Mine went about as well this year as last, except I got impatient with erasing a part of one of them so it doesn't quite look like it should. But it shouldn't be noticeable at a distance, so I'm okay with it.
And I thought I made a post about this, but I guess not. I had an interesting Wednesday. My shop's Christmas party was to go see Wicked in the city, but we went via a chartered bus. I'm not sure what you call them... inward facing seats, lighting/sound system, drinks available at multiple locations, even a pole for dancing on (probably not its intent, but the driver recommended it - except for us two guys, we were forbidden). I'd never done anything of the sort before, being a nerd who went to a high school targeting nerds. And I have to say, the point of spirits eludes me - unless it's simply to get drunk, which is something else I don't really understand.
Definitely an interesting time, though. Wicked was fun, even next to a boisterous drunk.

I'm glad you were able to enjoy yourself in the midst of drunk pole dancers! I bet you were just hating life, eh?
We saw Wicked a few months ago, and even though I typically eschew musicals, I was able to enjoy it as well.
Tis the season to gain a few pounds eating lots of sugary treats! Nom Nom...

Honestly, it was largely boring. I don't really know the others, and I was the only one not tired towards the end of the night. There was a fun bit of shop talk and handing out "awards" (mine was for eloquence in note-writing) and the play, but other than that... meh.

A few? Heh. A report said that most Americans gain just over 50% of their annual weight-gain between Thanksgiving and New Year's Day.

Man, I have been oddly stressed out... And for the most unusual reason.
I was trying to pick out my new guitar amp before Christmas. Even though I was going to basically buy it, I was going to get a little help as a gift. But the more I tried, the more uncertain I was about what I wanted. I've been basically cramming amp info and testing for the past week or two, trying to find one that will really make me feel inspired, and provide all that I need. I've found quite a few that I like, but it's been driving me crazy trying to find the perfect one.
So wierd! The pressure of trying to pick it out on a deadline has turned what would normally be a super fun and cool experience into something stressful.
Anyway. I saw that Zith entered the holiday card exchange. Too bad we didn't get paired up! I really hope that the person who gets my card enjoys it. I also have a whole new level of respect for the really great card alterers out there.
Card altering is tiny, grueling work. When you scan it in all blown up, it's so easy to see your imperfections, yet many don't get it out of their head that the actual card is so much smaller than the scanned pic. I haven't done any altering since the beginning of the year. Just no time for it and really, no heart in it either.
I've been using video games as my escape from reality, hence how I was able to put 160 hours into Dragon Age: Origins since 11/3. I've since lent it to a friend so he'll be completely occupied during the Christmas break.
For Christmas dinner, I thought it would be cool to base it on those old, upscale american restraunts.
Thick charcoal grilled NY Strip steaks
Shrimp Cocktail with homemade cocktail sauce
Mashed potatoes with applewood smoked bacon and a nice sharp cheddar cheese
Asparagus - steamed
Classic old school salad with oil and vinegar
Some fresh made chocolate chip cookies and milk for desert.
We have so much leftover food, snacks, chocolates, cookies, cake, fudge et al to feed us for weeks. I just now have to decide how much more weight I plan to gain before kicking off the weight loss season in January.
Sorry about my extended absence. This past week has been havoc on my routine. At first it was just low sleep, then I started sleeping afternoons instead of mornings out of nowhere, and even now the only sleep I've gotten in the past forty hours was a bit of an interrupted three-hour nap. I have to say, I'm looking forward to having a week off after my Monday night shift. It was so bad I didn't get any fooding in for Christmas, and completely missed dinner on both Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. :/
But it was fun overall, and I made up for it with a very over-the-top gingerbread cake to take to my Saturday night gaming yesterday. The cake itself had quite a bit of ground ginger in it, a good strong flavor. Poured onto it the moment it came out of the oven was an intense ginger simple syrup, and then it was frosted with a pleasant ginger buttercream. I didn't have the candied ginger that was supposed to go on top, or the crystallized rose petals, but it was ginger. And for the hell of it, I decided to brush up on my chocolate writing skills, gone unused in the past year and a half. I started writing "Merry" when my friend suggested I make it a Life Day cake. An accidental glob of chocolate on the lower left soon became a surprisingly workable Wookiee. I'm overall pleased with the results, photos courtesy my brand new point-and-shoot:
I've been eating sugar for a week now, and I'm only just now getting tired of my wife's cookies. I also had a great old-fashioned cherry vanilla candy cane which didn't even have a "core" candy, just twisted vanilla and cherry candy pulled into the red and white striped cane shape. It's a rare treat to have true candy anymore.
I also made a grilled pork loin roast stuffed with an apple-mustard relish, had a root vegetable and potato mash, cornbread muffins, and sticky toffee pudding (it was amazing) for the holidays that my wife and I prepared.
I've recently moved to the Houston area, and I'm excited to try the many, many fantastic restaurants simply unavailable in the Detroit area.

