For those just joining us, yes, this is the anime clan. We discuss all things anime, manga, and Japanese, great and small, old and new.
Some of those who've been with us for a while will notice that there have been updates to our members and friends lists. If you had ten or fewer posts in the old thread, you got demoted. If anyone who was on either list would like to be added back, just post here and let us know, and I'll add you back.
We have a new movie to watch and discuss. It's a Gainax classic: The Wings of Honneamise. Really different, and very, very solid quality. I highly recommend as many people partake in this one as possible so we can get a good discussion going. Three weeks should be plenty of time for a single movie. I've set the discussion date for this one on a Friday, October 9th.
A new Anime of the Week will be up either this evening or tomorrow. We'll also be getting a new clan banner as soon as I can manage it. As much as I love Kamina and Haruhi, I'm imagining something on a more... grand scale.
Yes new Thread and Stuff showing his skills in the box tagging
Been reading more than viewing actually, though i still watch Requiem (for which im having mixed feelings, the idea of a desperado type anime sounds so awesome but its reaching conclusion now and i cant help but feel its been done in a rushed manner)
Im also keeping up with Dragon Ball Kai... honestly the fact that 3/4th worth of filler is being removed makes everything so much better!!!

WELL, on a happier note, I wasn't really able to keep up with you people with the crappy internet/computer I had previously. I am now running on a big rig with super fast internet, so I should be able to be a more useful member.
Strangely enough, I've been reading more than watching lately too... though what I've been reading is a fantasy novel called "Deadhouse Gates" by Steven Erikson. It's the second in the Malazan Book of the Fallen series. The books got good reviews by Stephen Donaldson, and since he's like, awesome sauce, I figured I'd give them a shot. It's been alright so far... nothing mind-blowing, but definitely solid all the way through. My only complaint is that the narrative switches between viewpoints so often that it's very easy to become disoriented. There are several parties of characters doing several different things at once, some on completely different continents.
I've got the rest of Battle Programmer Shirase and then Genius Party on my plate for tomorrow. That's, of course, after I apply for jobs, check bank locations online here in Kyoto, go to the International Center and check their job posting board, write a cover letter, and of course make us a new banner and a new AotW. Seems like I've always got too much on my plate at once. That's what happens when you procrastinate, I guess. :/
Good to see you back, Masamune! Glad to hear you have a more solid setup, too.
Good to see the bi-monthly anime discussion again. I haven't watched Wings of Honneamise before, but I've heard many good reviews about it. Yet another reason to watch it!
And, uh, I thought I submitted a title for myself already, "Doctor Victor West". Not like it's that important, I just don't like leaving blank spaces in profiles...

This brings up another good point. If anybody would like their title or rank changed, please, let me know. I'll be happy to change it for you to whatever you like (rank within reason; I don't care about general/colonel/lieutenant/whatever, but please no "supreme overlord of the cosmos").

Took my vacation last week, so I piled up some L.E. Modesitt Jr. (catching up on Recluce) and loaded my bag with a pile of animu + my laptop and went camping.
Ended up reading more books than I have in the past year ^^;

He's one of the few sci-fi writers with a large enough vocab that I've had to grab a dictionary every now and then. Especially liked his Thomas Covenant series ^^

Otherwise, nice to see a new thread, I only just recently caught up on this season so it's kinda right on time (as I was thoroughly behind on everything).
Not sure if I'll get to Wings of Honneamise , the last time I saw it I fell asleep halfway through- which may or may not have had much to do with the movie- but I can't help feeling apathetic about it =\

Hey, lolis with katanas are awesome, and I don't care about their home country.
Hey guys I'd like to formally apply for membership to the club, do I have to sign a contract with my blood or something?
Of course you do. It'd also be nice to share some spare organs for medical purposes.
So, how long ep. 3 was? Was the first day more interesting than in previous episodes? Because the first two episodes got way more better in day 2 for me, and I hope that it gets fixed in some way.
Started reading Cross Channel today, and it seems that it's as good as they say. Taichi is one of the funniest protagonists I've ever seen in a visual novel, and his inner monologues alone are good enough to keep reading. And I haven't read it that much.
I also started watching Pandora Hearts again, and it still manages to surprise me from time to time. And it has delicious Alice.
Yo guys, don't think I'm dead or anything, I still exist, lol.
Hey, welcome back! You had only 6 posts on the last thread, so I moved you to Friends. If you want to be a member again, just say the word. Just so long as this doesn't become your only post. Care to share a little more with us? How've you been?
@Atobe:
Sure thing! Just tell me what you want your title to be and I'll add you up there.
@Kuroyanagi:
Sweet! I have all of the books in the Recluse series so far, and all of the Thomas Covenant books too. Have you read any of David Farland's "Runelords"? Or anything else you'd recommend?
Edit: A bit of very sad news. It appears that the creator of Crayon Shin-chan, Yo5hito Usui, has died due to falling off a cliff while hiking in Gunma prefecture. He was 51. *moment of silence*
wow i must really be a bastard, i was reading your post and thought the poor guy must have died from old age or illness, but then you tell me he fell of a cliff and i start chuckling.... i feel like Oga from Beelzebub

