DEVO is not bad music. It is clearly more inovative than the terrible canned crap being regurgitated through the airwaves to our impressionable youth. The crap being mass produced today sucks so bad. I can't tell the difference between the vocal styles of 8-12 different "popular" bands out there now.

Yo rianalnnzzzz, quick question for ya: what sort of fee did you have to pay to the real-estate agency? I ask because, if all things go well on my end, I will start looking at town houses & condos in a few months, and I am rather unfamiliar with the entire process.
Did you gentlemen, bear, and duck see the new Eldrazi that is going to be given away at the prerelease? I am pretend-drooling so much right now that I'm swimming in it, and the resulting precipitation is forming clouds of drool which are beginning to sprinkle down drool rain back onto the sea of drool I have now created to form an endless cycle of droolitude.
Don't worry, I hate modern popular bands, too. I hate without chrono-discrimination. =D I'll teach you about bad music!
---Magic turned into Yu-Gi-oh again... level up? What cheese is this?
My laptop broke and I'm really pissed... it's not like it got dropped or sprayed or anything, the LCD screen randomly cracks, and now my reserve of money I planned to spend on D&D books/new ipod will now be paid for a repair that'll take over a month.
Agreed that level up looks bad, feels bad. They took the success of that poor kithkin, rolled it + smoked it
Xanth, I don't have the numbers in front of me, but there were a lot of fees. Realtor fees are paid by the seller, but I have to pay tax + conveyance fees. I'm sure it's several thousand dollars.
While we're on the topic of hating music, I recently learned that Mary J Blige is going to cover Led Zeppelin's "Stairway to Heaven."
I died inside when I heard that.
For me, I can't stand pop, rap, or a lot of anything that's on the airways right now.
Metal is about all that's doing it for me. Country used to have some soul to it, but now it's being overran by reject pop stars that say "cowboy" once in a pop song and call it country.
They have even taken Metal Yuks! I look around at the metal being goo'd out to the kids these days and they're masking religious overtones in Csharp tuned guitars and over-thunderous bass chords. Mix in some over-the-top double-bass and cymbol fills and you can scream about Jesus resurrected and the satan-loving Slayer junkies like me die inside. As for MJB covering Stairway to Heaven....meh...I guess that's bad since no one can make an original song anymore. Might as well go with a great composition if you're going to ruin music.
I'm mostly talking about these "rock" bands that have high squealy voices that are slightly sharp or flat and have stupid-assed names like Bullet for my Valentine and Killers and ***** Flippers.
I don't know man...I think I'm going to be stuck on tool forever. I still find beauty in Rage Against the Machine, Danzig, Minor Threat, Sepultura and yes...Metallica. I was thinking aboot Metallica on the way into work today and I realized that I first heard "Whiplash" when I was 12. You do know that was 1983...right? I still have Ride the Lightning, Master of Puppets, Kill 'em All and ...and Justice for All on vinyl. I even have the "Creeping Death" 12" EP. THose were the days when I would come home, put on side one of Slayer's Hell Awaits and lay back on my bed and fall asleep to the complex guitars of those metal masters. I would wake in time to flip the record and doze back off to the wonderful sounds.
Those were the days of music! The 80's put out some real crap...but that was the definitive boom in real Heavy Metal.

I don't listen to anything new these days. It's all gone sissy. I couldn't even name a decent local radio station it's been so long. I stick with the same stuff I've been listening to for well over a decade. Rage, Sepultura/Soulfly, Pantera, STP, Cannibal Corpse, my favorite bad of all White Zombie and all the other good stuff.
What is this level up crap? Why so many new gimicks and mechanics debuting in the last set of a block? This crap better not be in Scars of Mirrodin.

