I go by the book and usually get back a nice some in the spring. Mostly because I pay so much in interest on my house and am still able to write that off. If the government has their say, that won't be the case in the near future. If they take that tax write off from home owners, the incentive to own a home is no longer there. It becomes more economical to rent a house and not have to worry about upkeep costs because a landlord will do all that for free.
I pay more in taxes than the rich. Though their tax bracket is higher....they still gross more yearly than most. When I pay out 30+% of my paycheck I bring home just enough to survive and pay my bills and groceries. When they pay out 40% of their income, they still have enough to make a couple mortgage payments, buy a new car and monthly expenses are never a worry.

The media has already tried to sugar coat the difficulty in owning a home. They've run several stories about how the "New" American dream is to rent. Makes no sense to me, but if the Illuminati was trying to sabotage home ownership I'd start there and then get rid of those tax breaks.
I don't know the details about the rich and how they pay taxes, but I've heard that there are so many loop holes for them that they can get away with a lot of stuff. If Buffett's claim that he pays a lower percentage in taxes than his secretary is true, then something is really wrong with the tax system.
I also didn't realize that the government made interest on my taxes before my return. Sounds a bit shady if you ask me.
I don't lie on my taxes, but I also keep horrible records. Spent about "this" much on school books, around "that" much for tuition...blah blah blah. If the IRS ever decided to Audit me I'd be screwed only because I'd not have any proof of anything. I probably should fix that, but then I'm disorganized all around.
I am trying to organize my life a little better...mostly in preparation of moving all my stuff back into my car. Thinking of Inventorying my junk to see exactly what I have. ...and despite not owning much, I do have a lot of random junk.
Cheers,
Daggertooth

Well, it looks like I'm dropping out of university and moving to my aunt's house in Vancouver. My family has been abusive with me and my difficulties with school instead of helping me. I've been diagnosed with depression and anxiety, and I just had a telephone interview with someone from the mental health department of the local hospital. You'd think parents would be conscious of that, eh? So it looks like I'll be scraping for a minimum wage job and practicing my writing, hoping to one day land a writing gig without a university degree. Such is life~
Some crazy IRL stuff dragging me down too, dread dread. Are you still going to be around? Do you have any pals in the Couve?
No close friends in town, but I do know a few people over Facebook who I'll be looking to get in touch with. It's only an hour's drive from where I am now, so I can still make it out for events with friends. I'm not going anywhere MTGS-wise, don't worry. (Though I may be a bit less active during the transition)
Bud, I can still be friends with you even though I don't agree with your moderation.
So much silly drama going on around the site. So much butt-hurt everywhere.
Rian...I realize admining/moderating this site is a thankless job. There are decisions you have to make no matter how unfavorable. Sometimes you take a position that VERY outspoken people are going to disagree with and the fact that you're on the other side of world trying to sleep while the site is blowing up is not your fault. Kijin holds himself in high regard and has a relatively large following of users on this site. His methods were always very blunt, but they were effective. While I see his side of things I think it went WAAAAYYY farther than necessary. That being said....keep fighting the good fight!
Talore...votan says some pretty good things there. Your best bet is move away from that which gives you the greatest pain with the least support and find new salvation in those that actually care about you. There's no reason to quit university though....you can always take classes while you work, and as someone with very little income, I'm sure you can get grants and scholarships to continue your education. It's the best time of your life....where you can do things without regret...you should revel in this phase of life and live it as fully as possible.

