It's been years since I roleplayed (TSR still owned D&D!), but I always tried to get away with weird stuff - Dwarven Ranger, a Paladin who had a weakness for aesthetics, that kind thing. My DM was harsh (he , but let us try anything we could justify + roleplay play well. There was a fellow, Dbuel, who for a while was posting his campaign weeklies over on mtgRobot, but after the zeta boards server crash, we lost all his posts + he lost heart in keeping it up. I really miss the vicarious rpging ;_;
I play 3.5 edition. It was made by Wizards but it's not too far from 2ed. 4th was when it turned very linear and 'video game-like.' I can't get to my local game shop for their night, and my playgroup disbanded as half of them moved away for university. Right now I'm running a solo campaign for my best friend. I've been playing for about a year now. My Viking campaign is still in the works, but it will be quite epic once I find a suitable group of players. Anyone else play?
Happy new year, clan! We gutsed ourselves on pizza + booze, ogled the boom sparkles, sent O off with Nanna to have a sleep over, + then fought the Mythos Horrors until the clock struck 12. Must have been 42c today, @*$%ing desert wind. . . luckily the cool change came in as soon as the sun set. I'm sure TFO would have fallen over otherwise.
Hope you're all well + good, have a shot of Jager on me
I was falling over, but not cause of the weather, if you know what I mean =p
Happy New Years everybody!!!! Can you believe it? Been five years when we signed in to salvation in our exodous from News. I recall the journey as quite harrowing as I had been slightly less active for the tumultuous political storm that drove us away. How time flies in our virtual lives...
I kind of feel left out of this, I blame my parents =p.
Eh, was busy getting ready for work. Down at Glenelg today, which is the 'popular' beach. I almost got tanked by a group of skinny bikinis coming out of a fashion thing shop . . . Pretty random
What was I talking about? Oh yes, jdski - he made a post here, if you wanna check it out. Seems like it's all good, just for the best.
Sorry I’ve been gone so long, I’ve been moving. Everything seems to be in order here; drunken-posting and ill communications. Glad everyone had a good new year!
Kp – Where tha’ bud at fool? Also, I’ll take an order of your spicy sliced fried mushrooms please …and make it snappy.
JJ – You only come around here when you are liquored up. I feel used and dirty.
SP – Why are you threatening to leave this time? Yes, Dragon Age is sweet (If you like RPG’s). I’ve got about 80 hours in it.
Daggs – Yeah, it has been 5 years. Wow. I agree w/ BD, it seems longer. I didn’t want to leave ‘News, but I did want to go where all the people were, so I migrated. Feel sorry for people who refused to go like Dragon of the Pants.
I got moved into my new place!! I am loving it!! I have had a few incidents, but nothing catastrophic. The first night I spilled paint everywhere. The second night I tried washing some clothes and half way through realized the drain hose wasn’t hooked up = water everywhere. Third night I put too much soap in the dishwasher and suds went all over the kitchen. But all in all, nothing serious. They place is really looking pimp!
Honestly, Kingdom Hearts is a much better game than DAO anyway. In my opinion, anyway. In KH, the storyline and the characters are incredibly engaging.
DAO reminds me alot of the movie Avatar. On the surface, it's amazing. But it absolutely lacks any depth.
the movie Avatar. On the surface, it's amazing. But it absolutely lacks any depth.
I keep seeing this, but there's plenty of hippytrip in the movie if you want to go there. How can a movie be compared to Dances With Wolves on one hand, + have people saying it has no depth on the other? It's first + foremost a popcorn movie, sure, but setting next to *hm. . . something with no depth* Aliens VS Predator 2, c'mon.
The film has depth. In the same way an inflatable kiddy pool does. Sure, that makes it better than the result of someone hosing down the sidewalk, but some of us wanted an Olympic diving pool.
Ok, that metaphor done, I found it to be pretty, but that's about it. Beyond that, I found it infuriating. It could have been good, but then it wasn't. As I watched it, I kept seeing opportunities for it to have done something good, and then I saw it not do that thing. This lasted all the way through the film to the final, predictable an hour earlier, and too rushed to have any meaning, scene.
Needless to say, I wasn't impressed. Thankfully both Moon and (500) Days of Summer came out on Blu-ray recently. Not that I can afford them, but it means that I've been able to "acquire" some good versions to rewatch while Hollywood leaves me without anything else.