Apparently Metallica are coming to Australia, I am so ☺☺☺☺ing excited! I would punch a little kid in the face to get a ticket.
I basically have the same taste in music as JJ Rage, Slayer and Danzig are all good, I also like Pantera, Children of Bodom + about 10 European power metal bands ie Sonata Arctica and Nightwish. I also like old style rock bands like Queen, queen are amazing.
And I agree about music these days, half the bands are just screaming backed with ☺☺☺☺ty guitar and over heavy drums, my personal preference is if you are gonna scream you better to it tastefully or at least be able to play your damn instruments, what happened to the days of minute long guitar solos? now a days you would be lucky to here a decent solo, it's sad that "Orianthi" (a pop singer) has a better guitar solo in one of her songs than most modern metal bands.
Level up? the hell is that? I'll go check it out, seems like a bad idea just hearing about it though.
I find it funny that all three of you guys complain about "music these days", and then go on to rant about how music that mostly all fits in the same genre is bad. Music these days isn't bad, the music in the genres you guys usually listen to is bad.

Btw the code for that smiley should totally be :kpaca: or :kp:. Just saying.
Eds: Actually JJ specified that he was talking about Metal. My badz. Did I mention I read threads not from oldest post to newest, but backwards. Yeah.................weird.
Personally when I refer to 'music these days,' I'm generalizing, where I should say 'popular music these days.' Some parts of the metal underground are putting out epic, skillful music; while others are some numetal washouts or that scene crap. =P
Definately open to music though. (I listened to Bach this morning...)
I actually like Soft-Rock. Hello, first post in this thread. Just want to participate in your community, and possibly be a member if you like me enough.
It kind of soothes the soul while still giving an upbeat feeling to it. R&B isn't bad either.
Hello, The Fallen. I hope you don't mind if I refer to you as The Fallen Two, since we already have a Thing One. Feel free to tell us a little about yourself, + we'll see how we get along
I listen to all kinds of stuff, a fair bit of it new. Not a whole lot going on in rock these days that I pay attention to, most of the contemporary music I listen to is dance or electronica.
I'm going to re-render our contest entry + then it should be clear to post, SP.
You like Techno? I don't exactly know what electronica is.
My favorite color is......well I don't really have one. I love the game in it's entirety, although WOTC does let me down sometimes.
I live in the US, although my job requires me to travel a lot domestically.
I was a long time viewer of the forum, and upon joining I discovered this one. Your thread seemed to appeal to me the most, and I figured I'd love to participate in discussions with you guys.
So do you actually live by the beach...down under? Haven't been to Australia yet, but it seems like it would be intriguing to visit the Outback.

Techno is electronica that isn't trying, although electronica itself is pretty broad.

I can't decide which is worse. That you would punch a baby for any reason, or that the best reason you could come up with for doing so is to get Metallica tickets. They are so terrible now.

To be fair he did say he'd punch a little kid, not a baby. So maybe he was talking about punching himself? Teens these days.
Teefoo...hope you had a better reason for not liking "the fallen" beyond the name. Sure he turned out to be a banned ripper of a gimmick, so there are plenty of good reasons....your post just read like someone against him just cause of the name.
I'll join the chorus of grumpy crotchety old men complaining about music these days and how old school is the way to go. I wouldn't consider most the stuff being branded as country as actual country. Sure some of it ain't bad, but its bout as far as country as you can get. Changing times I suppose.
Kpaca...with your mind...:symg:expanded:symg:...doesn't any music sound decent enough to listen to? I know the worst bands in the world sound like high class rockstars the more shots I take. Seems to be an exponential curve there.

Edit: So I just changed my time zone from London, Brisban, Cassablanca, whatever to Pacific time. So now I'll be able to see accurate time stamps and better gage the end of these contest and stuff. You know, after five years you'd think I would have bothered messing with that sooner than now...
Also...just washed my laundry and found that my best carhartts, that are covered in bird poo, Didn't stain! That's awesome cause now I can still wear them to school before I destroy them by wearing them every day non-stop this summer.
...Why yes...I did have bird poo covered pants sitting in my room on my laundry pile for the past five days. Gotta take advantage of having no sense of smell sometimes don't I?

