I consider myself a Johnny and a Vorthos. One interesting trait that I have which doesn't really fit into any of the profiles is that I enjoy the creative art of deckbuilding more than I enjoy Magic gameplay. Just slightly more, and just since recently. But often nowadays I'll have a blast building some crazy deck and then have a "meh" experience playing it, even if it wins consistently. Anyone else feel this way?
Oh wow, so I'm not the only one that feels this way?
It really is odd, but I'd say deck building is just as enjoyable for me as actually playing a game of Magic. I'm not sure why this is, maybe because of the creative aspect of it. But man, nothing is more satisfying than building a deck and watching it "work" in action the way you intended it to. Makes you feel (at least it does me) good about yourself and your abilities to create decks.
How about Aether counters? Aether is a type of energy within the blind eternities which is used for summoning creatures, which to me makes sense flavor wise if we stick to the name Blind Eternities.
Although, if another name works better for either the counters or the night side I'm happy to use it.
I think Aether Counters would definitely work well with the flavor.
So i believe our final card will be:
Planeswalker's Path
Land {MR} t: Add 1 to your mana pool. ,t: Put an aether counter on Planeswalker's Path. Then, if there are four or more aether counters on Planeswalker's Path, you may transform it.
// The Blind Eternities
Legendary Land {MR} t: Add one mana of any color to your mana pool. ,t: Remove all aether counters from The Blind Eternities, then put that many loyalty counters on target planeswalker.
When you no longer control any planeswalkers, transform The Blind Eternities
What do y'all think? Looks good?
Also, Vise, in case you hadn't seen it, Megiddo posted this yesterday on the contest page:
Um, so, I've got a bit of egg on my face right now!
While tinkering with my PMs I accidentally deleted all of the R1 judgings from my inbox! Terrible, I know. I do apologize, but I'd like to request that the participating clans resubmit just the judgings for R1 along with their R3 entry and R2 judgings.
I was hoping I could run the contest without a hitch, but these things happen.
On a separate note... I'm not sure where i pulled this from... (it very well may have been someone on here, but i really don't feel like going back thru the posts to find it! )
This is the back story that came out piecemeal before the Innistrad block was released. It was released in no particular order via youtube, twitter, postcards, email, blogs, etc., but someone decided to organize it. It's a really good read!
Ok, so i was busy with my kids and my birthday today, so i apologize to you blackvise for not getting those votes to you if it is too late.
I got a fatpack from the kids for m13. Nothing really special except two w/u duals, one g/w dual, and a nichol bolas.
And if i had to answer, i would say i am so Timmy, johnny, vorthos, spike. That is the order most of the time. If i am playing competitively (which rarely happens) spike shoves its way to the top of the list.
Speaking of playing, i really need to get a good casual group together again. Tried to convince my brother to play once in a while again, but he flat said no. Thinking i may put out a personal or maybe some fliers, but they seem so inappropriate for trying to get a group of players together. At 31 yrs old, i also want to avoid the whole weird vibe of a personal or flier as it may attract younger players and ire from their parents for wanting to hang out with someone my age. Anyone got any ideas?
That's not to say I don't play for fun/I'm not fun to play against, I just value cards and decks for their raw efficiency higher than most other properties. Hence why some of my favorite cards are the likes of Phantasmal Image and Venser, Shaper Savant.
As for my favorite deck? I enjoy playing so many it's hard to pick! I guess anything playing Berserk wins out (Stompy, Garv), but I also like tribal (namely Illusions, Goblins, and Kithkin). Fish-style tempo decks are so pretty fun as well. I generally prefer to play aggro and tempo decks, naturally.
If you explained what a magicpsychoatric profile is to my playgroup, they would tell you that I'm 100% spike when I'm really 100% johnny. It's not my fault that I spend a lot of time playtesting and refining my decks and they don't.
I think thats whats up with me. Shawn says I'm Spike where as I always saw myself as a Johnny. He's been playing longer than I but I consider myself a better player.
I'll see if I can make my own variation of the deck ;P
My favorite deck in Vintage is Tezzerator, in either :symbu:, or :symw::symu::symb:. I play a :symbu:. Favorite extended deck of all time; Fae. Favorite modern deck: Scapeshift- Valakut, (I have given up all hope in modern, so will have to state what I liked playing before all the banhammers at the kitchen table). In Standard, my favorite all-time deck to play was affinity, the build, followed closely by the zen/scars tempered steel. In legacy, my favorite deck to play was Charbelcher, in like 2006, followed closely by mono blue stasis. In "casual", (casual=no banlist eternal format), my favorite deck would be Tezzerator with 3x extra Tinkers than I play in my vintage build.
My player type is Spike Spikaford McSpikeyspike. Optimization for winning face is generally my only goal. I have toned down a bit in Commander, but that's just because I have been expanding the commander players I play with and they are generally easily upset when I do anything remotely ruthless early game.
I'm a little unsure about the sideboard. I think I may have switched it around just a little, but will have to wait until I get home to be absolutly sure. If I could afford to put a little more money into it, I'd for sure splice a third color. The only reason I am unwilling to part with more monies for the deck is that noone really plays Vintage around here. Every Saturday night, one of the local stores run "15 proxy" vintage, but I have little interest in loosing to people with fake cards/straight up paper slip proxies, especially at a tournament. Aside from that, once or twice a month another local store will hold Vintage tournaments, and I try to go those. So even though this is an unspikey thing to say, I just dot see a valid reason for me to throw more money into the deck. I know this sounds silly considering some of the cards in the deck, but I am always looking for ways to improve without explaining to my wife why I'm spending lots of money on a format we rarely play.
Timmy/Johnny. I live for the big, splashy Hail Mary combo. Pulling a decisive win from the flaming ashes of defeat, particularly if I snake oit out using some bizarre comnbo that leaves the look of "Wait, What?!" on my opponents' faces.
Just got back from Standard FNM and hey I won with my U/W Miracle control :D.
Needless to say I got pretty lucky during swiss but I'd have to say that Terminus and Entreat the Angels are AWESOME!
Ended up getting 9 packs (I chose Avacyn) for 1st. Didn't get anything too amazing, but hey it was fun never the less and I won with a rogue blue control deck :D.
@Psi, hecks yea! Congrats. What was your record? Face anything cool?
During swiss I played:
Round 1, Turbo Fog (won 2-0). I stuck aJace, Memory Adept against them both games with lots of counter magic backup. They really had no chance.
Round 2, U/G Elves (won 2-0), was kind of a weird deck. Was basically Elves with counter magic. Creative to say the least, but it wasn't very good especially against my U/W Miracle control.
Round 3, B/W Tokens (won 2-0). I got soo lucky this matchup, I got off a back to back miracled Entreat the Angels for 5 twice in a row one game, and Devastation Tide blew him out the other game after he over extended.
Round 4, R/G Ramp (lost 1-2). Game 1 I countered everything relevant he tried playing. Games 2 and 3 he drew more Inkmoth Nexus than I did Ghost Quarters. Not much else to say .
After that my record was 3-1 and I broke into the top 4.
Top 4, U/W/b Delver (won 2-1). Game one he got mana flooded and lost, game two I got mana screwed and lost. Game three, I completely smashed him after playing a turn three miracled Terminus on his overextended board of triple Delver of Secrets. Needless to say he was kinda angry.
Finals, R/G ramp. Same one from swiss (won 2-0). I got my revenge .
I think I know who I want to build for my 10th edh deck. I also don't think I'll be going over that number, so this will be my last new deck without having to dismantle an old one.

