I wish I was going, but having issues financially (which is nothing new).
@Griselbrand: I hate saying this, but I hope it gets axed prior to because I can also almost guarantee that he'll play in EDH Reanimators/GY Shenanigans. I'm not sure if he'll be a Commander (possibly though, but with Swords still being heavily played, it'd be almost impossible to mono-color an EDH).
Playing him as your General is arguably the best thing you can do with him. You have access to him as soon as you have 8 mana (which, if the deck is built properly, will be turn 3 or 4), you're in the color of discard for protection, and there are plenty of cheap acceleration spells to cast afterward to allow you to combo off.
In any kind of deck he would be a part of the 99, you have to use at least one card to find him, and possibly another card to dump him in the 'yard, and then another card to reanimate him. I've noticed people on the "official" EDH board saying that he's more busted as part of the 99, but those people clearly have not played with/against him as a General.
I want him banned because he is completely ridiculous, but also because it will somewhat depress the foil price (not completely, though; stupid Legacy) so I don't have to give up $35 in trade or cash for one.
1. I am beta testing the new MTGO format/layout ... I have to say, I'm actually slightly impressed with it. They actually made it more visual, however the lag/layout have improved a great deal (the old version used to lag me to no end, even as 'text'. This version has yet to do so).
2. Deck editor on it has improved a GREAT deal. They have Deck Categories and Binders to organize by how you want it (major improvement right there).
I'll post more on it later.
@Commander: There are several ways to tutor for him. Diabolic Tutor being one of the main ones (You can also play and toss in a Genesis Wave). Blue also has a lot of ways to tutor him. Playing straight up black in EDH would almost get you killed by T3-T4 due to the mass amounts of GY destruction (Relic, Nihil, Curse of Oblivion, etc...), so it's always good to splash.
While having him as a general would be fun, you would have to utmost protect your graveyard.

Yes, there are tons of ways to tutor him up. My point is that as your General, you *always* have access to him, which cannot be understated. You also will have a difficult time making a deck with him as part of the 99 as consistent at getting him out turn 4 compared to using him as your General.
As far as getting wrecked by graveyard hate in mono black, that's the one way to play him (as your General) where you won't have him in your graveyard, so that's irrelevant. You're going to win the game when he resolves, so you don't need to bring him back in any way. Sure, graveyard hate might be slightly awkward if you all-in on Yawgmoth's Will, but if the deck is built properly, it's easy to work around that. Even then, not enough people graveyard hate (or enough of it) to do that sort of thing consistently.
All of this is based on playing with and against the card, both as a General and as a part of the 99. The card is busted either way, but always having access to him on turn 4 is significant.
Man, this is going to be weird: I'll be playing Standard for the first time since Jace, the Mind Sculptor was legal this weekend. Not sure how to feel about it.
i'm on vacation now i havent played or though about magic much lately
I was going to play a Wolf Run list I hashed out, but am not thrilled with the prospects of playing against Delver all day, so I might just play Delver. Playtesting tonight will help me figure it out.
It's for a "Win an Ipad" side event at the WMCQ this weekend; having not really played Standard for over a year, I am not qualified for the main event, but it's pretty close to here, and the Ipad (or 4 boxes for second) is drawing me out, especially since the "good" players will be in the main event. I just wish the event was going to have Commander side events.
So anybody within a few hours of the Dayton/Cincinnati, OH area...
As much as I hate to say it, I've got to look at selling off my collection. I'd prefer to have sell it all in one go if possible. After going through my binders and decks to gauge what kind of value I should put on it, they came out to just over 1800. I'm going to ask for probably 75% of that (or best offer), so somewhere in the region of 1350-1400. I'd include my bulk commons and uncommons that I haven't gone through, as well as all the accessories I've built up through the years (sleeves, deck boxes, dice, playmats, etc.).
If anybody is at all interested, or knows someone who might be, please shoot me a PM.
Thanks,
Allohak

