You may sacrifice X nontoken blue or white creatures instead of playing Horde of Walls’ mana cost
Put X 0/7 blue and white wall tokens with defender and flying onto the battlefield.
Would you exchange a walk on part in the war for a lead role in a cage?kaeltyk Demonblack
Invasive Teaching :1mana::symu::symu:
Sorcery
You may have target opponent search his or her library for a card and put it into his or her hand rather than pay Invasive Teaching's mana cost.
Target player draws three cards then reveals his or her hand. Choose two cards from it. If you do, that player puts the chosen cards on the bottom of his or her library.
I'll edit in the render later tonight if we can complete it in time.
And, for reference, our would-be entry to round 1 (which I failed to submit by the deadline):
Rheplika, Dream Thief :1mana::symu::symu::symu:
Legendary Creature - Human Wizard
:symu::symu:: Exile Rheplika, Dream Thief. Return it to the battlefield under its owner's control at the beginning of the next end step.
When Rheplika enters the battlefield, if you didn't cast it from your hand, target opponent reveals his or her hand. You may copy an instant or sorcery card in it and cast it without paying its mana cost. By the time you see her, she's already sealed your fate...

Crashing Cacophony URG
Instant [Rare]
You may return a creature you control to its owner's hand, discard a card at random, and sacrifice a forest rather than pay Crashing Cacophony's mana cost.
Crashing Cacophony deals 3 damage to each creature and player. Tap all creatures dealt damage by Crashing Cacophony. Those creatures don't untap during their controller's next untap step. If a forest falls and no one survives, does it make a sound?
As the shimmering outline of the great Spirit Wolf coalesces at one end of the arena, an eerie hush settles over the assembled crowd. His head lowered, he emits a low, haunting howl that increases in pitch and intensity as he raises his head to the sky...
Design 5/10
Elegance - Without an alternative cost it would have been elegant. I know that the alternative cost was a bonus requirement but it clutters up the card here especially as the situations that you would want to pay it are few and far between. I really dislike the alternative cost here.
Creativity - Token creation is nothing new but making walls is a nice twist.
Potential - Doesn't particularly call anyone but Spike would probably play it.
Development 7/10
Viability - Seems fine.
Balance - Slightly weak. I see it's main use as a 3CMC wall. It has the same problem as the first card that by the time you want to pay 5 or 7 for it, you should be playing a finisher instead.
Creative Writing - Bleh. Horde doesn't really sound U/W more Red. I'm sure the flavor text is from song but doesn't really mesh that well on the card itself.
Polish 5/5 - Meets the bonuses. Nice renders.
Total 17/25
Design 6/10
Elegance - I like how the alternative cost interacts with the ability of the card. But I don't like how the card tries to go in two different directions and doesn't really succeed at either.
Creativity - Really like the alternative cost. However the card seems like it needs black in it because of the potential for disrupting your opponents hand. If this just affected you I could see it as mono-blue but with the potential to dusrupt I don't like it.
Potential - Perhaps Johnny? I don't really know who would play this card and when.
Development 5/10
Shouldn't that say 'instead' and not 'rather'? Also it has an "If you do" clause when there was no 'may' option. So long as you don't pay the alt cost it's a good card. I don't know when I would pay the alt cost. The name fits very well with the abilities but there is no flavour text.
Polish 4/5 - No render, meets bonuses.
Total 15/25
Design - 9/10
Alternative cost is very nice although possibly overkill. Very elegant mesh of abilities with flavor. Timmy will play this in his changeling deck and Johnny will play this alongside Dragon Whelps and such. Even Spike might give it a go with the right dragons.
Development - 8/10
Nice and balanced, perhaps slightly on the weak side. Card is exploding with flavour although I think the name could be better. Very nice flavour text.
Polish 5/5 - meets bonuses, nice render.
Total 22/25
Design 4/10
Creative this is; elegant it is not. Waaay too much going on the card. It's hard enough trying to figure out the alternative cost but then I have to go do the same for the actual ability. While writing this I keep reading the card again :-/. Timmy will rip the card in confusion. Spike might play this but only if there's really good mana around. There's better sweepers and better stallers. Putting them both on one card isn ice but not so effective for the mana cost.
Development 7/10
Untap until end of next turn thing is normally a white ability. I like the flavour text. Name is meh but the overall flavour of the card is good. Pretty balanced.
Polish 5/5 Pretty render, meets bonuses.
Total 16/25
Design 8/10
Very nice interaction between alt cost and the ability. Pretty creative design. Timmy and Spike will both like this. Maybe even Johnny will figure out some counter abuse.
Development 7/10
Worried about the balance here in a big way. One-sided wrath effect is very powerful even for the mana cost. The alt cost is probably not a big deal as you're likely removing one counter from a creature that has 2 and stuff like that. It does require some preparation to abuse the card but doesn't seem that hard to do. Good flavour and name.
Polish 5/5 -meets bonus + nice render
Total 20/25
Design 5/10
Boring alt cost. Nice ability but nothing new. White does damage to attacking creatures not red - red doesn't care what state the creatures are in. Spike will play this.
Development 6/10
A little too powerful. getting rid of two 4-toughness creatures is a HUGE ability. Can't really say much on the flavor as I don't get it.
Polish 4/5 - Meets bonuses but I really dislike the art on the render
I will /barn all of this. Except I don't think you should remove points because of a missing render or because you don't like the art.
OK. Did it last time though and nobody commented ;). To be honest, I don't really understand the polish section - it seems that so long as you took more than a minute to make your card you're going to get a 5/5.
It has appeared on green before (Kamigawa block) but it was always linked to combat damage. There's also Sleep in blue.
It is primarily a White mechanic but you are right that it's appeared other places making this not such a bad transgression. Overall the main problem with the Called is just that it's a hugge cluster of abilities and costs that nobody wants to have to read through.

