I'm kinda looking at what other people are saying and there are some interesting discussions going on.
Seems the Izzet card is a big hit over in the Pack. Makes me wonder if I interpreted the card correctly because I thought I was a bit generous at 20 points. Maybe a very narrow design isn't that bad...certainly the idea is more creative than mono-blacks. I might be hung up on the idea that the vast majority of decks could care less about this card, but my burn deck would be overpowered. Get a lightning and shock in the graveyard by turn 4, exile them. Then 1CC burn gets +5 damage....Might make burn more consistent maybe.
Dragon's card seems to be a big hit too, which is surprising me. It's not bad, but I thought it was severely under costed for what it does.
People don't seem to like our card much. The family was the most critical with -6 for lack of elegance. ...and our card does lack elegance...surprised the wall scored higher. Elsewhere our card is being rated lower as well cause of the wordiness. Didn't hurt us much with the original dragon, but maybe we pressed our luck this time. Still these are just preliminary ideas within clans, a lot more time and discussion before critiques are posted. It is kinda fun going around and reading discussions.

Nobody really seems to be looking at the flavour, + that's our card's strong point. Top down design gets no love I hope the flavour text makes *somebody* smile
Still, as you said, early into the critique. . . doesn't look good though. Interesting about the idea that dropping the alt cost would have given us a better looking card. From a render perspective, that is certainly true.
Anyway, I'm only halfway done cutting apart Group 1, + I'm procrastinating resolving my stack of ironing :xd:

Creative Writing- I really like the flavor of this, so I gave it more points than I normally would have. The flavor text and name are both brilliant, and I like the thought of The Wildewill leveling entire forests, so have some points in this category.
Everything scares me... kitties scare me... squirrels scare me... corpses....corpses bring forth a pletora of confusing feeling which i prefer not to dwell on...:p
Your guys card and dragons were both very flavourful but whereas the dragons was simple yours was clogged down by a horde of costs and abilities. The abilities length + complexity level is already at charm level, tacking on a similarly complex alternate cost, well...

Made me smile. There. Only reason you lost a point was because I couldn't resolve the fact that your avatar's signature spell killed him.

Isn't the text version suppose to be the tell all end all polished version and the render an attempt at an extra point? At least that's how I have been grading them. Planar Chaos lost some key points cause their text was hurting whereas the render was perfect. Family wouldn't have scored near as bad if I only looked at the render.

I thought that was just a funny red quirk. Bounce him back and risk discard, or if he hasn't got the +1/+1 boost die with everything else. Otherwise, Boom. But yeah, I can see how that might be a bit of a hangup....reds chaotic like that.