TJS are the primary player psychographic divisions for those who like magical cards.
Timmy is the happy casual player who loves smashing his fatties into things; see Timmy, Power Gamer.
Johnny like the tricky player who doesn't care so much about winning as getting off that obscure card combination, or making his playgroup go "huh ". See Johnny, Combo Player.
Spike doesn't particularly care for any of the flavour or mechanics of the game, he just wants to win. See Spike, Tournament Miser (this link won't work until the next Un-set comes out).
There are other psychographics; Vorthos, who cares not for the game so much as the flavour, + Melvin, who is a design/ rules freak + just enjoys seeing behind the veil/lawyerballing more than anything, but these guys don't get a lot of coverage because they aren't profiles of motivations to play the game as much as they are profiles of appreciating the game, or something like that.
I'd say I am a Vorthos/Timmy with Johnny/Melvin tendencies UGR
eds - man, the last Awakenings comic has wicked artwork; why can magical cards have that kind of emotional impressionist bad-assery going on? Why it got to be mainstream line art all the time? /longs for days of RKF / Drew Tucker / Harold McNeil :sadartist: <--=[somebody remind me to 'chop this when I have two minutes to sit still]
I have no idea how to classify my play style. I enjoy the competition, the complex gaming styles and outcomes and winning. But I also like playing the game because it's a game. It relaxes me. I don't really get down when I lose because I was able to have a duel with another person. I enjoy the collectibility of the game...though not as much as I used to, but the art is certainly a factor in my collection of the game.
I'm happy for you Ria. You will find great joy in owning a home of your own. There are things that are necessary for you to do though....you must break in every room in the house. That is mandatory. You must paint the kitchen green. Any shade will do, but green is certainly a lovely color. Don't paint the bathrooms too dark...they tend to feel smaller and suffocating.

