Oh, on a side note - Dresden has had a standing invitation to the guild and has been accepted into the guild as a member.
Hey, that's great news! He and I have had a number of very easy, quick, and pleasant transactions, and he's right up there with jlm and the rest of the gang in terms of great service. Welcome to the clan, Dresden!
Mmm forget uLine, I think you still get a better deal from eBay for bubble mailers, it's around $25 shipped for 500 mailers I believe ($0.05~$0.10 per depending on your bidding skills and what's available) - there was a thread on mkt st cafe on this a few months back: http://forums.mtgsalvation.com/showthread.php?t=293519
I'm finally down to my last couple of dozen, time to re-order soon! I currently use paypal multi-order shipping for mailing, so toploader(s) + bubble mailer + 3oz package will cost ya <$2 for shipping.
ULine has it to where you can buy them in bulk (100 for like $47 or something like that). Now currently I buy them from the post office, but I'm going to be changing that and buy in bulk so that way it's less expensive in the long run. (It costs me about $3.25 w/mailer + shipping) when it could be dropped lower.

Oh really? That's even better! Maybe I should toss together a list of shipping/packaging materials for traders and sellers so they can get the best deal or something. Again it's something I would have to discuss with the moderators/administrators so that way I don't get in trouble for doing it.
Any ideas/suggestions on this?
Oh, another item for discussion: How do you format your trade/sale list(s)?
EDIT - And Dresden, you now also have vote/say in whether or not members are added to the guild, so if you can/want, please feel free to vote on him88himself joining the guild.
EDIT - Talked/PM'd with Weaver and he stated it is okay that we put a list of shipping/packaging items (such as through USPS, ULine, etc...) in our thread. Yay for happy times! I believe this can include loaders as well as they can be classified as such. After all, we are the Merchants Guild!
I usually get bubbles from ebay, and as for "cleaning" I use the little felt cloth that came with my lcd tv with a drop of water on it and a dry one.
I format my trade list by standard and legacy, then colors inbetween. I find it hard to find things in other peoples list that are done by sets. As for sales list I usually put up lots of cards that move relativly fast.
About the formatting, yea, I don't like a whole lot of spoilers esp by set since you can't Ctrl-F through them without clicking each one and I don't know my cards and sets offhand
Also wish more people would wrap their lists with haves/wants (you can do this even with your sales posts - maybe it helps boost sales/trades), so people can still find cards via 'search haves/wants'.

Hmm, well it looks like I'm only hitting 50% of your preferences with my list then I defaulted to putting up my sales list by set, as that's how my trade binder was actually organized and it allows me to find things instantly when someone wants them. Damn my encyclopedic knowledge of my collection!
I agree with you completely about the haves/wants tags, and I know it has at least helped boost your sales because I have seen your cards come up as the only selling result before. That's why I use them on my sales list now too. I hate remembering seeing something that I wanted to buy, but then not being able to locate it again because it doesn't come up in a search.
Hehe sorry about that JuicyJ, it's just my personal preference anyway, I'm sure somebody out there prefers seeing lists by sets since they know exactly what they want from each set, but I have the memory of a goldfish
I am guilty of this as well, I actually have more spoilers than is probably optimal right now (on my list, no legacy staples, i.e. wasteland show up without clicking on a spoiler), but that's on purpose.
I was also going to suggest that we require all members to use the have/want tags, something I wish they listed as a rule on the trading forums, but...it so happens that Josh is the most successful trader on this site, and he doesn't use have/want tags, so I shall defer to him this matter ^^
@Dresden: So be it, we shall defer to the Chancellors on the matter of the haves/wants tags, the only issue I see is the formatting of such and how we would be able to verify that they have used those tags appropriately.
@jlm & Juicy_J: What say you on the requirement of the haves/wants tags being a requirement? Also, if you wouldn't mind, a way to implement them correctly in the trade/sales threads appropriately?
Vote update on the potential member him88himself. (2 days remain)
Yes - 2
No - 3
One person has yet to vote (icemanscion). As soon as either a) they vote or b) 3 days have passed, then the verdict will be rendered.
I think the have/want tags are very successful tools that we can all use to help expand our range on the site. Here's how it works:
The best place for the tags on your trade or sales list is before the first actual card listed. (In the following examples, you OMIT the $ when you type it--I just needed to stick in something extra so the tags would show up). For example, on my list, I type [$haves] before my first New Phyrexia card, and then after my core set cards at the bottom, I type [$/haves]. This way, whenever a user does a search using the haves/wants tool, they can see your listing. This includes the entire line on your list, so any potential trader or buyer can see quantity and price if you have it listed. Wants are done in the exact same fashion, just take the above and replace the word "haves" with "wants" and it should work.
Do I think we should require them? I don't know if I have an opinion on this. Forcing people to use them seems strange, since you'd think someone would want to use them if they were aware of their existence and how to implement them.
So you would have to do this for each spoiler as well I would guess (I put mine in spoilers to keep them organised.)