DIMIR Design (6/10) – I have issue with this card. I don’t like the leaves play ability and the fact that it claims nothing of the counters it should have as a result of paying X. The 2/1 and the deathtouch are fine by me, but they just don’t seem very strong considering the extensive casting cost to accomplish anything. I feel the card should read this: “When ~this~ enters the battlefield put X Mill counters on ~this~, and each opponent puts the top X cards into his or her graveyard for each counter on ~this~. When ~this~ leaves the battlefield, remove all of the Mill counters from ~this~, and each opponent puts the top X cards into his or her graveyard for each counter removed this way. Exile ~this~ instead of putting it in your graveyard.”
The Dimir should’ve know better. Development (6/10) – The score is for the balance of the card. It accomplishes the task it was meant to, but the point losses are for the sloppy wording. The fact that it has so much wording also makes it clunky. It doesn’t break anything and is useless in a dredge deck. Polish (3/5) – The art and the flavor seem to jive….I’ll give them that. I just have issues with the wording again. (15/25)
PLANAR CHAOS Design (9/10) – I can really only take off for the missing words. Without the proper text it gets stuck on Tragedy and that is a sad thing. The ability to flip back and forth would make this card excellent. Development (7/10) – This card would be broken. It could escape death with timing. If you had the extra mana you could easily keep this on the board and destroy everything on the board except itself. Could be a very strong tournament staple because of its ability to be broken. Polish (4/5) – Problems with the p/t box was really the only issue for me. Tough on a flip card though. (20/25)
GREEK ALLIANCE No Submission
THE IZZET Design (7/10) – It gets the point across very well. It is a slight repeat of several cards from the Lorwyn/SDWMR block. It seems limited and can’t really be effective until the late game. I wouldn’t scream out that it’s the best thing around, but I can see it’s uses in some decks. It would be good in a Pyromancer’s Ascension deck. You would have to mill yourself. Development (7/10) – It seems to be a well balanced card. Very playable and properly costed. It fits the color scheme and flavor of the Izzet. Loses points for being a “Weird”. Would be better suited with a subtype before the type “Weird”. Polish (3/5) – I’ll give it the points because it’s a complete design here. I am a little put off by the artwork chosen. I think the wording in the text box could have looked better…seems a little crooked. (17/25)
ARD Design (8/10) – I like the subtleness of this card. It does what it’s supposed in all aspects. I think there is a wording issue…I believe it should read: “Dream Defiler's power and toughness are each equal to the total number of exiled cards.”
This knocks the score down just a notch for me. Everything screams elegance. It loses another point for being 5 cards…..I think 6cc for a 5/5 is a bit steep. Especially if your losing life to play the exiled cards. Maybe if it had: “At the beginning of your end step each opponent loses 1 life and gain 1 life for each life lost this way.”
I think that would make this card great! Development (7/10) – It doesn’t break anything or is format defining, but it is certainly a fun card. Of course I’m thinking about it with my changes. I like this card because of what it does. Polish (0/10) – Nothing to judge here. (15/25)
FAMILY Design (8/10) – Persist is not a black mechanic. The rest of the card is relatively strong. I flows well with card drawing and seems to hurt as much as it helps. Development (7/10) – This card could be broken in the right deck. Persist is an easy mechanic to manipulate and negate. It could result in a card drawing engine that doesn’t really hurt the player in the least. An infinite card draw would look back in any format. Polish (4/5) – I’m not sure about the full frame stuff, but the whole thing looks really nice. (19/25)
CLANMONOBLACK Design (9/10) - Simple and elegant. It doesn't go over the top and seems like it would take out the entire squad once it leave play. It begs the opponent it leave it in play unless he was tapped out. It is a simple, strong alternative to the House Dimir's card. Development (9/10) - This isn't game breaking or format defining, but I feel it would see a good bit of play in all of them. It has the potential to be a board sweeper in the right environment, something that black is desperately needing. Polish (3/5) - I'm not sold on the art work and I don't feel that a lizard is very black. That's my biggest gripe about the creature as a whole. It's more of a zombie/specter effect.

Great Critique JJ. Really gotta say thank you cause I was getting a little frustrated with our clan. I bet Ria felt the same way last round when he was the only one who did a critique.
Three small things about your critique. 1) Planar Chaos's card does flip back. Something about cards not remembering flipped status when they bounce or whatever. Ria explained it to me cause I had the same criticism.
2) You're a tad bit hard on ARD. the polish is for bonus points, and how neat and tidy the text version is. No Render = -1, but any mistakes on the render can run -1 for each error depending on how glaring.
3) did you have an opinion of Mono black?
Just some thoughts...love that you took the time to critique. Hoping the rest of the clan will too.
I've been trying to think of tie breakers for my own critique...since three tied for first is meh. Here's what I've decided.
1) Planar Chaos. Love the flavor
2) Mono-Black Sleek and effective
3) ARD Creative neat, JJ's critique shows me the wording errors I didn't see but he also says it works. So I'd give it 21.
We'll have to rethink our strategy a little. The only thing surprising about people's critique of our card now is how much people are docking it for elegance. I'm seeing anywhere from -2 to -6...far cry for the +1 bonus we tried for. We'll probably get some 3rd place points, but we're going to be playing catchup next round.
Cheers,
Daggertooth

It is, but I didn't think it would hurt us much at the time. But losing us between -2 and -6 is a big surprise to me. People have a hard time with the "doesn't untap until next untap step" which I thought was a fun add. I thought it was green cause of tangle, but at least three clans have insisted that it was either white or blue. My bad there I guess. It's looking like we would have been much better off without the alt cost and maybe the tangle ability. Still, I would have thought we'd score higher than the wall and dragons, but thats not happening.