Thanks, jj. Ever since I was a little kid I used to draw house plans for My House. Sometimes it was in a tree, sometimes it was a sprawling multi-room mansion. . . never really thought I'd be anything but a minimum wage kid, so this is kind of a dream come true.
I painted Nanna's kitchen at the old beachouse green. My kitchen is subtly red.
Bathroom will likely be white with some form of sea'propriate trimming, but I'm leaving that to the kids. Orlando in particular had to know what colour the tub was in every house we looked at. First thing he'd do once we'd got in the door was run off to find it
Putting together my critique for this round, everybody pick at least one card to do + get crackin'!
Design (/10):
Elegance -
Does it say a lot in a few words? Does the design just 'click' with the flavor?
Creativity -
Does it present an old mechanic with a wonderful new twist? Does it make you slam the table and shout "Damn! Why didn't I think of that?" Does it conform with the current color pie (not necessarily an uncreative thing)?
Potential -
Would this card be well-received by its target demographic (Timmy, Johnny, Spike?) Would you want to see this card in the [insert rarity] slot of a booster pack? Would this be a memorable card?
Development (/10):
Viability -
Does it work at all? Would it bend any current rules? Would it make baby Gottlieb cry?
Balance -
Would it break any format? Or a limited format of an imaginary block with that theme? Higher rarities would obviously impact constructed more so than limited, but if a card blatantly breaks a limited format, point it out. Usually Standard is the constructed format to be most considered, but again, if a card obviously breaks Extended/Legacy/Vintage, point it out.
Creative Writing -
I'm lumping Creative development here as well. Flavor text and name go under here.
Polish (/5):
Deductions for spelling/grammar mistakes/incorrect wording, anything that doesn't fit into Design or Development. Also, there will be two bonus criteria per challenge. If they meet the bonus requirement(s), they get the point(s). If they don't, they don't.
Putting together my critique for this round, everybody pick at least one card to do + get crackin'!
Naw, Critique them all so theres some semblance of consistency. Otherwise whoever Ria grades will be at a dissadvantage for having their render nitpicked to death.
Dream Defiler
Creature - Horror {R}
When Dream Defiler enters the battlefield, exile the top five cards of your library face down. You may look at face down cards in your exile zone.
Dream Defiler's power and toughness are equal to the number of exiled cards.
, Pay X life: You may cast one card from your exile zone without paying its cost, where X is that card's converted mana cost.
*/*
Design (8/10): I need second opinions here cause I’m not 100% sure I understand this card. Not the card’s fault, just mine with the rulings.
Elegance – Works well with their champion.
Creativity – Its interesting, I’ll give it that. 6CC for a 5/5 beast that casts spells for life isn’t something I’d think of. Looks good.
Potential – At 6CC it may not see as much use. Jimmy might like it since it has the potential to be huge. Timmy might like it depending on the cards exiled and various tricks with bounce and whatever. Spike might break it…not sure what’s exactly out there, but the idea of a free card in today’s drain life rich neighborhood has me hesitant (-1). Might be a touch strong in a control deck (-1). Maybe I’m just thinking too much of a free Eldrazi or Ultimatum.
Development (10/10): At 6CC a 5/5 is fair. Paying life for spells can be abused, but the randomness of it probably makes that slightly less abusive. Power and toughness = to all exiled cards could be problematic, but you’d have to build around it to abuse it. Overall I think it’s a fairly decent card that seems to work fine, is playable all around, and is hard to abuse.
Viability – I think it works. Can’t think why it wouldn’t.
Balance – I don’t think it would break any formats. Could get a touch too strong with spike, but I don’t know if it is overly so.
Creative Writing – No flavor text, but it is probably too wordy for it anyway.
Polish (4/5): Gets the bonus points. No render (-1)…maybe that’s the way it aughta be, cause most the folks with renders have been losing more than just 1 point for silly mistakes like rarity and spacing and junk. Text looks fine, but then I really don’t know the proper wording for a card like this.
Total 22/25
Parahydrox
Creature - Weird [R]
When Parahydrox enters the battlefield, exile any number of target instant or sorcery cards from a single graveyard.
Whenever you cast an instant or sorcery spell that shares a converted mana cost with a card exiled by Parahydrox, you may cast the exiled card without paying its mana cost.
3/3
Design (7/10): Fun name, fits in both colors. The biggest problem here is that in the vast majority of cases it is worthless, but in decks specifically build around it it is broken. With no middle ground I think that hurts it a lot.
Elegance – Love the name.
Creativity – Seems to be an Isochron Sceptor on Steroids with potential to be abused (-1).
Potential – Jimmy wouldn’t care. Timmy and Spike would break it (-1). Weak in limited, but it breaks constructed. Since it triggers every exiled card with equivalent CC it can be abused severely…I’d love it in my burn deck though. Most people wouldn’t give it a second look unless specifically making a deck around it (-1).
Development (9/10): Seems way too narrow. Would be better if the free card was then tossed into the graveyard or the wording made it so only one card with equivalent CC would be triggered.
Viability - well if the intent was an Isochron Sceptor on steroids then it works.
Balance – Broken in Constructed, but you would have to design a deck around it to make it so (-1). Weak in Limited, but I’d still play it if I was strapped for creatures even without the off chance of its ability being utilized.
Polish (4/5): Gets the bonus points. Boring default rare symbol (-1). Everything else seems fine.
Total 20/25
Consigliere
Creature — Human Advisor
When Consigliere enters the battlefield, you may sacrifice any number of noncreature permanents you control. Draw a card and lose 1 life for each permanent sacrificed this way.
Persist.
"I don't like violence; I'm a businessman. Everything a man wants has a cost."
Design (8/10): Not a bad strait forward card. Card advantage is nice and the non-permanent thing means it’s not too abusive. Might be a little underwhelming.
Elegance – Its simple, and easy to figure out. Persist seems like it was tacked on though, and with the potential of using this twice just doesn’t seem correct flavorwise…I mean a human advisor bouncing back as a 1/1, not to mention you probably sacked what you wanted when you cast him first (-1).
Creativity – Mechanic seems very familiar, maybe it’s not fair to deduct points for that, but I swear its been done before (-1).
Potential – Jimmy wouldn’t care. timmy might, but only to draw into the cool stuff. Spike might, just cause card advantage can work. I wouldn’t be overwhelmed if I got this card in a pack…I would get some use out of it in limited, but probably not much else (-1).
Development (6/10): There’s a lot of big problems with the text version.
Viability – No Rarity means I have no idea if this is over powered (-2). No power or toughness means it’s not even a legit creature (-2).
Balance – Don’t know since there’s no rarity…but even as a common I can’t see this breaking any format.
Creative Writing – I like the flavor text.
Polish (4/5): Gets the bonus points. Render has no Rarity (-1).
Total 18/25
Dimir Assassin XUB
Creature - Human Assassin (R)
Deathtouch
When Dimir Assassin enters the battlefield, target player exiles the top X cards of his or her library.
When Dimir Assassin leaves the battlefield, target player exiles the top X cards of his or her library.
2/1
The more you give, the more you take
Design (8/10): I like the 2/1 deathtouch, Playable and very effective. X to exile two cards is just too much. If it were one card it might fit better, but even then exile over graveyard is a big deal. I really think this was a good concept but they got greedy.
Elegance – The redundancy of both the leaves play and comes into play gives me a bit of a bad taste in my mouth. I suppose it is needed, but it is not elegant (-1).
Creativity – It is creative. At least I don’t know of a creature that does something similar.
Potential – Jimmy wouldn’t bother, Timmy wouldn’t either, spike would love it. It would see play, but only because it is so abusive (-1).
Development (7/10):
Viability – It has memory issues with the leaves play ability (-1). Other than that it looks like it should work as written.
Balance – Breaks limited and does wonders on Constructed (-1). The ability to exile 2 cards for 1 mana is extreme.
Creative Writing – The flavor text doesn’t work for me. Your taking and taking, there’s no giving involved (-1)
Polish (2/5): They get the +2 for the bonus. Unfortunately, the render fails on multiple levels. The rare symbol is just the default square which is just pure laziness (-1). The text boxes are not evenly spaced (-1). And the worst part of this is that the render itself is the exact same that Mono Black used for their “Kuria, Scythe of Malice” Legend Champion (-1). I almost want to deduct another point for the credit, sure artbycarlos is the correct deviant art name, but his real name is on that front page, mono black got it right with their render.

Tragedy
Creature- Shapeshifter Incarnation (Rare)
As Tragedy enters the battlefield, choose a creature type. When Tragedy leaves the battlefield, creatures of the chosen type get -2/-2 until end of turn.
: Exile Tragedy, then return it to the battlefield under it's owner's control.
3/2
Design (10/10): I really like this card concept. It is a might bit powerful what with its ability to blink out of danger, but not overly so. It’s sleek and hip and has that new car smell…I like this design.
Elegance – Flip cards are an interesting concept and this one pulls it off nicely.
Creativity – It takes an old concept and puts a nice twist to it.
Potential – Jimmy wouldn’t care much about this, Timmy would love it, and spike might if he could figure a way to abuse it. Over all it wouldn’t be a bad pull.
Development (7/10):
Viability – The +1/+1 ability is poorly worded, redundancy and stuff (-1).
Balance – There’s a color issue here in that +1/+1 to all is WW and -2/-2 to all is BB. The abilities would be better to reflect that (-1).
Creative Writing – No flavor text, but a smart choice with how wordy this card is. It’s should be Its (-1).
Polish (5/5): Gets +2 for the bonus. Render looks decent enough to me. Sure there’s that glitch, but it seems more of a technical error with the program than an oversight on their part.
Total 22/25
Ashen Shrieker
Creature - Lizard [Uncommon]
When Ashen Shrieker is put into a graveyard from the battlefield, you may pay . If you do, target creature gets -X/-X until end of turn.
They say shrieker hides are invulnerable to any acid. Anyone who's seen what shrieker blood does will already confirm that.
2/1
Design (8/10): This card wins in its simplicity. A 2/1 for 2CC in black isn’t bad and with the potential to kill on or even catch a two for one…well I like it. High end uncommon, but still within uncommon bounds.
Elegance – It’s sleek and strait forward.
Creativity – Might be a little too simple. The concept has been done before and -1/-1 isn’t new (-2).
Potential – Wont jump out to any Jimmy, Timmy, or Spike…but they’ll all probably see it as a utility card that should be looked for.
Development (9/10): Not much to say here beyond it’s a strait forward card that’s creative enough.
Viability – It works.
Balance – Its weakness is how splashable it is X for –X/-X which seems out of color for me (-1).
Creative Writing – The flavor text works nicely as well.
Polish (5/5): Gets the bonus points. I don’t see anything wrong with the Render.

