Cool, it's always interesting to see what different Lego dorks think are the cool bits. O likes the propellers + wheels.
Finally getting around to trying my hand at alters. Erasing is boooooring! + I already knew it, but I am lousy at this scale. At least I know it's not hopeless, + will pay off on 'real' canvases. . .
I am taking comfort that this photo looks worse than the actual thing
Figure I'll send these out to the clan once I get to a level worth looking at. Who wants what?
I played EDH for a bit, before I quit magic. My store ran tournaments etc, and each general could only be used by one person. I really wanted to be WUG, so my general ended up being Pheldagrif. The format is overrated, I think, but it was a decently fun time.
@Votan: Glad to hear you're doing better. It was weird the way you just vanished.
@JJ: I hate pre-season football too. Everyone gets so hyped up about it, even though it is meaningless. I mean, the Lions were 4-0 in the pre-season last year...
Plus, the only time anything memorable happens in the pre-season is when it's bad(someone gets injured etc). I thought that the regular season would start this weekend, but I guess they pushed it back a week.
The NFL season always starts the next week after college ball, which just started day before yesterday. My schools first game is today.
I think the biggest travesty in regards to preseason is that the tickets cost the same as regular season tickets. I won some free once and still wished i hadn't gone, Drew Bree threw 2 passes then sat.
Hey guys, long time no see. Apart from in the batcave, about five minutes ago.
What's been going on around here? All the hilarious details, please.
I'm in my second semester of uni, doin' photography, but you probably already knew that. I've been busy doing shoots, writing essays, cutting, pasting, editing, etc. Plus getting drunk way too much and smoking too much. Yeah, living the high life.
Ordered my new camera yesterday, and bought a ticket to see Fleetwood Mac in December. Everything's going really well at the moment. I'll try to check in more often.
Fleetwood Mac is good stuff. Going to see AC/DC in October myself.
Basically, I get all the rights and privileges of being a Global without a tag. If the admins decide I am not a waste of space, then I get the tag after some time.

Kinda unrelated, but i'd pay/trade big for that second canvas in the Abbey Road medley.
Grr. Boxes are AUS$165 pre-ordered here, what gives? That's like US$145. Surely shipping to Aus from the US isn't $60. Think I may have to cheat the system. . . I want to help my local brick&mortars, but man, what a joke.

I bring you this message on behalf of Clan Contest #4. The contest will begin this Friday, and is currently taking sign-ups. If you are interested in joining, please have your representative let me know by posting in the thread, preferably before Friday
In the spirit of our upcoming Zendikar expansion,
unique with its "Deadly Perils, Priceless Treasures" slogan,
we begin the enticing...
Clan Contest #4: SCAVENGER HUNT!
Start Date: Friday, September 11th, 2009 Deadline: Friday, October 2nd, 2009 Winners Announced: Friday, October 9th, 2009
Twenty Scavenger Hunt Items (every one's favorite starting life total!) of unique, silly, random, and/or esoteric nature will be appended to this post three days from now (Friday, September 11th, 2009), at which point this contest will begin!
Goal:To provide images (personal or public) gathered in various ways (personal camera + upload is presumably ideal, though there are some very funny and unique images out there on the great internet) of each scavenger hunt item, and receive points related to both effort and creativity. Oh and don't forget to have fun!
Example: Hypothetical Scavenger Hunt Item #14 is "Mouse". Clan A decides to use an image they found online of a cartoon mouse being all cute-like. Clan B decides to use an image one of their members has taken personally with his cell-phone camera of a mouse scampering across the floor in his basement (yipe!). Clan C decides to use an image of a computer mouse. All three entries are fine!
Participants: Every clan that notifies me via a clan representative post in this thread before the contest start date of Friday, September 11th. You may notify me any time on Friday and I will be lenient on accepting late participants, but remember you will only have three weeks after the start date to gather your images! (Above text to be appended to a list of clan participants once they have been gathered)
How to submit your images: Only one image allowed per Scavenger Hunt Item. Each participating clan's entire collection of images is to be submitted to me via a single PM (DO NOT POST THEM HERE!) before the contest deadline. Next to each image in a given PM, please include "From Internet" or "Original".
Point system: Points will be awarded per image in the following fashion:
+1 Point for an image taken from the internet +2 Points for an original image (taken/created by you or someone in your clan) +1 Point awarded in addition to the image deemed "Most Creative" of all the entries for each given item number (to be judged by myself and the three Clan Forum Moderators: Yukora, rianalnn, & Zaph). -1 Point if your image is the same (identical!) as another submitted image. This subtraction will be waived if your image is an original image (and if we get two identical original images, well, something fishy is up...).
How it will end: Once the deadline for the contest has passed, I will post each clan's submissions to this thread. One week after this (giving time for everyone to see everyones' submissions, for suspense to build, and for myself, Yukora, rianalnn, and Zaph to vote on the "Most Creative" entries) I will post the calculated scores of each clan, including the data on which image for each item entry was selected "Most Creative", and distribute the Gold, Silver, and Bronze titles!!!! The winners will of course be determined by highest total points.
Currently gathering participants! The representative of each clan that wishes to participate needs to post so in this thread by Friday, September 11th.

