Hey. What do y'all think about joining the newest clan contest? I think we might be active enough for it to be somewhat viable this time around.
Clan Contest 2009 #2: Eurodance? Looks like fun, I'll go sign us up (right now the thread appears to be closed for some reason, I'll PM the creator to figure out what's what)
Note on Plumeveil: I play MUC ~ as long as I play MtG and am arrived at a point were I don't play creatures other than two Trinket Mages and no speedbumps as Steel Golem, Phyrexian Ironfoot or even Spire Golem and now Plumeveil. Reason is that a creature light deck like MUC leads to the op. holding his mostly useless removal (next to) all game long. If now a speedbump enters the stage - zack-slosh - it's gone. This 'problem' is also a problem of red burn decks as you might know. Now MUC has an advantage over Burn in that it can run finishers and then each spell of removal less in the op.'s hand is welcome.
In my case I don't run such a finisher, thus playing speedbumps lose that advantage and other options, like Propaganda, become more viable.
Long post, short gist: Plumeveil is to consider over Propaganda if you run creatures as finishers. If not stay away from it, unless you look at it as Psionic Blast variant.
Sidenote: Nonetheless I bought a playset of 'em (along DvD and some unc for my future Zur EDH deck) today and 'Flaumschleier' sounds way more cute than Plumeveil ^^
Edit: Mind if I collect quotes on MUC for its casual primer thread?
Good points on Plumeveil; I too would definitely consider it less if I were not running creatures as my win condition.
I just finished a small "primer" on the MUC variant, "The Three Wise Men" I posted last page, here's the link to it in the Developing Competitive section: http://forums.mtgsalvation.com/showthread.php?t=156862
We can probably add it to the MUC Official Primer as one of the many variants that can be ran.

I'm not exactly sure what you're asking here. Also, the primer is ideally going to be competitive, with a casual subsidiary, as it's a primer after all.
I speak of this little gem I brought to life; and asked if you would mind if I made a post containing quotes of you (the members) concerning MUC if something interesting rises here. *thrice 'if' - wow, typically U I guess*
You might be interested in reading my primer, also I would greatly appreciate your thoughts/critique on/for it.

Each reality is but the dream of another, and each sleeper a god unknowing.
We define the boundaries of reality; they don't define us.
That's a pretty wonderful write-up Blutsau! I'll take a nice read at it and leave you some comments when I've got some more time over this weekend, been rather busy lately x_x. Just signed us all up officially for the current clan contest by the way, here's the thread explaining the contest: http://forums.mtgsalvation.com/showthread.php?t=156735
Alright, I'm busy likely til Saturday- for those of you who are FNM'ing tomorrow night, have a wonderful time and enjoy taking control of your games and countering your opponent's plans *daydreams about a new cool mostly-blue, gold rare coming out in this new set*
Xanth, your thread title just makes me die for a decent shroud creature to be printed in ARB so it doesn't eat it to Path to Exiles, O-Rings, Malestrom Pulses, Terminates, Terrors, Bant Charms, and who knows what else
The card is an overcosted Hill Giant against aggro. It cannot be maindecked by a sane man.
It's fun in EDH. It's nice against control. It basically scales up as your opponent's tricks get more complex. But if they don't play along, it does nothing.
. . . I own two.