The 80's put out some real crap...but that was the definitive boom in real Heavy Metal.
jj
I don't listen to anything new these days. It's all gone sissy. I couldn't even name a decent local radio station it's been so long. I stick with the same stuff I've been listening to for well over a decade. Rage, Sepultura/Soulfly, Pantera, STP, Cannibal Corpse, my favorite bad of all White Zombie and all the other good stuff.
What is this level up crap? Why so many new gimicks and mechanics debuting in the last set of a block? This crap better not be in Scars of Mirrodin.

Homebrew is creating Magic.
Are you a pilot or a creator??
lets make a creature that is so crazy when it's cast...that people will do nearly anything to cast it!!!
Expand your mind gent's :ai:
Btw the code for that smiley should totally be :kpaca: or :kp:. Just saying.
Eds: Actually JJ specified that he was talking about Metal. My badz. Did I mention I read threads not from oldest post to newest, but backwards. Yeah.................weird.
Personally when I refer to 'music these days,' I'm generalizing, where I should say 'popular music these days.' Some parts of the metal underground are putting out epic, skillful music; while others are some numetal washouts or that scene crap. =P
Definately open to music though. (I listened to Bach this morning...)
It kind of soothes the soul while still giving an upbeat feeling to it. R&B isn't bad either.
Banned (Ripping)
Thank god for that, I knew this wasn't going to work out, at least this made it easy for me.
You might as well call him starlit_halo, that's who's gimmick he was.
Mise well answer the questions.
Techno is electronica that isn't trying, although electronica itself is pretty broad.
I really do live by the beach in Oz. I went swimming nearly every day this summer, + frequently sighted the lollipop guild wandering in off the yellow brick road
Some freaky cards in this new set. Think I might have to take my Dragon deck (with the Quicksilver Amulets and more angels than dragons) and put some of these crazy monstrosities in there. O_o
About contest....
Who's Timmy, Johnny, and Spike?
Daggertooth
For my heart had not denied me and I have somewhere to go.
I shall never be a prisoner of steel and glass and stone.
If I leave, I will return again to my Rocky Mountain home.

/longs for days of RKF / Drew Tucker / Harold McNeil :sadartist: <--=[somebody remind me to 'chop this when I have two minutes to sit still]
I'm happy for you Ria. You will find great joy in owning a home of your own. There are things that are necessary for you to do though....you must break in every room in the house. That is mandatory. You must paint the kitchen green. Any shade will do, but green is certainly a lovely color. Don't paint the bathrooms too dark...they tend to feel smaller and suffocating.
jj
I painted Nanna's kitchen at the old beachouse green. My kitchen is subtly red.
Bathroom will likely be white with some form of sea'propriate trimming, but I'm leaving that to the kids. Orlando in particular had to know what colour the tub was in every house we looked at. First thing he'd do once we'd got in the door was run off to find it
Putting together my critique for this round, everybody pick at least one card to do + get crackin'!
[The Greek Alliance][The Izzet]
[Clan Mono-:symb:]
[Planar Chaos]
[House Dimir]
[ARD]
[The Family]

Naw, Critique them all so theres some semblance of consistency. Otherwise whoever Ria grades will be at a dissadvantage for having their render nitpicked to death.
Dream Defiler
Creature - Horror {R}
*/*

Creativity –
Mechanic seems very familiar, maybe it’s not fair to deduct points for that, but I swear its been done before (-1).Potential – Jimmy wouldn’t care. timmy might, but only to draw into the cool stuff.

Comedy
Creature- Shapeshifter Incarnation (Rare)