Oh wow, those savory dishes sound amazing. The stuffed pork loin is just...
I'd love to try some of that.
Well, I'm back down 4 pounds from 12/26, so me watching more closely what I consume is helping a bit. I still have a LONG way to go to reach my target weight though. It often takes a lot of small steps to go a long distance.
The real trick? A lot of tiny snacks throughout the day.
Remember when your mom said, "Don't eat that! You'll spoil your appetite!"
That's exactly what you want to do! The hungrier you are, the more likely you'll overeat.
Many dieticians recommend 6 tiny meals a day instead of 3 large ones.
I haven't been depriving myself of things I crave either--just the quantity.
If I can keep up the average of a pound a week, that would be fantastic!
i'm surprised i haven't noticed this clan before. For a person who's username reflects an overwieght military sergeant, i can appreciate food :D. (FTR i'm not actually fat :o) anyway, i'd love to be a friend, and does that mean i get free food?

nope, i've found myself lately being 15+ pounds under my normal weight, so what ever i'm doing seems to be ok
Welcome person who eats!
Do you have anything tasty to bring to the potluck?
So Chubbz is an intentional misnomer, a la the huge fat guy being nicknamed "Tiny" et al?
I can bring spaghetti sandwiches. yes i know it sounds somewhat strange, but it's quite good. basically it's just spaghetti noodles and pasta sauce in a sandwich and cooked. mmm

I love the pasta pizzas my old local pizzeria would make. Sauce and noodles and meat in a deep dish pizza with a generous topping of fresh mozzarella. They also shad the second best meatballs I have ever had.
It came in two different kinds: A penne with marinara and meatballs (whole), or a fettuccine with cream sauce with chicken breast pieces.
One of the best things I have ever eaten and one of the worst for me.
Notice of Closure
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
According to your Members list you have only had 5 clan members posting since at least 12-14-09, and only 16 posts in that time. Rule 11 of the clan subforum states that you need at least six active members to remain a clan. Therefore in accordance to that rule and the announcement made this morning (1-19-2010) I hereby put [MTG Salivation] on a Notice of Closure.
In two weeks, (2-3-2010), if you do not have six active members I will have no choice but to close this clan down.
If you have any questions or concerns about this notice feel free to PM me or write on my help desk.
Good luck.

And I guess that I'm a lucky one for the truth of what I know. For my heart had not denied me and I have somewhere to go. I shall never be a prisoner of steel and glass and stone. If I leave, I will return again to my Rocky Mountain home.
Anyone have any ideas to recruit more members?
I think we need to get the point across that we aren't only about food.
Where's Zith?
He hasn't been here since December!

Of course! *URP*
Gotta gain some extra weight so there's more that I can lose come my New Years resolution to eat right and exercise more!

Just wishing everyone a happy new year, from this side of the world.
My Sig's smile is better than yours.
Here is what I decided to get:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C8hZBPIPQXY
Only I got the version where the amp and speaker are seperate.

Yeah, we've all been busy lately. But it's good to see you. Happy new years!
I have a picture of how it turned out... I should try and remember to post it. It was delicious.
@ Shibui: That grilled pork loin sounds great
I got to say, nothing beats champorado during cold times.
champorado is sticky rice that's simmered with some chocolate tablets and served with evaporated milk or skim milk. It's tasty! ^__^
My Sig's smile is better than yours.
Although, i am going to go to Capri some time around spring break so idk how well il be able to adhere to the diet. :3
You can adhere to it by portion control. I am a firm believer that you can indulge in ridiculous foods, but just keep moderation in mind.