-I think Clan Mono 's seems the most "pop'ingest" and clean.
-Planar Chaos' is just under it.
-And I like The Family's card except it's a card that says "I don't like violence.." in it's flavor text?
Please don't make me fill out the 2+ hour (x/25) form on each card. I don't type so fast and it took me about 25 min to do half of Izzet's before I said F' this.

Surprising, to be sure. Of course with the name jonny jonski, he might have quite the Johnny streak and figured out ways to break the card that we haven't.
It was my 11th wedding anniversary last night, so I still need to finish my critique. I'll have it here in a bit.
I think we would be doing *much* better this round if we had gone with my original alt cost - sac three Forests. There's your :symg::symg::symg: right there! Also,
Quote from AI »
They get their bonus points but lose points for failing to capitalize "Forest," missing "and each player," putting the apostrophe in the wrong place in "controllers'," and using the singular form instead of "untap steps."
I'm glad AI found this, some pretty obvious glaring errors. These kind of templating errors should *not* happen; if we had more eyes looking in during development, this kind of thing *wouldn't* happen
In other news, Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World looks awesome.

I read it over and didn't see any of that. Figured it looked good, but if its there its there.

I thought it was green cause of tangle, but at least three clans have insisted that it was either white or blue. My bad there I guess. It's looking like we would have been much better off without the alt cost and maybe the tangle ability. Still, I would have thought we'd score higher than the wall and dragons, but thats not happening.
Looking forward to having you.
Cheers,
Daggertooth
Edit: Oh, its clan mono-black. That's the 2/1 creature that -x/-x when it dies.

my top 3 go:
Clan Mono-Black
Planar Chaos
The Family
in that order.
I've been going back and forth but I believe I concur w/ this.
Me bad?
Ah! Tangle my favorite card ever. But yeah, it is currently I believe.

Are you a pilot or a creator??
Doing some drafting tonight.....hope I open up a Lotuc Cobra...only because I really need a 4th. The card sucks in limited.

I like the Way the Pack has been keeping track of this so I'll copy them.
Votes=Daggertooth, JJ, and Dux
[Clan MonoBlack-] - 3 + 2 + 3
[Planar Chaos] - 3 + 2 + 2
[The Family] - 1 + 1
[ARD] - 1
[The Izzet]
[House Dimir]
[The Greek Alliance]I know ria was working on his. Everyone else if you can at least go over the submissions and give a top 3...If you don't have time for a detailed explaination of the breakdown like dux thats fine I guess, but it would be nice to get more votes in.
We have 12 hours left right?

1: Clan Mono-Black
2: The Family
3: Alliance of Rogue Deckers
Didn't really like the others, and I don't think Dimir should get any votes. The card can't remember X (which we've discussed) but I'd like to re-articulate that.
EDS: Yay post 403!
DUBLEDS: Naturalize redeems the new set. Hehe. Also totem armor is nice.
Surprising, to be sure. Of course with the name jonny jonski, he might have quite the Johnny streak and figured out ways to break the card that we haven't.
OMG! I just spent like 15 min laughing at these. Have any of you ever seen this before?

I think we would be doing *much* better this round if we had gone with my original alt cost - sac three Forests. There's your :symg::symg::symg: right there! Also, I'm glad AI found this, some pretty obvious glaring errors. These kind of templating errors should *not* happen; if we had more eyes looking in during development, this kind of thing *wouldn't* happen
In other news, Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World looks awesome.
What are you doing enjoying your 11th wedding anniversary instead of critiquing cards? Bad ria!
I mean....congratulations on 11 years Ria! Hope you guys went out and had a blast.
I read it over and didn't see any of that. Figured it looked good, but if its there its there.
We're just going to have to make sure the next card is great cause its an uphill battle now. The Pack really wowed the crowd this round.
