Not only do I take offense to this statement and I resent the condescending attitude you have towards America, but I very much consider myself a typical American. So I'd personally appreciate it if you don't get up on an anti-american soap box anytime soon because you don't see me bashing Canada, Mexico, China, etc; and I'd like the same respect from your end.

Typical americans to me are similar to the woman who sat in front of me on the bus today. She si relatively loud and speaks her opinion without pervocation or inquiry. She talks about the people that sit around her at church and how "this person is this" and "that person did this", and "how does so-and-so put up her child when he acts that that". She sits down and begins to butt into conversations she wasn't originally apart of and goes on a tangent about how it affects her life. She turns on all the lights around her so she read her paper, without worry about other people trying to rest that early in the morning or after a long work day. The other day she got on the bus and asked the woman in front of her if she had any other books with her. The lady said that the book she was currently reading was the only she had with her, but out of kindness, offered to let the lady read it. She took the book and walked back a couple rows and started to read it. Then she just started talking about what ever was concerning her.

First of all I think Avatar sucked mightily. The dialogue was some of the worst I've ever seen, the story was extremely shallow (not to mention it was the third time it's been done, only the other two were better), the themes of the movie are already overdone and the movie took said themes and shoved them in your face as if to say "lol look at the message we want to send, we are so above the way the world is now!!!!!!!".
I'd like to point out that the themes in this movie wern't done just twice before, but dozens of times. They are themes that have been talked about and used often. Dances with wolves, last samurai, Nausicca, dune, day after tomorrow, the core, ferngully, hell even fight club had a hint of man vs corporation. Some worked some didn't but even if I disagreed with the message, and to an extent I do, I don't think I could say the movie was bad. I've seen bad movies, movies that I walked away from after I rented it, this doesn't compare in the least and I would recommend it for the big screen in 3D.
Also, you seem to be getting annoyed and taking offence rather easily lately. Perhaps you should give us a list of topics where we should all tread lightly and hold our tongues to farther avoid aggravating you.

I normally don't care enough to bother pimping my webcomic, beyond the incredibly crappy banner in my signature, but I thought I'd share my latest as it's relevant to the topic at hand. So here it is, three panels on my opinion of Avatar.
And though I didn't like Avatar and abhorred Transformers 2, I thoroughly enjoyed GI Joe, so no claiming I just can't enjoy movies of this genre.
Chris, the themes were used in Day After Tomorrow? I wasn't aware that film even had themes other than "lets see how much we go to annoy any physicists who may be watching."

Huh, I must have missed that part. In my defense, I do recall being distracted by other things going on during the last 20 minutes or so. But the movie had a plot that was at least average, attempted and generally succeeded at characterization, stayed well within the rules it defined at the outset, and the camera work was excellent. I never claimed it was a masterpiece, though I found it thoroughly enjoyable (the ice thing excepted).

I just got an email asking me to come in for an interview. Just two problems. The first is that I have no recollection of applying for this job. I don't doubt that some point I did, but there's still something disconcerting about having sent out so many applications that you can't even recognize a job if an interview is offered to you.
The second (and more difficult) problem is that I might find the work ethically wrong. I'll have to read more about it and do some thinking, but it's not a great position to be in.
EDIT: I'm starting to question if I even applied for this thing. I can't find an email of me sending them my resume, and their website seems wholly unfamiliar to me.
DOUBLE EDIT: More digging shows that I have indeed been to the website before (it has a log in system for job applications, and it seems I did have an account on it). Now I'm worried about why I can't remember any of this.

*Waits for Kpaca to snap at bikemike for not reading other people's posts* Hmmm...nothing?...maybe things were more subtle than I realized? Blod, you never said that you need to be a physicist to criticize things...Kpaca said that "I find it rude to talk down to americans when you yourself are an unamerican", which I expounded upon to mean "I find it rude to talk down to [whomever] when you yourself are an un[whomever]...which is why I said, "and no, I'm no physicist but phooey on the notion that I can't criticize something unless I'm one of them." Thus I was attempting to reject kpaca's sentiment with a playful jab at him. Blame Canada and all that Jazz. Just my attempt to be more aggravating than normal and blaming Kpaca for his reactions.

That's completely normal. I do that all the time actually. I've always debated about whether or not to ask where they are located throughout the interview. Did that once after an interview and it surprised the interviewer. So my current strategy is to accept the job and then look up the place on google. Worked well for North Carolina. But then I did suspect that "Cape lookout national seashore" was on the coast somewhere.

Ethics and morality are overrated. Your livelihood is more important and if that means breaking your strict moral code for a short time then so be it. Doesn't have to last longer than making some money to hold out till a more morally correct job.
Of course that also depends on the degree of moral deviation.

Well, things are starting to look less desperate. Enough so that ethics need not be wantonly sacrificed. I'm on track to make almost $500 from tutoring this month, plus at least $300 for this website once I get it done. That's almost enough for a month's worth of living expenses! Sure a full time job that would earn me 2,400 a month and comes with benefits would be nice, but I'm not in as much risk of living out of my car if I don't get it.
I suppose I misunderstood your comment though. And this is after reading it twice. Either you were being more subtle than you thought, or I'm not just not thinking well today.
Also, you called me by three different names in the last post. Indecisive much?

It's probably a scam trying to get you to respond w/ personal info.
I've honestly gotten these. Mostly they seem to be fishing schemes created by UoP and some other online school. Before you can schedule anything, you have to fill out this 'survey' indicating whether or not you're interested in attending online classes w/ either school. Regardless of what answer you choose, they still call. No exaggeration at all, when I did it, they both called me within 3 minutes to bug me. I was pretty disgusted.
It's probably a scam trying to get you to respond w/ personal info.
That's what I thought at first too, but I'm pretty confident I did apply for it. And being a research position at a university, well, that's generally not the type of thing they'd scam.
I've sent an email asking for a little more information, namely if the research is past the working on animals stage and on to human subjects or not. We'll see what happens shortly I imagine, as the original email wanted an interview on the 11th-13th.
In the meantime, I just in this past hour got another tutoring job. Two hours scheduled for this Tuesday, and probably (not counting unhatched chickens and all) another 1-2 hours every week for the next few months. Let's hear it for slowly working up to financial solvency!
Anyone else find it odd that the clan thread has had more activity today than the last 2 two weeks combined?

Here is some more good storytelling

I piloted that deck I was talking about and got third. So I'm not too happy about it, and I'll probably scrap it. Nice while it lasted.
When the heck did everyone start posting!?! Nothing more relevant to say.