Haven't seen Avatar yet. Will probably go this weekend because my son is killing to go see it.
I posted on the clan council....I know right?!? Gasps....jon did his job in the council. I've been busy...OK!?!?
I'm preping for Extended and I think I'm either going to run Scapeshift combo or mono blue permission. I have a stack of good counterspells that I'm dying to piss someone off with, and everyone tries so hard to sneak another color into blue. I think heavy counters and disruption with Venser, Vendilion Clique and Sphinx of Jwar Isle should get through.
I love the Scapeshift single card combo though....it'll be the deck to run early in the season and then people will really start hating out against it. Seems I'm the only one still playing competitively. Won the last FNM draft I went to. Mono Black Zendikar in draft is sick. I didn't lose a game.
I've been told to visit more....it isn't like I'm avoiding though....just been out of it.
Almost time to poop!!

What the F...!! Did i kill the thread or something with my horrid talk of Magic on a Magic Community board? Eeegaddss! What a fool I must be.
penisnachorelish!
Damn it Jonny, would you please stop double-posting? Delete your old post if you want to bump a thread.

Don't worry Jonny, it's been lagging for a while. It'll be inactive for two days, then an explosion of posts within a couple hours. More chaos! RG
If anyone plays standard, I'm piloting a new deck for a local tournament this friday. It's a sort of Bant deck, that plays Lotus Cobra early for mana advantage, piggybacking creatures off of the cobra, while leaving lands open for counterspells, leading into a T4+ Sphinx of Jwar Isle to finish. It seems to work fine, we'll see her play in a couple days, and I'll let everone know how I do. (Cause I'm an egotistical ass) =)
Renting Avatar when it's the sort of movie that begs to be seen big is Epic Fail. You going to get a home 3D setup together? Probably not. Go see it - in 3D.
Also meant to sass you about your domestic bliss/death wish. Just got busy + forgot. Consider yo'self sassed, boy!
*Dux points at JJ for getting yelled at* :simpsonlaugh:
Ria - Keep talking sass and you'll be telling it to the backside of my hand ...as well as the buckle end of my belt.
I just don't see the huge appeal of Avatar. I might go see it if I find the time. But I doubt I will. I'll go see something real in 3D, like Nightmare of Elm St. 2010.
Thanx for the heartfelt congratulations on my death wish.

I would think that something "real" in 3D would involve something like a hike down the grand canyon. I wouldn't consider anything TV as "real".
Avatar's appeal probably has something to do with the rich detailed graphics, motion capture technology, and epic scale. Maybe I don't know what depth is when watching a movie. There were various themes that have got a lot of people talking. There's the race relations from a white man's perspective, nature vs human, and even man vs corrupt big business perspective. Sure these themes have been done before, but Avatar touched on these themes in a very detailed and colorful way to give us a new avenue to explore these topics.
I really liked the movie, but I don't care for the hippie theme as much (despite dux calling me a hippie ;)). I'm not for exploitation of the landscape, but I am for sustainable use. Which I suppose can mean different things to different people. And to be honest, our species as a whole hasn't quite gotten past the exploitation phase of our habits. Still, shifting completely to the "don't log, graze, mine, or use the land in any way" mode simply puts people who try to be sustainable out of business. Not to mention all those hippie groups have really succeeded in is halting american business. The demand is still there and it is simply outsourced to countries and people who are suffering in the extreme from exploitation.
Course maybe I'm a sucker for the hippie theme. I still consider Nausicaa as my favorite movie. I should go out and buy it one of these days.
Cheers,

I loved Avatar for many reasons. First, the visuals were just stunning in 3D. The plot may have been simplistic but I didnt think it detracted from the experience, the best things are sometimes simple. What I loved is the alien race seemed almost exactly what I think elves (should) represent in fantasy literature.
Of course, if I was any religion I'd be pagan, so the nature themes are very core to me. (Plus I don't like the archtypical US citizen, which I'm sure none of you are)
First of all I think Avatar sucked mightily. The dialogue was some of the worst I've ever seen, the story was extremely shallow (not to mention it was the third time it's been done, only the other two were better), the themes of the movie are already overdone and the movie took said themes and shoved them in your face as if to say "lol look at the message we want to send, we are so above the way the world is now!!!!!!!".
Plus it is just another movie that is rated as awesome because these days people look past things like story and dialogue and assume millions of dollars worth of effects make a movie good. There is probably a reason that the only recognizable actor in this film is no longer a big budget star and is in the twilight of her career.
Plus I don't like the archtypical US citizen, which I'm sure none of you are
Not only do I take offense to this statement and I resent the condescending attitude you have towards America, but I very much consider myself a typical American. So I'd personally appreciate it if you don't get up on an anti-american soap box anytime soon because you don't see me bashing Canada, Mexico, China, etc; and I'd like the same respect from your end.