Cheers, jj. We often have a good laugh at me in the staff lounge about how I am not "the Great Soother". Diplomacy is hard when a warm smile isn't an option, just words. . . & of course some people are less open to actually discussing issues than others.
What blows me out of the water is the misrepresentation & the high horsing. It's not really appropriate for me to bust out the player's plays in this, but I will say I am ****ing gobsmacked that it went down like this, after the effort I put into trying to keep a valued member of staff on the path that lets the Salve staff keep him. Hearsay usually wins out here, though
I miss when I could come in here & be an arse & nobody cared. I feel like I have to maintain & it's sucked the fun out; I just go off-site now
That's a shame Ria....I can remember those days as well. You've made decisions that I don't agree with, but you saw them through and were always able to explain yourself properly to those that took the time to listen. It's true that some of the moderation on this site gets out of hand, but I think overall it's got to have a short leash with a majority of the people here. The one thing I do agree with is that every person on here over the age of 18 is an adult-child. I know that I am....it helps me maintain some sens of youth to know that I can say what I want on a forum full of people with similar interests through a game that at some point in all of our lives we enjoyed playing. I think that in many areas of this site, that one connecting thread is forgotten. Everyone in here at one point or another had enough interest in Magic to post their thoughts on this site. Through time and habits, people stayed far beyond their interest in the game. That is the case with most people in this clan alone!
I think I may be the only person in the clan that plays Magic on a regular basis....and I'm the oldest jerk in here! As sad as that is....I don't care. I come here to see what others have to say about the game and to read what is going with the people I have grown to like through a faceless forum...with the exception of Daggs of course. We have met in person and had some pretty damn good Bar-B-Que!
On a more personal note...I hope that your family is doing well. I haven't heard anything about them in years.
fake eds....it's funny to think about...all of the crying and complaining about there being an "adult NSFW" forum on a site about magic cards, and the biggest criers on the site for years through all the gutter drama and they are now the biggest posters in the new area. All crying when their stupid threads get locked down after sickening the entire site with visions of them in "sexy" attire and compromising positions. Silly people are silly!!!

The hardest thing about this is usually: having privileged information you can't just flop out 'look at this & tell me you would not respond the same'.

Absolutely agree about remaining connected to our inner-children. I know I identify with that strongly, but it's not something you can just throw in a person's face – not everyone likes to think of themselves that way, honest assessment or no. Others are happy to argue that fantasy & games can be entirely 'adult' pursuit.

They're good. Some drama, but I've never had much desire to bring that here. . . & I feel like they deserve more privacy than I can give them, if I'm posting about them here. O is amazing, his vocabulary is out of control, & his imagination boggles even my mind. Always has a project going. . . or four, just like his mum. Lil' A is obsessed with 'NEEN JAS!' since I accidentally let him watch some Bruce Lee clips last month. He wants to watch kung fu over breakfast, every morning; who needs cartoons? O always seems concerned about the violence, but invariably there are 'training sessions', your face is not safe. Reya got a video of them cutting sick this morning, it'll be on fecesbuk laterish, I'll make sure to point you at it, you will laugh.
Well...I'll look for the vid! Your kids sound amazing! Like us, I'm happy to hear that you allow them to explore their creativity first and foremost. I think that is the greatest aspect of a child's mind...to allow it to flow in whatever direction it takes them....and just follow along for the ride. But, with you an A as parents...I'm sure that was bound to be the way. Just remember that if you an A stay strong and true to each other, there isn't any obstacle you can't get through with each other in tow. Family is the strongest bond for anything in life....keep that in mind for all of your future endeavors!

Talore, I agree with getting away from those people that hurt you. It sounds like a very hard home life and I was happy for you when you moved out. As for the university, well if you can stick with it that would be best...mainly because it opens a lot of doors for you.
In this case I agree. I've read up on about 2/3rds of it and find the whole thing boring. Usually drama has something enticing, something worth fighting for, something that stands out and says "hey, this is why people are pissed!" In this case, I don't get it. I'm too busy to do more than just glance at it though. Still on hiatus.
Dux, I heard about a huge hail storm over there in Nashville about two months ago. You get to make profits off of that? Also saw the news about the guy going all grand theft auto over there. Nashville is a strange place.

It's true that some of the moderation on this site gets out of hand
I think part of that is that this sites moderation has moved to the left a bit much. Keen eye on over the top PC and "potential" for even a hint of hurt feelings. I can't criticize it too much because it plays strongly to the persona of a lot of our user base. End result is a bit coddling, moderating to their defense instead of telling them to man up. You'd be surprised what the members report as bad.
As for being a moderator, it does make me feel that I need to be careful everywhere I go. Within two months of being a moderator I had created feuds with other people just by saying hi. Gotta be very careful because hanging out with us I forget that we tend to be blunt and tell it as it is....at least we used to....but out there I don't know who's hyper sensitive and who isn't.
Well, back to work. Adviser told me "we have to talk" about my second chapter. Basically I have to go back and re-analyze the data from the very beginning and I need to gut the text. I've got about a week.
Cheers,

Indeed it is a strange place, brings in all types of folk.
The hail storm still has us busy as hail.
Got about 50 cars at each store and are still scheduling people out. The storm that came through was on 3/2 and the hail only lasted about 3 min. Happened during rush-hour though.
