Random Fact (musical or not): Has been to school concerts and seen local bands.
I listen to a lot of music, usually 3-7 albums a day. My favourite bands/singers are The Beatles, The Smiths, Arcade Fire, Elliott Smith, David Bowie, Neil Young, Stevie Wonder, Swans, Mogwai, and Cat Stevens. I listen to a lot of soul and noise music, post rock, post punk, quite a bit of "alternative" and other stuff from the 1960s and early 1970s - Velvet Underground, Seals and Crofts, The Asylum Choir, The United States of America, Chicago... I do enjoy some electronic music too, mainly the noisy electronic stuff, drone, and krautrock. I've never been a fan of any metal or hardcore though, possibly The Melvins but that's about it, really.
I also collect records, my collection is at about... 100-150? records now, including a few 7" singles. My favourite record I own is a 1996 UK pressing of Sonic Youth's "Confusion Is Sex" and a 1972 second pressing of The Beatles' White Album.

Random Fact: Um. I have no facts. I play harp? Though I haven't lately. I sing.
Real Name: James
Musical Preference: Ultimately I'm a rocker at heart, the more traditional (by which I mean "old school values" rather than "mainstream") the better. I was raised on a healthy diet of 70's rock, jazz, classical and folk music, so anything encompassing (or, even better, combining) these elements it bound to appeal to me on some level. Also, I've been playing piano since age 8, so I tend towards piano-heavy music.
Electronic music (even over-use of synthesised music in traditional bands) is a bit of a hangup of mine, but I'm trying very hard to learn to adapt to this one, if for no other reason than I don't want to turn into a grumpy old man before I hit 30.
Favourite Bands/Artists:
Old/Eternal Favourites - Beatles, Zeppelin, Foo Fighters, Radiohead, Muse, JS Bach, Ben Folds, Billy Joel, Queen, The Eagles, Cold Chisel, AC/DC.

RANDOM FACT- ILL PWN YOUR FACE OFF IN MW2 all takers welcome
Name: Jack
Preferred Genres: Quite a few. I tend to like individual songs more than types of music. Overall, I really like most types of rock.
Favorite Bands: Florence and the Machine, Bad Company, Johnossi, Monarchs, Steve Miller Band, Yasushi Ishii, Tarja, Foreigner. (Yeah... bit random.)
You can call me Aurora. I have chosen to be a friend of this clan as I play piano, and I have written some of my own music.
My favorite bands? I haven't decided; it's quite varied among a lot of things. I haven't even decided a favorite genre. I have this eight-minute-long compilation (http://www.sporcle.com/games/AuroraIllumina/school-of-velocity) I made of 37 clips of me playing some of my favorites on the piano.
Despite my user title would suggest, I am not much of a metalhead; I selected that line ("Like a Rainbow in the Dark") because it literally describes what an aurora is quite well.
I play Rock Band every once in a while; playing real piano seems to be what helps at playing plastic guitar here.
::Note::
Not all of the friend bios are uniform, so I might have messed something up in the editing process. If I did, just let me know and I'll fix it
::Note::
Anyone can post in the thread, regardless of friend or membership status, all I ask is that you provide respectful, meaningful conversation (No flaming, trolling, etc). It is really easy to become a friend though, so why not? Because as George correctly said:
"The [Soundtrack] isn't about members, it is about friends"
Because of our unique view on friends, our Clan allows our friends to participate in Clan-Related Activities that most other clans would not (for instance, our friends helped submit ideas and VOTE for this thread title!)
As of January 5th, 2009 [Soundtrack] is allied with [The ÆSIR].
As of January 14th, 2009 [Soundtrack] is allied with The [Pack].
As of January 25th, 2010, [Sountrack] is allied with [Limited]
We're currently discussing: Music! (That's a no brainer xD)
First! Also, one of my suggested titles! #WINNING!
Not sure if anyone is up to date in the world of mashups, but "Lights" by Elie Goulding (that chick that played at the royal wedding) seems to be the flavor of the month. Opinions on the song?
So, what do you think of E-sports? I'm somewhat following IGN Pro League (In StarCraft 2) now, and there could be some really good games in there
I tend to watch the larger tournaments in SC2/League of Legends whenever they're on and I've got nothing better to do. They can be interesting at times, and at least on the SC2 side, they have also improved my own personal gameplay.
LoL tends to be a fair bit boring, though. 20 minutes of farming and then 10 minutes of action, really. And the tournaments are pretty badly organized. I mean, just for reference.

Hi. I was wondering if I could be a friend of this clan; I am a piano player (though I do a lot of other creative things as well).
As far as tastes in music go? Well, you could listen to those excerpts I'm playing in my Name That Tune quiz in my sig.
(Warning - this quiz is hard! No one has gotten more than 70% on it yet.)
Since it was buried under other discussion in the older thread, I will, even at the risk of looking like an idiot post my soundcloud again: Clicky.
It'd help me if someone could tell me what they liked and what they didn't. I know I've got a lot of things I can't do, but I'm learning. (Trying to get sidechaining to sound good at the moment, and experimenting with slides in FL studio.) You don't have to be an expert in electronic music. Hell, I hadn't listened to much electronic before I started playing around in FL studio myself.
I'm quite happy with the latest tracks, myself. What do you guys think? Good? Bad? Ugly?