Eh, I went 2-2 drop. Mulled to 5 twice in one match, then lost to a good matchup by drawing land after land. It happens. I actually enjoyed the deck, though, and it makes me want to play it more.
I'll be joining you in the standard play pretty soon here also. I'm working on a U/W miracle list that looks like a lot of fun, hoping to get in when M13 drops.
Hope everyone is doing well. It's been very boring here lately without any large MTG events to look forward to dealing in, so I've been spending less time on MTGS.
On an unrelated note I bought a limited edition Star Wars Xbox 360 bundle yesterday... If you guys happen to be thinking about upgrading or something my local Gamestop was offering a $50 gift card on top of the $400 price tag. In case that is a nation-wide thing you may want to give it a look. At least it was best deal I've seen so far.
Well, the main event was the World Magic Cup Qualifier, and the TO staffed expecting ~600 players. The turnout was 130. Ouch. This was the most central location of the three in the US (Bay Area this Saturday, College Park, MD next Saturday), so I don't have high hopes for the other two, attendance wise. The entire system seems like a total disaster.
I did end up with about $2K in trades, though, getting a bunch of foils and such I've been looking for.
Oh, and in related news, the foil Legendary Creature Project is complete: not only do I own every legendary creature ever printed, but I also have the original foil of every one that has ever been printed in foil. It's been a long road, but now it's done.

For 6 weeks. :/
look at it this way, at least you only have to worry about new legends now and not any other.....

Oh, I know. It's a great relief to be caught up. I just hate the fact that any foil legendary creature that is remotely playable immediately jumps to $20+ upon release.
Thank goodness, I panicked a little when I read JTMS in Psi's post. I sort of actually wanted to play standard in the next 6+ months, except during the fleeting second where I thought Jace 2.Jerk's return was a possibility.
Anyone have any thoughts on trying to force mono-red in Standard? I have a deck that I whipped up that seems to be working fine, but I'm wondering how much trouble I'd be in for when Game 2 rolls around. I only built it because Leyline of Sanctity and Kor Firewalker are no longer issues, and I wasn't aware of any completely anti-red sideboard cards in Standard at the moment.

The issues with mono red is that opposing creatures are efficient enough that you're not going to be able to do a lot of damage with your own creatures in most matchups, and the available burn is pretty underwhelming; the deck needs Lightning Bolt something fierce.
Oh, and Sword of War & Peace completely removes your ability to race.
people are talking about show and smell.. thinking maybe it will get banned for legacy because of griselface. i doubt this will happen, and if it remains unbanned i can see this moving even higher when all the people who are on the fence about making the plunge see that it's safe. might be a good pick up under $40 if you want to risk it.

The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the tyranny of magical cards.
I think they're all idiots People tend to go gaga over the latest and greatest but it's nowhere as dominating as survival of the fittest was or even RUG. I mean it literally only won a couple of tourneys that I know of, so I don't think it's a huge deal I do like the card though, and I don't think it'll be banned due to Griselface. If they print maybe one more enabler though, that'd probably do it - the card is fairly broken
it's certainly not proven to be dominating. but it's strong enough to put up results and people like playing it, almost always as a 4 of in multiple decks. on top of that it's a popular casual card, and if it stays unbanned and is not reprinted, the days of finding show and tell under $30 will probably be gone forever.

Haha, yeah. I misread. Thank goodness it's not JTMS. I freaked myself out a bit.
As for your red, miracle cards are wonderful. I nabbed myself a Bonfire of the Damned (as well as a couple of Temporal Mastery and Devastation Tide). Other than that, Battle Hymn is good for mana accel for bigger creatures, Dual Casting is a great card (reverb as an enchantment?! YAY!), Havengul Vampire has worked for me a couple of times, Lightning Mauler is a favorite of mine in red, but if you really wanna mess with people, use Rite of Ruin. I learned people hate that card. LOL

Card rules errata!!
Just kidding
I feel for you on the legendary foils. That would make new sets seem much more frustrating than exciting. Congrats on the good trades.
I already do that for planeswalkers...I do it for all cards I play with in EDH, more or less.
And it's Jace, Memory Adept in M13, not JTMS.