I am personally not sure if it being a 'requirement' or 'rule' for the guild would be necessary as it's mostly for exposure when someone looks for haves/wants, but I've been wrong before. LOL
Hehe yea I was just trying to apply some positive pressure on get this more widely implemented, since I bet much less than half the trade/sales threads are searchable, it'd mildly annoying. Granted, MOTL has the same problem, so it's not just this site. I was actually deliberating writing up an app to crawl through mtgs/motl and find me the availability/lowest price of any given card I wanted, but I got lazy, and acquired most of the cards I wanted for now so this project is on the backburner
One of these days though, I might get around to it. It'll surely beat the pants off of tcgplayer/magiccards.info for prices
Oh and Josh, in your sales thread for example, within each spoiler tags, you could do this (taking the first spoiler as an example):
I will do my best to update my threads this weekend using that system. During the week I only have my phone so it's much more difficult to do things like that haha.
LOL @ jlm. That's why I'm happy to have a laptop. Why do you only have a computer during the weekend? Do we have to go put some smackdown on people for you to have a computer full time? LOL
@Dresden: It's not a bad idea overall, and if you make that program, let us know.
Hahaha that's funny man. Someday I'll explain what my username means and then you'll laugh at that comment
My wife and I moved into this house not too long ago and we just haven't had Internet set up yet. On the weekends I take my laptop with me to her parents house and use the Internet there.
LOL...I laugh at most things anyway (or at least try to). It's what keeps me in a semi-sane state of mind *Sigh* Of course I also wonder if those dancing bananas have meaning now....
Ahh, I've had that happen. It was when I lived in Cleveland, OH. I had someone there and thought I had given the right address to get internet/TV set up. Unfortunately I gave them the wrong address (was off by 3 numbers, which turned out to be the house next door. Talk about feeling like a heel). Needless to say, they said it'd be another week before they could get out and install. *Shakes his head*
Nice Josh, congrats on the move! I'm due for one as well, you never realize how many mtg cards you have until I you gotta pack em, haha. Time to start building some full sets!
I only just recently got the ability to play vintage dredge, so I'm definitely new to the format - any thoughts on whether it could make a comeback (and thereby influencing the trading of vintage staples)?
I am all for Vintage staying alive. It's really the only format I can find within 30 miles of me. If I were to go 90 miles either North or South (Seattle and Portland respectively), then I could find every imaginable format. Unfortunately with gas prices the way they are, well, yeah we can do math on that one. LOL
But I read the Vintage revival thread and it could be interesting. That way people with older cards will be able to at least play them outside of Legacy.
I also read that thread about keeping Vintage alive, and I thought it was a bummer for selfish reasons. Truthfully, I would be happy if Vintage continued to exist, as it would mean that most aspects of the game (outside of standard, which is an awful money-sink) were still very healthy.
My problem lies in that I am also a collector, and I have hopes of someday owning a set of Power 9. I currently only have two of nine (both Unlimited), but in spite of my collecting instincts, the main reason I want them is to play with them. I don't really make terribly competitive decks (outside of Legacy), so my friends don't really mind my using the power cards, and I think they are a blast to use!
So, if Vintage suddenly takes off and the cards increase in price in much the same way as Legacy staples recently did, I think it's safe to say I will never own any more power. I would be just a bit saddened by that.
Unfortunately, there is no Vintage scene around where I live, so I can't say for sure (from any personal experience) if Vintage prices will suddenly shift.
man i need to get with the program on formatting my thread... eek. lol maybe one day
in LA there are some people who play vintage. i went to their tournament once and there was a decent turn out. the impression i got was that the people LOVE the format and that's why they play. to keep it alive though someone's gotta put a big prize on the line- that's what gets people to show up and buy cards.
what do you guys think is goin on with vintage cards? i got a CE box and I'm debating what to do with it. i have an interested party who's got legacy staples fbb duals etc.
Personally I think the hype with vintage is caused by SCG. They're buying up every piece of power (and semi-power) they can get. I think it's an attempt to drive the value up so that they can make a profit. Think of all the indirect promoting vintage is getting as a result of SCG's buylist updates. In my personal opinion, it's probably going to work for them because they have so much influence on the secondary market already. Everytime they cause this sort of "hype", they turn a huge profit. It's a simple, yet beautiful, practice. Buy all the pieces, promote and advertise "the return of vintage", host some events that are sure to attract attention, and then resell those same pieces for a drastic profit as a result of the glorified attention. Smart if you ask me
@Chancellors - We need to discern an option for potential joining members, that if denied entry into the guild, then they should have options available to them later on down the road (such as with people denied due to poor trader practices, etc...).
Please post any ideas you may have so that way we can implement this in a timely manner.
Thank You
- EDIT -
My To-Do List Today:
1. Streamline the rules/regulations to make them more cohesive and put together.
2. Alter rules/regulations to comply with the new trade/sell rules being implemented.
3. Compile a list of packaging/shipping materials.
4. Update links as necessary.
5. Update Haves/Wants listings.
(Yes, this is what I do on a consistent basis aside from trading and other life stuff)
@JuicyJ: I hear ya JuicyJ, we live in Illinois - what vintage? The only vintage I see going on is in the C-U area, and it's probably too far from either of us. Bummer for me as well on the collection aspect
@jlm: Yea, SCG and their buylists, sigh. I need to get lucky on eBay, but I'm not at all sure SCG will succeed this time. I see plenty of people getting out of vintage into legacy (trading P9 for duals, fow's, etc.) but not really many the other way around. Guess we'll have to see! I also hear there's a lot more vintage on the french forums, might go check it out someday.
@BloodLightning - If you ever figure out an easy way to get say, prices from magic.tcgplayer.com via API, quickly, for thousands of cards, let me know! Btw if you can trade CE stuff for fbb duals, that sounds good to me!