Sek'Kuar!
Last new deck? I don't know. I told myself I didn't need more than 2 EDH decks but I'm already working on my 4th and thinking of building the 5th :banghead:. So I'm not sure if that will be your last XD!!!

Just saw some of the RTR spoilers and HOLY CRAP! I am in love with several cards right now and shock reprints are just icing. Going to love popping open boosters of this set!
Oh wow, so I'm not the only one that feels this way?

Kokopuff + infinite reflection is EVIL. It reminds me of the two things I still want to do:
Rite of Replication (kicked) + Massacre Wurm
Reins of Power + Soulblast
Vorthos like the flavor of deck, Melvin like how a card interacts with itself. Melvin cards are like Firemaw Kavu, Stuff Doll, Haze of Rage and so on.
I spend a lot more time deckbuilding than playing. I think my 4 latest EDH decks have never been played against someone else.
Here it is (just remember, when this deck was around, Lorwyn was the latest set) :):
4 Epochrasite
4 Mulldrifter
4 Shadowmage Infiltrator
4 Phyrexian Ironfoot
4 Riftwing Cloudskate
4 Shriekmaw
2 Venser, Shaper Savant
4 Makeshift Mannequin
2 Grim Harvest
2 Profane Command
Land
4 River of Tears
4 Underground River
2 Mouth of Ronom
2 Faerie Conclave
2 Urza's Factory
1 Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth
7 Snow-Covered Island
4 Snow-Covered Swamp
I didn't include my sideboard because that would be silly. But that's the deck. It can be changed and altered as much as you like as long as the core is still 4 Mulldrifter, 4 Riftwing Cloudskate, 4 Shriekmaw, 4 Makeshift Mannequin and 2 Grim Harvest.
I think Aether Counters would definitely work well with the flavor.
So i believe our final card will be:

I feel so alone here calling myself a Spike

I would say so. Many vendors have been selling them for 75-100, and the Maze of Iths alone are about $40 each
Just barely.
Seriously, though? That's awesome. Where/how?
