I used to like to draft, but then I joined a magic club where all we ever do is draft. Nobody has the money to put 60 card decks together because it's a college student club. After two years straight of drafting, it is no longer fun. I want to play 60 cards again. Not 40, not 100. And some of the older students have managed to put together some Legacy decks. Unfortunately, you need eight to sanction. We have five.
As for extended season, I stopped getting excited about extended season when Legacy became popular. Now that the Extended cuts remove most of the cards I own from the equation, it's not worth even following.
I have a problem with Aaron Forsythe's general attitude towards Magic. Control, combo, and creature-based strategies have an equal role in shaping Magic. It should definitely not be all about creatures. And part of the appeal of eternal formats is that you do get to play a different kind of Magic from the sort you play in a sealed deck tournament. Retrofitting extended and eternal formats to make eternal formats conform to today's standards of creature-friendly, beginner-friendly intuitive Magic does not make them more accessible. Reprinting the staples and lowering the opportunity cost makes them accessible.
I went undefeated in the swiss of 4 rounds while drawing in round 4 to the top 4. Then the top 4 players decided to split 4 packs each which was good since it was getting pretty late. Me and my opponent decided to play for 4th/3rd for fun though and I won 2-0 against his green deck which was actually quite fast and it was strong. I won against one of the top players in my area that plays several T2 decks that are viable for Pro tour circuits and drafts a ton. I didn't really wanted to be a jerk so I agreed to do the top 4 split among the other three players.
My deck worked pretty well. I felt it was one of the best decks there. It could punish players that can't draw what they need to win. Also, the most broken cards in my deck were Raid Bombardment, Magmaw and Emrakul's Hatcher. Hatcher enabled me to cloud the ground with a bunch of tokens so I can be on the defensive and also on the offensive. I shouldn't of passed on the other Magmaw but it's alright. Magmaw was my most valueble card since he can do a few points of damage each turn especially when I have tokens in play.
Overall, I had a blast playing and I was pretty happy with my deck.
Way to T4, Cecilia! It's also great to see you again!
... but on that note, this place is getting a little quiet! Geez, I hope I didn't scare everyone away! Where's Omna??? I'll start making a mess in here if nobody's here to supervise me!
So I just saw Toy Story again, this time in IMAX! Has anyone else watched it? I want to hear some of your thoughts on it! Next movie I'm looking forward to: The Last Airbender. I'm almost certain the movie is going to suck but I was a huge fan of the cartoon so I'll have to see it. Oh, and after that is Christopher Nolan's Inception which looks super cool. I love summer! Any summer releases that anyone else is looking forward to?

Lol, your funny.
Nah, I doubt you scared anyone off. I am pretty sure everyone is really busy nowadays.
Also, thanks, its definitely good to see you too.
Sounds like you having a pretty awesome summer vacation so far!
Anyway, I gotta get going to summer school, I have to retake calculus 4 blah.
i remember some black guy once called me called me cracker i didnt know what he was meaning. but them i found out that it is a Racially motivated term for white people, based on the fact that we're the same color as Saltines.
To Purple- I just saw Toy Story 3 last weekend and I have to admit, it was AWESOME I loved it It just dealt with Toy Story's entire story arc absolutely perfectly
Hope everyone else is doing well and that your 4th was equally as great Myself, I'm relaxing at home and just waiting for the gov't to get back to me about my job so obviously I'm a little nervewracked

I hope so! It's weird that nobody has been posting lately... I'm used to hustle and bustle in the Coffeehouse!

Censored
There shall be no discussion of the "c" word or any other word pertaining to school during the summer.
Haha, just kidding. But in all seriousness, that sucks that you need to retake the course! Did you fail it the first time or just not complete it or what?
Predators definitely. Had to keep your choice of indigo text PurpleD, gives you style, another whole meaning to flavor text.
Thanks! Welcome to the Coffeehouse. I haven't heard of Predators yet but maybe I'll go look it up.
So I went and saw The Last Airbender and... wow, what a complete pile of ****. Normally I'm not so harsh on movies but not only was this a flaming bag of poop, but it also completely neglected all the things that made the original cartoon amazing. They butchered the names, changed key plot points, and completely neglected the messages of tolerance and equality (among races AND sexes) for some special effects. Boooooo... so disappointed

I'm glad you loved it too! Bah, everything about that movie is perfect. Though now that Toy Story is over and the final two Harry Potter movies are due to be released, I feel like my childhood is becoming obsolete! Speaking of the new HP, I hope everyone has seen the new trailer! It's still not enough to convince me that there'll be enough good content for two whole movies, but only time will tell!
Im away for two to three months and we already have a new thread?
Well I figure I need to start getting back to my old friends here.
other news:
Sorta on vacation
@Toy Story 3: I felt it wrapped up it perfectly.
@Other Pixar news: I'm rather disappointed that Cars 2 is next and not Incredibles 2, because I thought Cars was rather summed up well while you were still wondering about Jack Jack and whats gunna go on with the Mole Man and such.
@My Life: Gunna go apply for a job once I'm back home.
@PurpleD: Thanks for the heads up with Airbender movie, I was wondering if it was even gunna be worth seeing in theatres, now I know I can just rent it instead of wasting 20$.
@Lorthos: Welcome
I think that's it for now, I'll try to come back in a bit.

Yeah, I heard it was completely disappointing, which is sad. I haven't seen it myself, not compelled enough to sit through a potentially bad movie nor pay $10. I work at a video store so maybe I'll watch it in ~ 3 Months.

I really want to go to the m11 prerelease but I won't have any money this time. Bummer, I really like playing limited on a competitive level.
@PurpleD: Yeah, the coffeehouse is still very much alive but not as nearly as active as it used to be. I missed those days but people have lives to attend.

I've seen in at a midnight screening the night it came out. And boy is it goooooood. OK... maybe too many o's for what I really thought of it. But still good movie.
I've been through Richland. I feel sorry for you Ceci. Living in a desert I suppose is all right because it provides fewer distractions for you if you're trying to ace a bonehead calc session over the summer. :|

@Inception: looks interesting.
Hehe, thanks for the sentiment and I still have alot of distractions namely the internet and ps3 but I guess it's not that bad.
They actually cancelled my calc class because there weren't that many people taking it so I signed up for linear algebra or rather my dad forced me too... blah.
Also congrats Sterling Angel...I won't steal your thunder but tell them what's going on, EH?
I know I don't pay attention to the forums much these days but I gotta admit I'm interested to hear what's goin on.
As for me, things with the political campaign seem to be kicking in high gear. Definitely keeping me busy these days. Like this past week I went to help out at the booth at the Clinton County Fair this year. Dunno what's next on the agenda but it should be interesting.
Oh and before I forget this link, this one's for Omna if she still drops by here. This is one of those sites I was trying to think of a while ago about exposing your writing: http://ficly.com/
Hey guys. I haven't posted on here in a while. I've grown distant from MTGSalvation, and from MTG in general--so much so, that I am selling the rest of my Magic cards.
I am in a desperate financial situation and I need money for food, gas, rent, etc. I don't have a lot of cards left but I have a good number of money cards left. I sent my list to Tenzo (since he bought my cards earlier) but he hasn't posted a reply yet.
As for me... I need to find a job by the end of the year or I'll be forced to move back in with my parents. I'll be getting some money near the end of the month for school loans (which are rapidly depleting) but that's the situation. If anyone is willing to help, please contact me.
* Alacar Leoricar waves to everyone
Hope things are going well for y'all. Glad to see good news from SDA and Sterling Angel.
Hi Ala, hope things are going to turn out ok for you. At least you have someplace to go, it may not be the best...I sure hope you get something soon though. Building back your independence is hard after you have to go home.
We're sort of in a financial slump here too. I'm pushing out resumes as fast as I can click and the old man's getting jerked around a lot at work.
I applied for a volunteer position at the local hospital and hope they can line me up something good. It is first come first serve, the pre-meds get their pick and then the also-rans. I might be doing elder care interviews or something like that. BTW, volunteering is hands down the best way to get in the job market. It allows you to be unemployed as all get-out and still be able to claim on your job app that you are not unemployed. And that's important because nobody will hire you if you aren't currently doing something.
I hope things improve for you SDA, but I am glad you're still on your feet.
Good news, though--I got a job! I'm working for Toys R Us overnight. They're remodeling to add a Babies R Us and I hope to start working soon. It's $7.25 an hour and I plan on working hard there. The benefit is that I get to hold onto my magic cards for now.. whew!
Hey fellas! I'm BAAAAAAAAAACK Sorry I haven't been around much lately...but this morning I was groggily waking up and not looking forward to making phone calls to the credit agency and the rental office, for maintenance issues...
Meanwhile I'm STILL waiting on the government job... I flew to MD early this month for the polygraph and psych consult, and when I got back, according to my friends who also work for that same branch, they all said it'd be about 2-4 weeks/a month before i heard whether i have to fly to MD again and retake the poly... (it was kind of ridiculous... they thought I had done drugs, when in actuality i swear, i've never touched the stuff!) and so i might have to take it again, which apparently isn't that big a deal cuz most people have to retake it at least once, and they allow you to, no problem... but sheesh. I didn't lie about anything! Sooo yeah. We'll have to see. But yeah, I came back and asked my HR rep about how much longer it'd be before i heard about the next step, and he said "expect to hear from us again in 2 months" TWO MONTHS!??!?!? AGH! That means I won't hear anything until OCTOBER?! But my boyfriend made a point, that it might just be "UP TO two months" ... which is what I'm hoping.... and cuz I have a lot of credit accounts from when i was young and stupid in college, not paying off all my hospital bills... so my Dad paid off a big chunk of them but apparently i still have two or three more that i had no idea about, that i need to call them again today and make sure they send me the forms so i can fax them to the gov't and etc....OY.
Meanwhile, I got a canvas letter from a public library in the area, from when I took that civil service exam back at the end of April, and so I intend to apply for that, so I just need to wait for them to contact me about an interview... I sent it early last week, so maybe I'll call them again today too.
Well that's pretty much what's going on with me... Hope everyone's doing well:)
Some of us do, but I for one am a writer We welcome all sorts here though How are you ? Glad to see someone popping by in here.. Things've gotten sorta slow here these days.
Hey guys... I've had one hell of a week and it's only the end of Tuesday. Monday was the first day of college classes and it was busy, but I got to hang out with Daidream later. Today was.. well, another class, and then busy busy at home. We finally moved my stuff into a bedroom from the living room in this house, since I have my first room mate here moving in tomorrow. Hopefully it won't be a problem. Even then, tomorrow I have my second day of work as WELL as school classes so I know my feet are gonna be killing me. I work Wed, Thur, and Friday... whew.
Also, I gave in and got Magic Online. Their starting collection is damn impressive, actually. Since I hardly play with anyone in person these days, I figure I'll give MTGO a try.
As for extended season, I stopped getting excited about extended season when Legacy became popular. Now that the Extended cuts remove most of the cards I own from the equation, it's not worth even following.

I made top 4 with this list:
17 Mountain
Creatures
2 Runed Servitor
2 Goblin Arsonist
2 Grotag Siege-Runner
4 Goblin Tunneler
1 Magmaw
3 Emrakul's Hatcher
1 Battle-Rattle Shaman
2 Lagac Lizard
2 Raid Bombardment
Equipment
1 Ogre's Cleaver
Control
1 Traitorous Instinct
1 Heat Ray
1 Forked Bolt
I had a sideboard which had 3 Hand of Emrakul, Penon Blade, and Spawning Breath. I didn't really use much of my board though so I decided to leave that out.
I went undefeated in the swiss of 4 rounds while drawing in round 4 to the top 4. Then the top 4 players decided to split 4 packs each which was good since it was getting pretty late.
