Hey guys... any one of you wanna buy.. practically my entire collection? Over 5000 cards, 2 playmats, boxes, deck boxes, hundreds of sleeves, non-Magic cards, and more? Tons of foily rares and sexy cards...for a flat $500? (tons of rares, playsets of a lot of commons and uncommons from T2, Extended, Legacy)
I'm trying to get out of magic.. and I need money for rent for June (secured, anyway.. job status is uncertain at this point and I need monies.)
Not the best place to ask I'm sure (a lot of you aren't even into Magic anymore) but I thought I'd ask here before putting it up on the Auction forum. I can go through and list some choice rares if you want to know more.
@Omna:
Baltimore is very patchwork. You can't tell what a neighborhood is like until you've had a chance to see it both by day and by night. Some areas seem very safe by day, but at night turn into a thoroughfare for all sorts of nonsense. Because safety is an issue for a single woman living in Baltimore, you MUST have a car if you live in Baltimore or you will find yourself cut off from many necessary things.
Try looking for something closer to Fort Meade. It may be more expensive, but worth it, especially if you must use the MTA public transit or the Metro. It will provide more opportunities for Brad if he is also moving with you, because it will be close to DC, Bethesda (NIH) and to the military bases and the state government. University of Maryland has a campus housing finder that a lot of contractors find helpful. Columbia, Severn, and Glen Burnie are all a few miles away from Meade and the airport.
PS If you must live in Bmore, the neighborhoods are not all like on The Wire. The ones that are will be somewhat obvious - boarded up windows, few shops, etc. Places where you will find modest rents for places with less trouble: Bayview (moderate crime but a lot of people from the nearby Hopkins Bayview hospital and associated research facility), Canton, Greektown, Butchers Hill, Brewers Hill, Essex, White Marsh, in and around Towson, Rosedale, Parkville, Lutherville, Glen Burnie in the south. Along 695 and convenient to 95. Dundalk is OK if you have a car and are interested in buying a house. It is pretty far from downtown and that can be either a curse or a blessing, depending on how vibrant you like things close to home.
I got some goodish news myself, I forgot to mention. My application for a work permit was approved and now I can legally work in Canuckistan.
Finding a job isn't so easy though. I have some skills, but they are tied in with a particular doctoral program and not very useful outside of it. Sad part is, I couldn't finish the program because of illness. Now many of my courses are considered obsolete and I would have to re-apply to get the rest of my credits. So what can you do ?
Just hoping for another one of those research jobs where some people can spend 8 years trapped in the system without promotion. :/ IT'S A PAYCHECK BABY
Holy crapola is right, Seph! Everyone IS growing up... It's funny how we've all kind of gone through a lot of changes in our lives through the time we've run this place... WAIT!!!!!!!!
APRIL 19!!! FOUR years the CoffeeHouse has been in existence! This Monday!! Holy crap people! And today is four years I've been on Salvation - means I've known some of you for FOUR YEARS!! Wowzers...
Seph, you're buying a house... Alacar, selling your cards to pay rent, Starr, you're living and (hopefully soon) working in Canada! And I'm interviewing with the U.S. Gov't next week! Holy moly.
Brad and i will have been tog a year and 7 months this Monday as well Tuesday early am I fly out to Baltimore, hang around the hotel until my friend gets off work and shows me around the harbor, taking me out to dinner, then early Wed. morning my interview, then hanging round the hotel until Wed. night I fly out around 9:30pm, back here by 10:30.
Thank you Starr, for the advice... I KNEW you'd be a great resource, since I knew you used to live in Baltimore and whatnot. The names of those areas is really going to help once I get the job (**thinking positively**)
Who's up for a chat session next Monday? I'll be packing but I can def poke my head in here and wish the CoffeeHouse a Happy Four Year Anniversary Maybe it'd be a good due time for a new thread?
Wow! Has it really been that long? SO hmm two years for me more or less, jeez....
Oh yeah I am still around, haven't contributed much because.... honestly i can't really think of any reason why im not talking more here!
Anyways life hasn't been great, but at least it hasn't been bad, there's so much i would like better but at least im getting by.
Wish i had more to report.... but other than me developing an unhealthy obsession with Cheesecake there's really nothing exciting going on in my life other than parenting.