@Amadi: Very interesting style of music you've got there. I've listened to the three most recent ones. Some parts seem like they're off (dissonant), but then again I'm no expert at this style of music, so I'm not sure. (Most of my music is classical-style music.) It's not bad though.
If anyone is interested, this is some random twelve-minute long piece of twelve segments. Each segment was thrown together in about half an hour or less, so this is an extremely simple piece.
If any pianists around here are up for a challenge, they could try to play one of my pieces here. You've got a minute to play it! Listen to it Get the sheet music

While we're on it, I'd actually also like to change the list of my favorite bands.
Coheed and Cambria, Brand New, At the Drive-in, Thursday.
I finally got around to putting some demos online to let people hear what I've been doing. It's just rough acoustic recordings and some of them aren't really complete but just to give people an idea. www.purevolume.com/The_Only_Underpass_That_Matters
The name is a little homage to The Clash, obviously. But the real reason is because Underpass was taken everywhere. Not only was it taken, but it was taken by people who haven't been active in several years, with no recordings, etc, etc. There was also one hip hop guy from california that went by Underpass but that pissed me off for 2 reasons:
1. It makes less sense than Chewbacca.
2. He went by other names, too... why'd he choose to use that one?
So in frustration I decided to go with that.
Anyways, there are no lyrics yet but I'll try to give you a vague idea of what I'm doing here.
Lux Stellarum- My Concept's intro/theme music. It actually is a lot longer than what is recorded because it's an old recording. I have since added a couple parts.
Inamorata - the first song of the concept and is actually kind of like a prequel in and of itself because I basically go back and watch myself back in the day at the beginning of my previous relationship and try to edge myself along. Like someone who comes back into the past to talk themselves into doing something that, if they fail to do, will destroy the world. Then I proceed to try to give a cryptic explanation of her life and current situations... that's basically it.
Walk on Water - The actual beginning of the concept where my fictitious self wakes up floating down the river of the other world (don't ask). Plus I mix in some flashbacks of various moments from the first time me n my ex met.
Rough Inside the Edges- my newest work, not sure where it fits into the concept yet but it'll probably be something to do with the 1st night of the concept. The name will probably also be changed.

I'm not really working to the guidelines of any specific genre, so I figure it's not surprising it's hard to place. I've got the so-so genre tags in the upper right corners of the track that are probably awfully wrong, but should give some idea of what to expect.
Could you elaborate on the parts sounding off? It probably isn't intentional.
If any pianists around here are up for a challenge, they could try to play one of my pieces here. You've got a minute to play it! Listen to it Get the sheet music
That's pretty cool. I can't play it with any instruments I've got, though, and I'm definitely no pianist. It sounds pretty cool, though.
I like the first one, it has a cool beat and a cool main line.
Working my way through the others after this one.
Cool. If you find that something sounds off, just be honest about it.
@physco: I listened to the tracks. They're pretty interesting, but the recording quality in the first one was pretty damn bad. That constant background noise just wasn't very pleasant.
Overall they seemed to get better as they went towards the newer stuff, so the trend is definitely upwards. Some of the main issues I noticed were that you didn't always let the guitar strings play long enough and cut it too early. The sound of the plectrum was also very loud compared to the sound of the guitar, which is probably due to your recording equipment/location of the microphone.
Overall, the composition was better than your guitar playing, so work on that. The general melodies are rather good, so not much improvement is needed there.

I'll have to re-record Lux Stellarum, I guess. I was actually talking to a friend earlier about how it was kind of bad. Especially for how easy listening it's supposed to be. But that was done a few months ago before I knew how to remove the mic buzz. Also, I added more to it to make it longer and, in my opinion, better. The final recording of it will have a keyboard playing chords in the background, as well as a lot of weather noises, specifically thunder.
As far as my strumming, yeah I'm recording in my chair in front of my computer so I am pretty close to the mic. However, I think you're mostly referring to the verse of Inamorata which is actually played like that on purpose. They're supposed to be muted chords with intermittent actual chord strumming sprinkled in for the melody. So that strumming you here is muted strings. Though, admittedly, it will be hard for me to find a good tone/effect setting for it. Now you made me aware of how much muted chords I actually do, lol.
I'm not really working to the guidelines of any specific genre, so I figure it's not surprising it's hard to place. I've got the so-so genre tags in the upper right corners of the track that are probably awfully wrong, but should give some idea of what to expect.

I haven't listened to everything yet, but I heard some long major seventh intervals in some places. It kinda gets dissonant when it goes on for that long.
While you're at it, there was a link I included in the spoiler tag for my bio that wasn't included. Could you please include that, or do you prefer to keep these link-free?

Good? Bad? Ugly?

If anyone is interested, this is some random twelve-minute long piece of twelve segments. Each segment was thrown together in about half an hour or less, so this is an extremely simple piece.
If any pianists around here are up for a challenge, they could try to play one of my pieces here. You've got a minute to play it!

Thanks to Craven at Epic Graphics!
That's pretty cool. I can't play it with any instruments I've got, though, and I'm definitely no pianist. It sounds pretty cool, though.

I don't get it...
Woot!
Thanks to Craven at Epic Graphics!
I haven't listened to everything yet, but I heard some long major seventh intervals in some places. It kinda gets dissonant when it goes on for that long.