Polish is to check for spelling, grammer, and wording errors.

I figured it was +2 for bonus points then checking details of both the text posted and the render. -1 for no render, but -x for bad renders. Overall I don't think it matters as long as everyone is consistent. Kinda averages itself out with the top 3 and the points given out that way.

I was thinking about tangle when I pushed for that mechanic. Kinda sad that the two things you didn't really like...the no untap and the name...were both my idea. Ria made the flavor text, he'll be happy you liked that.

You think it was a coincidence I didn't like the ones you made? Hardly ;).
Something that is interesting to. Note is that if you guys had just done away with the alt cost you would have gained more points in design/development than you would have lost in polish. Same goes for the soundtrack. Something to consider for future bonus requirements.

Awww...but you and I ain't feuding. I'm already in a feuding commitment. I'll have to ask Xanth if he doesn't mind me cheeting on him in the feuding department.

I was thinking about that. We were working so hard to fit that +1 bonus point in that we were willing to make it a bit wordy. Its looking like it's costing us much more than 1 point for our effort.
I'm kind of thinking the same thing about the render actually. No render = -1. but bad render = -1 for everything wrong with it. And from what I've seen most renders have more than one thing wrong with them making me think that it might be best not to have a render.
The sleekest most elegant submission, as far as my critiques of the creatures go, seems to have been mono-blacks. I knocked it -2 for creativity, but it was simple, easy, with few flaws which ranked it high in the top 3. Other cards were more creative, but as wordiness and confusion in proper syntax built up they simply lost more points.
Seems that simplicity might be the best overall strategy...even at the loss of some creativity...

I know that ours' was one of them.
It's kinda sad that the render was perfect, but the text version was error-riddled. And the version being reviewed was the one that had been fixed up. But the render had all the right wording.
A good portion of that is someone not including rarity or P/T in the text version...
Nah, that's only -1 point from what I've seen. There's no one thing that ruins the card for them - they take off a point for polish a couple of points for having persist which admittedly doesn't work so well on this version, and a couple of points for it being underpowered and Spike/Timmy/maybe Johnny won't play it.
Like I said, we're not getting horrible ratings (17's and 18's I think), just there are better cards from our group.
EDIT: @Flew they all get gathered up here when the round is done which is in a day or so.
Speaking of which - everybody should get their ratings in quickly since there's not a huge amount of time left to submit.

Daggertooth gave us a -3 for it... -1 in polish and -2 in viability.
I've seen some other talk about it, too. I do see us popping up as #3 in people lists, though.

I actually knocked you guys down a bit more than that. Since render is optional I only see it worth points in polish and -1 if you don't have one. However, I've been viewing the text version as the solid final representation of what the card is. No rarity was a big issue, but no power/toughness actually disqualified it for me as a viable card. Otherwise it would have been one of my top 3. Rest of my clan thinks differently though and with 4 members voting you guys are fighting for third place.

Yeah I'm actually a bit surprised by how well our card is being recieved - I thought we wouldn't be making it into the top 3 but most people seem to be putting us there.
@shibui: I'm only on for the next couple of hours so I hope ZDS pops on again before the deadline (he should; there's still quite a ways to go and he normally is on early evening I think).