I've heard that extended faeries has been using this as tech against TEPS. I've also heard that TEPS players will sideboard 1-of Phage the Untouchable as a answer to that;)
Hm. We could hit this one milling style.
One card that would be fun would be Wizened Snitches.
Or if we make this deck light on the creatures, we could always just throw in a few Inkwell Leviathans to dig up. Also, Pact of Negation to protect the Leviathan. Perhaps bounce and counters to keep the path for Leviathan open?
To know what is on top of thelib is next to useless with the Performance, I admit it's better to know the card than to not know it but that doesn't justify the inefficence that is a 1/3 flyer for 4. We have to manipulate what is ontop of the library to get a decent effect out of this.
Milling is not a good idea unless we filter out (next to) all creatures out of the lib before TP but then we'd have probably won anyways.
It is obvious as I type this deck, that it is not standard. I have been playing since Fifth Edition / Portal and I have cards even older than that. At this point in my life, I don't feel I need to keep up with the game as much as WOTC demands me to be.
This deck is pretty straight forward; Become a prick to your opponent. In fact, after the third or foruth opponent that faced the deck, the overall “prick” factor came out, and I knew I had the name for the deck.
I have never asked if this deck is control. Then again, it is mono blue (what else?) and I think it controls the board, a bit too well. The idea of the deck is solid, even if the record for the deck is not.
Then again, this is the perfect deck to show you “how I roll”.
Prick deck 1.5 (If someone can show me how to use the Deck Tag, would be nice.):
4 power sink
4 escape artist
4 force spike
4 counterspell
4 rewind
4 manta riders
4 seas claim
4 propaganda*
4 metathran soldier
4 psychic venom
20 Island
This deck has had a few changes, and I welcome changes that keep the “prick” nature of the deck intact: In fact, I have simplified the deck list by one or two cards to illustrate the main idea of the deck.
1.Slow down spell casting, either mana side, or counter side.
2.Slow down attacking (Propaganda)
3.Evasion
*Just a note here for Propaganda I love this card. LOVE IT. I feel it is underrated. The abillity stacks per each copy you have in play, and it is for EACH attacking creature.
Psychic venom and Sea's claim slow down and lock up what your opponent wants to do. After that, counter what can get cast. (Did someone say Prick?)
Unblockable and Flying at will allows you to skip traditional combat altogether.
Clone and Morphling have been in the deck at one time. I feel both cards and cards like it allow a plan B for things that hit the table.
I love the idea of having twiddle in the deck on top of a venomed land. Or a venomed city of brass.
Oooh a fun card for the contest! I definitely think we should go for a milling strategy combined with a controlling strategy, here's some cards I suggest for a pool from which we can devise a decklist (of course, we have to keep it monoblue :xd:):
Dominus of Fealty and Gather Specimens go hand in hand with Telemin Performance's idea of stealing your opponent's creatures, and also serve as integral mill components through Sanity Grinding, which can be a mill powerhouse.
Mind Over Matter also fits very nicely with Sanity Grinding, but also helps provide us both control and mana to cast all our expensive spells (Lotus Vale will help especially in this department, turning every card in our hand into a Blue Dark Ritual :evillol:).
Memory Lapse is also fun with Telemin Performance- they play a big creature that you want really badly? Memory Lapse it, then Telemin Performance them next turn Also, Twincast is great with Sanity Grinding, Telemin Performance, and Stroke of Genius.
What do you guys think of this direction? Either way, I think I will make a deck like this IRL as it looks rather fun Too bad I own zero Cryptic Commands Can't wait for them to rotate out! Hah! They'll drop in value sooo much
I've heard that extended faeries has been using this as tech against TEPS. I've also heard that TEPS players will sideboard 1-of Phage the Untouchable as a answer to that;)
LOL if we Telemin Performance out a Phage, that will make my day :xd:
To know what is on top of thelib is next to useless with the Performance, I admit it's better to know the card than to not know it but that doesn't justify the inefficence that is a 1/3 flyer for 4. We have to manipulate what is ontop of the library to get a decent effect out of this.
Milling is not a good idea unless we filter out (next to) all creatures out of the lib before TP but then we'd have probably won anyways.
Anyway, I'm not too big a fan of this. I mean, I could build a deck that uses it, but its kind of a hard card to build around. I mean, its just so inefficient. If we're going to the trouble of using Lapse of Certainty to steal a creature, we might as well use Persuasion. No offense, but that particular build around seems kind of pointless.
Thats why I'd personally want to find a way to abuse this to mill heavily, but I cant think of anything really. Anyone know any cards that turn all cards in the library into non-creatures?
@Xanth and really everyone else too:
Game rules say the deck has to be Extended legal I believe. No Counterspell or Force of Will D:

Now I'm starting to like this. It might be crazy, but hot dang, I think we could make a build to do just that, Xanth. Plus, it would be fun.
Two cards that may me useful: Bitter Ordeal to search through their library and see what we need to target. Traumatize serves the same purpose (seeing what needs to be targeted I mean), but helps Extirpate.
Also, seeing as this is all very expensive, we might be interested in mana accel.
Hello all. I am back from the dead. Sort of...mostly just coming to say sorry again for the absence. For now I have quit Magic, retaining my collection should the time occur that i decide to continue.
Like the new layout and such. I may still poke in now and then to see how you all are. See you around.
Otherwise, "swenka1" on Xfireif you have it and wanna hit me up. Just put something in like "Mono-Blue Clan" if your name isn't obvious.
Look, guys, as I said: The card is useless against your basic aggro deck unless it tried to be cool and ran a trump card. Like Deus of Calamity.
The only way to justify this being maindeck is if we are okay with what it does for five mana against almost half the field - give you a 3/2 or some crap.
In addition to that, we have to make sure we can exploit its ability to win the game. As a card that grabs an opponent's creature, this is inferior to Bribery and, yes, Persuasion. We should not be trying to set up a nice pull with Performance, but rather, set up the mill win.
This is extended... so maybe some black options relating to Zombies would help... somehow.
Is there some way to exploit an opponent who has mostly noncreatures in his grave? We can't count on there being a lot in there, just proportionally many.
I think we should go all in for the mill and run things like Condemn.
OH! And I saw a guy who used a gimmick to make a Neverending Torment deck work... although it was in Highlander, I think. What was it...
@Meeko: I don't understand your post. Does it have something to do with the clan contest?

I get on Xfire usually every time I am playing something, only time I really get off is when my laptop is shut down or when I log off to try and help lag issues.
How does one become a member of the Mono Blue Clan?
I've been playing blue since I first started playing magic 10 years ago and it's always been my favorite color. So what better place to share my love and knowledge of Blue amirite?
I think it's clear I can be impartial on this.

some ideas:
staying blue:
Bamboozle,Portent& Second Sight (good song), Hinderblack:
Elemental Augury, Dimir Machinations &Misinformationwhite: Æthertow, Lapse of Certainty
-> I would go UW control.
One card that would be fun would be Wizened Snitches.

Meeko will now refer to the time when MAGIC entered the "beginning of the end step".
Magic 2010.
-Telemin Performance
-Sanity Grinding
-Mind Over Matter
-Counterspell
-Force of Will
-Lotus Vale (particularly nice with Mind Over Matter)
-Stroke of Genius
-Dominus of Fealty
-Cryptic Command
-Gather Specimens
-Memory Lapse
-Twincast
Dominus of Fealty and Gather Specimens go hand in hand with Telemin Performance's idea of stealing your opponent's creatures, and also serve as integral mill components through Sanity Grinding, which can be a mill powerhouse.

*edit: Just realized the contest requires the deck to be Extended Legal That means the following are out:
-Mind Over Matter
-Counterspell
-Force of Will
-Lotus Vale
-Stroke of Genius
D'oh >.<
@Meebo: you might want to give Sigil of Sleep and/or Curiosity a shot
LOL if we Telemin Performance out a Phage, that will make my day :xd:
Wow. I should have read the card better.
Anyway, I'm not too big a fan of this. I mean, I could build a deck that uses it, but its kind of a hard card to build around. I mean, its just so inefficient. @Xanth and really everyone else too:

Well, we could go :symu::symb: and run cards like:
-Lobotomy
-Counterbore
-Eradicate
-Extirpate
-Quash
-Cranial Extraction
And use these elements to remove all the creatures from our opponent's deck, then win with a single Telemin Performance.
....and yes, all these cards are Extended-legal this time
*edit: would be rather hilarious when we Cranial Extraction for our opponents' "key contest card" :xd:
Two cards that may me useful:
Bitter Ordeal to search through their library and see what we need to target.
Traumatize serves the same purpose (seeing what needs to be targeted I mean), but helps Extirpate.

Too bad Haunting Echoes is not Extended-legal

What do your normally play via XFire?
I feel like that is the direction we're already going now...?
Neverending Torment is a great suggestion.
Also makes me remember Nightmare Incursion, another perfect card for us. Easy to splash, and we just need to run some Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoths
