Thought there was going to be another something about the CMB tournament by now. At this point, considering the sparcity of communication we probably need to give a shout out in the council thread and give people a week. I've got my list ready, though I do wish that Ice Age had been allowed. If it was, I had this ready:
@175: Looks like a set of solid cards, but your curve is crazy high. Maybe cut some 5-6 drops for something like Sign in Blood, Wall of Omens, or Grim Discovery.
@Brengara: Acceleration is good if it sticks around. Using rituals for things that don't just endthegame is bad. To do it right you might end up needing more costly cards, but it'll actually work against people who keep keepable hands.
@Darth: Have you ever played against Martyr recursion before? The despair grows thick enough to drink. That it uses Plains is merely a further deception.
@Darth: Have you ever played against Martyr recursion before? The despair grows thick enough to drink. That it uses Plains is merely a further deception.
Yeah. The decks I like to play typically have a good match-up against them
@Fio/Brengara: LD can certainly work in the current format. My U/G mana denial deck brutalized control decks in the area until they started playing something else (and then I switched decks ). Against decks with high land counts you just need the ability to end the game cleanly once you've got them unbalanced (Wolfbriar Elemental/Garruk Wildspeaker) or get setup to continually destroy lands (Jace, the Mind Sculptor bouncing Acidic Slime/Mold Shambler). The current control decks play so many lands because the card advantage is so easy to come buy that the only risk is lack of flux (i.e. the ability to utilize all your available cards). If a control deck doesn't miss a land drop up to turn 10, it's probably doing fine.
I could probably toss you a more budget LD list, but if you really want to do right by it you'll likely want Cobras.
@Darth BunnyCertain flavors of combo or control can pretty much ignore Martyr, but it does crush a lot of decks. It is also awkward to hate against, though there's a couplecards that make things difficult.
Hey sorry I haven't been around for a while, I had like the ☺☺☺☺tiest week of my life and I quit magic for like 2 months, and I'm getting back into it now to help distract me from the outside world. Starting from scratch and I have like 2/3 of a deck built.

@everyine: I don't think you guys truely got my tone lol, i want to make an LD for fun and maybe play it at an FNM or 2 to try it. Mono black is my competitive deck, R/G LD is my fun deck for standard.
about the ritual.. i know... i was just showing that it is possible. And you all made me feel like I'm an idiot for even thinking about it's possibility
@Fio It seemed like you were talking down to me, and that made me feel like a sad panda. Also i assume you're plays were in vintage?
Also as to what to Dark rit into. I think, thoughseize + hymm is almost always the best play (against almost any deck). rit into hippy is legendary, but i think it jsut isn't as powerful as it used to be
@Harbinger of Vermin. I am making a budget friendly one because it is a sub-competative deck. I might see about later pumping it to competative but i'm gunna stick with my nature and get every last bug out of my mono black aggro and mono black control deck
Question to everyone: What is the new Deck to beat in standard?

The spike in me shows through pretty easily, and spike freaks out when it comes to card disadvantage If you do want ideas about a deck, even a budgetized one, I can help out (Splinter Twin + Acidic Slime ftw!).
Going by the recent PTQ in Japan, 6 out of the top 8 ran Primeval Titan, though there were 3 different decks he was in (other 2 were 1 RDW and 1 Super Friends). U/G Turboland, G/R Valakut, and Destructive Force all grabbed the guy, and he is ridiculous.
Highlights of what I noticed. Shade is Shade. Leyline of Sanctity is broke. Conundrum Sphinx has a very relevant P/T for it's mana cost as a flyer and is simply being overlooked because people don't like it's other ability. Cyclops Gladiotor seems exactly like something red needs right now, and he's a baloth for a color that doesn't get them often. Destructive Force is a deck. Fauna Shaman is the hotness with Vengevine and is showing up in Conscription lists. Primeval Titan is the most expensive card in the set, and it's value is apt to go up. Obstinate Baloth is crazy efficient. Mystifying Maze is very powerful for how low of an opportunity cost it has (and is another card I expect to increase in price).
...what I wanted to say was that LD is already difficult to do with extended cards. In T2, decks runs a huge amount on lands, seems difficult to destroy them all.
The flipside to that is that curves in extended (i.e. what used to be extended... not the gutted husk of a format they're advertising now) tended to be a LOT lower. I've kept 1 land hands in extended because I knew I was still going to have a relevant play for my first 5 turns. In T2 you can generally get by just keeping them off a 4th land or their second white mana until you play something bomby that they don't have the means to deal with.
That's easy to deal with! Just don't play typed lands.
Honestly, Inkwell Leviathan would be scarier. I played 7/10 dude in my Karn EDH deck because even if someone hit me with Bribery/Acquire for him, my mana base was completely unaffected.
I only play on the weekends! Pre-release/release events over the past couple weeks haven't left a lot of time. That said, got a package in the mail today.
It's actually a foil, so it's got this dark glimmer to it that's really cool.
I got one for you. Just happened actually. In a 3-way game, the generals were Doran, Tibor and Lumia (as a holder for Niv-Mizzet until he got one) and my own Kaervek. I get an early Shriekmaw + Grafted Wargear and start going to town. Much later, I drop a Vein Drinker with a Puppet Strings out. I start activating it twice a turn and begin to nuke the board with her. I get her to be an 11/11 before I ignore an impending army of 6 1/1 Saprolings and start beating face, flashing in a Bogardan Hellkite to kill a very vengeful Hellkite Charger. After a player ends up killing my entire board, I EOT the Hellkite back, hitting the T/L playervia Strands of Night. The life totals at this point: Me 35, Doran 4, Tibor/Lumia 9. I entwine a Savage Beating and proceed to win a game by a landslide. I played a total of 3 creatures and my general the entire game.
This is my first deck after quitting for a while, what do you guys think?
When I first put together a Destructive Force list I also started with 4x Awakening Zone, but I was decidedly unimpressed by it. 4x Cultivate is where it's at. When a friend asked me what I thought was the best card in M11, I said Cultivate (I think he was expecting me to name a rare ). Also, if you can dig up any Knight of the Reliquary, they are amazing (and always survive Destructive Force).
@Fio: That Kaervek is a $40 bulk rare.
@SA: I love Grafted Wargear. It can double as a sac outlet if you need it to! Also, what's up with the BYOS?
Hey guys, I came up with a MBC casual deck that easily says "back off or I'll beat you up" using attrition and reassembling skeleton as an engine. why for casual? I figured skullclamp was synergistic enough to include as a 3-of regardless of the B/R list. Here's what I came up with:
I watched the new one for the first couple seasons but lost cable for awhile and didnt get to see it so now I'm so far behind that I need to start over again.

Wow.. just wow... I was playing on MWS testing out my mono black standard deck. Now, as a bit of a 1st game hate, i run 1 Leyline of the void and 2 hexmages.
1st game against this dude... i get my void in hand, so i drop it.. i get "lol at maindeck void. Player lost"
I couldn't stop laughing, I figured some other black enthusiasts would get a laugh out of this as well (he dropped and island before he left btw)
do you think running the 1 leyline and 2 hexmages pre-board is good? there are so many veggy decks and PW decks that i figured it would be put to use enough (even though it is only 3 slots)

Ready for the apocalypses? The dark side is always open
I just got back from a game of Australian Football. The team I support won. And because these are the only two teams in the state, it is very competitive. They call it the Showdown. There is always a big turnout. Today it was 38,000 I think. The other team actually has the most supporters of any club in the country, so there was a large roar when they scored a goal, which wasn't too often.
Another thing: I can't wait until tomorrow night for the new doctor who. Who else watches doctor who?
I've been meaning to, but never got around to it. Who are the most interesting characters? How many seasons are there? What kind of show is it (sci-fi)?
I've been meaning to, but never got around to it. Who are the most interesting characters? How many seasons are there? What kind of show is it (sci-fi)?
Well there's the doctor who's interesting. Everyone else cycles in and out, but they're generally cool when they're there, and ally of it is how they relate to the doctor. There are twenty-some seasons of it, then it stopped, and there are now 5 seasons that work with or without the originals. It's sci-fi. It's really cool.
EDIT: ugh. Playing ultimate in the summer in the south kind of sucks.
PTQ last Saturday. Did pretty badly, but got some really good buys and trades (including $3 for a foil Sterling Grove and a Fauna Shaman). Also overpaid slightly for a promo Flooded Strand, mostly as I always regretted trading away the pack foil I opened 5 years ago.
My mom and I were talking about winter orb and thorn of amethyst (cut for now... Possibly sideboarded) in elves when I realized all the control elements and some of what makes it good is the tempo. What better way to gain tempo than stifling a fetch and then saying "don't untap stuff!"? Also, the arbor elf/winter orb interaction is fun. (please don't try to untap a trop with a wasteland staring at you.) thoughts? More lords is one, but any others?

It's kind of another moment when we throw our hands up and go "DAMMIT universe, why you gotta always make me look bad in front of everyone?".

If it was up to me, Ice Age would be in. Given that I have no idea what the rules even are though , I'd say this isn't our best organized event.
On a side note...a white deck? As a Harbinger of CMB? Seriously? ;):p
