler abound, the Izzet has been on my mind.

The new Niv-Mizzet is absolutely sick! I don't know if it's better than the original one though. But both are awesome.

The Golgari planeswalker is also cool, so I'm hoping the Izzet one is just as good if not better.

Izzet unofficially (sorta) has Dack Fayden, but he's a little lame and he's only in the comics. I'm actually surprised he wasn't in RTR.

Gideon looks like he'll be in Boros, and one of the designers insinuated that he would be. I like Gideon, but I don't like him in Boros... I'm fickle, what can I say?

I could see both a izzet and a selesnya planeswalker in sinker. I certainly hope that the izzet one is good.I am extremely happy about the quality of the izzet cards spoiled so far. our charm is awesome, dracogenius is amazing, and our prerelease promo is really good. a shame that jund is going to destroy standard.........

Hey everyone!! How is everyone doing? I got my Izzet vs Golgari the other day, and I'm in love with it, especially Jarad. I just made a Commander deck with him and it's just awesome!!!

I grabbed up an Izzet vs. Golgari and updated my Niv-Mizzet EDH. Wonderful things happened, probably not as a result, but I'm gonna go ahead and credit the new cards for the god-hand I drew afterwards

Sorry I haven't posted since my introduction. Work and life got really busy. Anyway...

I love the spoiled card Cyclonic Rift. I feel like Overload as a mechanic can help give Izzet decks even better longevity. The Overload costs are finely tuned for multiplayer. They seem to coincide with the the time that the opponents get restless watching an Izzet deck setting up.

SURPRISE!!!! Everyone's permanents (other than lands) go back to their hands...

So Epic Experiment is pretty epic. It's Genesis Wave (kinda) for Izzet, and I heart that so much. :3 I think it might make it in my Niv-Mizzet deck. I don't think it'd be too bad in Standard, either. Not that I play standard, but whatever.

Sooo. Counterflux. I like it. Izzet is getting a lot of counters, I'm noticing. 3 (or 4) for a counter is a little high, but it's solid in EDH for decks that have the privilege of using the Izzet colours. It's also pretty solid as part of the uncounterable cycle. And it's a nice use of the Overload mechanic. Overall, I like it.

Agh. So I've been on a little break from Magic since the MtG celebration on Saturday. After the mini masters tourny, I'd gone over to a friend's house for EDH and had two pretty good games. It was too much for one day though. @.@;

Anywho, at the celebration, I talked to my LGS owner about the RTR prerelease because I was excited about the sets that you get for the guild you choose. So I was a bit disappointed when he told me that instead of doing the guild sets, he's going to have players draft 6 RTR boosters and allow a 5 minute trading period before deckbuilding. His reasoning: too many people will want a certain guild (specifically Golgari), he'll run out of stock, and people will get angry. Maybe he's right, but I think people who play later events will understand and compromise (c'mon, no one only likes just one guild...) Anyways, I really, really want to get the promo Hypersonic Dragon and all the goodies from the prerelease sets, but I don't want to do more than one event (because I don't have enough money >_>) I don't want to abandon my LGS, but I don't want to pay $30 for a complete crap-shoot when other people are guaranteed certain cards or colours. Plus, I don't like the idea of trading during a draft because I get the feeling that a lot of people will just trade for money cards or spec cards. (Yeah..I don't think too much of the players at this store...) Is anyone else's LGS not using the guild promo sets or worried about limited supply of sets? I'm just curious about how widespread this concern may be.

Epic Experiment is unquestionably awesome. Storm is the strategy with which the card seems to work best, obviously. I personally see in a lot of potential for my Nivvy (Firemind) EDH, but then again, I tend to look for the EDH usability of cards

Actually, the entire set looks really good. I think I'll go back to playing Standard with this set... better stock up on Snapcasters, eh? I'm torn between playing Izzet wackiness or Azorius control (that's always the problem, though ). Maybe Izzet aggro-control? That 1-drop elemental is uber-abusable and the counters in this set seem to favor Izzet players :3 I don't really like the detain mechanic that Azorius has, and I love me some of the Izzet overload mechanic... I guess the decision is easy, then >_<;

IMO the cost for the overload cards are way too high . And you can splash the good azorius cards in the izzet deck . (eg judges familiar )

Hmm quick ques , does nivmagus elemental "counter" the instant or sorcery you are exiling if you use nivmagus ability?

Overload is good because it gives you the option of a stronger spell in the late game, when you would need it. It's not like you have to cast a card for its Overload cost, though.

Nivmagus elemental exiles a spell you cast from the stack. It doesn't counter it; the spell ceases to exist. This is good for when you get countered because you can just exile your spell (so the opponent's counter fizzles/is wasted) and make the elemental stronger.