You may be a bastard, but you're one of the best, friendliest bastards I know.
I'm still working on the clan banner... I'm gonna go get Pizza Hut when they open at 11:00 in two hours. I discovered I had more money in the bank than I thought I had yesterday. Curse them for not opening sooner! *grumbles*
Witch is golden dreamer,
It's magical Gohda chef...
Ahem.
So, can anyone recommend me a manga to read? My favorite ones are Franken Fran, JoJo and Hellsing, so I guess some excess violence is velcome as long as it has something beside it.
Drifters has been nice although it has way too little updating... Beelzebub is comedy together with lots of fighting...Toriko for those who enjoy extreme stupidity with Fighting as a side dish?
Dragonball???

Have you read the manga version of Akira? It's on the top of my list of favorites. Otherwise, I haven't been impressed with what I've read lately (the little I do read).
Eh... I barely made it through the second episode of Maid Guy. Just not feeling this one, though I can watch more episodes if you think it will change anything. And for the record, I am a guy that loves his fan service and absurd humor (do we discuss it at will, or do we wait to talk about the Anime of the Week at a certain date).
I'll go watch Royal Space Force I guess.
Speaking of old anime, Fist of the North Star is up on Hulu. Makes me proud.
New rank for me please: Covert Operations Specialist
Actually Kamen no Maid Guy gets a LOT better by episode 3 onwards, when he starts showing off the insane powers and stuff (actually isnt episode 3 where he battles the Kunoichi? if so thats a definite must watch its hilarious)

The discussion bit is for the "Current Anime to Watch". Sorry if that wasn't clear. The "Anime of the Week" is just something I do occasionally any more. It's a bit behind right now, which is why I wanted to do a new one.
I do recommend watching the third episode. 2 is what sold me on the series (the "Maid Guy Connect" thing), so if you're not convinced, I don't know what to tell you, but my general rule of thumb with stuff I'm not sure about is to watch 3 episodes.
What the ****. I am hoping that was not some sort of spoiler or I am going to be completely livid.
Ah, of course it isn't. It's just a popular joke based on these lyrics. Of course, many people consider Gohda one of the key characters now, and that adds to his image of a joke (?) character. You just can't take him seriously after watching Chaotic Umineko or seeing some of the fan art.
Sweet! I have all of the books in the Recluse series so far, and all of the Thomas Covenant books too. Or anything else you'd recommend?
If you haven't picked up "Imager" by L.E. Modesitt I'd recommend it. It's a lot like Recluce in that Modesitt recycles the plot from most of his recluse books (i.e. Protagonist finds he has a power of some sort and sets off to do stuff).
Have you read any of David Farland's "Runelords"?
Yup. I loved the concept, the whole idea of having lords running around drawing on the talents of their subjects was interesting and well executed. Recently read "Warbreaker" by Brian Sanderson which was kinda similar in that people could take 'breaths' (more or less their color/life force) from others.
Lately I've been reading Mike Carey's Felix Castor series (about exorcists in a modern day setting); it's similar to the Dresden Files (in a good way;definitely recommended).
Anyhoo...
Animu ... erm ...
Caught up on Spice and Wolf II, and I'm already thoroughly dissapointed at how quickly it's ending, especially given how little has actually happened in the first eleven episodes. It's basically been two short story arcs about Lawrence getting himself into trouble with Horo and in some sort of trade deal. The current trade he's going through on the furs just seems doomed to failure, and the whole deal with him
pawning off Horo (lol @ selling gods)
just doesn't seem to bode well. At this point I'm just hoping they don't take as long to release a sequel -_-"
Also picked up Basquash for no good reason, and the whole saturday morning cartoon (w/boobs) vibe is not working as they reach the climax and mumble ad nauseum about the Legend. Three episode left and I still don't understand why I keep watching this O_o

I found out that the Kyoto International Manga Museum has unveiled a huge new statue of Osamu Tezuka's Phoenix. It just so happens that A) the entire Phoenix DVD box set sits in my backpack unwatched at this very moment, from a sale during my month home in America and B) I live about 20 minutes walking distance from the Kyoto International Manga Museum. Woo! I am going to plop in my DVDs for the rest of the day, and then head over there tomorrow and check out the exhibit.
There are days where I just absolutely love living in Japan.
Hum, I was thinking about watching Phoenix, if only because Saya no Uta was inspired by one of its stories. Alas, it's pretty hard to find it here because it's that old. Oh well.
I also see that Otakingu likes BRS, too. I wonder if the upcoming anime is at fault here?