Lately I have been eating Blueberry topped Cheese cake although i would kill for some Cheesecake with Toffee topping, it would be almost illegal in its deliciousness
As for my kids, my oldes will be 7 this October (about two weeks after i enter the second half of my 20's right now im in the deliciously exact mid point :p), gods that kid likes to talk, he is so darn youtube savvy he knows pretty much 2% about EVERYTHING and just makes up fantastic explanations for the other 98%.
My youngest will be 3 in December, that one is so darn adorable, although he is having trouble talking, he isn't behind per say because he understands and everything but his vocabulary isn't as advanced as i would like, hopefully he will catch up on that within the next couple of months, but still not all kids talk perfectly by 2 its a guideline not a law

Hahahhaha really, Sephy?? You didn't know about me and Brad? We've been together since September of '08, and if you're behind further than that, Ryan and I broke up in November of '07 Oh and Ryan's got a new girlfriend (well, since Jan. of '08 :p)
Good to see you here Hunter Hope you're doing well
Couple days ago I went and bought a new black blazer and red blouse for my interview, and got my hair trimmed and highlighted I had been growing my hair out, but it was in that really shaggy looking phase that I really didn't want to go say hi to the government with... lol.. So maybe I'll post a picture if I remember to take a camera, of me all spiffied up plus of the hotel and surrounding areas (no, the complex I'm interviewing doesn't allow cameras.. so I'll have to leave it in the hotel room.. no problem there lol... will be too busy for camerawork
Anyway, yeah, I fly out Tuesday morning.. I might have internet access but I'm going to try to actually avoid the internet, and relax in the hotel, plus hopefully work on my book... I've sadly let it slide lately.... I haven't really actively been working on it daily, since maybe the middle of March.. There were a few days where I was too swamped with things going on, around St. Patrick's Day, to do that.. and since I haven't really gotten back into the habit... Kind of guilty of that.. I figure this will be as good an excuse as any to do a writing "retreat" Plus swim and read I deserve a couple days free vacation
Anyway, I'm getting a bit tired.. so I'm going ot head to bed soon I think. Take care, and have a good night folks
I suddenly feel like the young kid, being 19, and having no kids. *shrug
I haven't been doing much besides classes, and the boring time consuming homework that accompanies it.
I've actually got around to installing MWS and having been frantically making .dec(s) from the ideas i've had for years, yet never had the time or money to make.
I'd better get back to a paper that's due at noon

I got a haircut too, getting ready for interviews...but the haircut looks really bad now and I've tried to comb it like the hairdresser showed me but it's still looking crappy. So I think I'll put on a barrette or something with a big clasp to hide the shaggies.
No magic lately, although we did go down to the prerelease to trade. Not many people have new stuff that they want to trade for old stuff. I found some basic land and some tokens. Wooo.
Getting my art and illustration website in shape for trying to make a few bucks on my own while I'm waiting for responses to applications. It's nice to see how much stuff I have available to upload and show off. Now I just need to write a blurb about each work that sounds brief, professional, and explains the context of the work. I've written several companies for copyright permissions so I can use some of my own stuff. Most say yes, although one publisher made me go through a lot of paper hoops before I could pick the ones I wanted. That's the breaks :/ It's much nicer though, because you can give your citation directly and people will know you make publication-quality work.
There's unfortunately a number of my pages where I got lazy and just typed in a placeholder and then uploaded the page. that looks really bad. Or images that aren't my best work, and should probably be replaced at some point.
I'm trying to get out of magic.. and I need money for rent for June (secured, anyway.. job status is uncertain at this point and I need monies.)