Ooooh....your sporting fancy now. By the time I get enough spare cash saved up the 50D'll probably be out.
Contest #4 sounds fun. Plus having 50% of the "Most Creative" vote called is nice.
@all....I don't recall Bel being bad at all...at the very least not nearly to the extent that is implied and comparing him to alex+ = overexageration. He was slightly paranoid about giving personal info...I never got his name...but I had pleasant convos with the guy. Haven't heard from him since he left the clan...I was surprised to notice the other day that he still hung around somewhere.
Weekend sucked. My Oma passed away yesterday. She seemed healthy when she visited from Holland last spring, Plus my dad talked to her Saturday and she seemed fine. Not sure exactly what happened...sudden death like that probably heart attack. I didn't know her all that well...atlantic ocean and language barrier messing things up...And she was a bit difficult to deal with at times. But she was family and having her around was fun.
Not much left in Holland now familywise...some distant extended family. Also have an Aunt that's mentally handicaped over there....not sure what's going to happen with her without immediate family left. Both options...Leaving her in a home there, or ripping her out of that comfort zone and bringing her into a place where she doesn't even know the language...both those sound cruel to an extent. Dad's all she has now though. I don't know...tough decisions that I don't have to make.
Makes you think...

Holy crap, it's the single best clan contest I've ever seen! I wonder though, am I allowed to participate in it without having been officially voted back in? If not, I suggest you guys get on that. I have a bank of 10,000+ photos I've taken, so I imagine I'll be quite able to help out.
One question for the rules lawyers. If I use Google Street View to get an image of something, is that found, or self done? I mean, I had to choose the angle and zoom at which to take the screenshot.

I would imagine that you used the intarwebys to find the image. No matter how you tweaked it, it can still be seen online by other people. That would make it an internet image in my mind.
Daggs - I'm sorry to hear about your Oma. That's a tough to swallow everytime, no matter how much you knew her. I would imagine that your aunt will be taken care of in her will. Not sure how they do those things in other countries.
"Joel" was his name. I got that from someone else...as he wouldn't budge on giving that up. He was a person that would interfere with other relationships. He would talk to the chick and tell her things then he would talk to the dude and tell him things. He would do that within the clan as well. That was a time when your activity was really low....at an all time low as I recall. I don't think you posted very much at all with the exception of accepting new members because you were always on assignment for Not Geo or something.
Waiting to hear about an interview today. Most of the team is on board with bringing me on, I just need to talk to the big boss to finalize it all. Gotta doa background check on me though....background is good....credit score is horrible. I hope that doesn't play a roll for this one. I hate that that actually matter for jobs that have nothing to do with money.

Can't argue with you there. My activity back then was low in general...not to mention I had a bajillion hiatuses...specially durring that whole Brunei thing where half the year I was gone and the other half I was hard pressed for internet. I don't even remember Alex+ being horrible...just talking about the same couple issues over and over and over again with different people and never taking any advice when it was given. Meh.
Good luck with the job. They shouldn't need to look at your credit score. I mean is the credit score now an indicator of a person's character and sense of responsibility? Might be possible I suppose...if those companies didn't go out of their way to screw everyone...
My Professor in Wildfire ecology was talking about the fire record found in old tree stumps. She likened them to grandparents who have a whole lot of information to tell if you know how to ask, but if you wait too long then they'll be gone forever. Odd timing for that...
I never talked much to my Oma...language barrier and such. But I knew she had a hard life. Born and raised in Dutch Indonesia, thrown in a Japanese concentration camp for a few years (her mother dying there), then shortly after WWII they all had to flee to the Netherlands as the Indonesians revolted. Course who didn't have a hard time during those tumultuous years.

I know, Really? My life was horrible back in those days! The Nazi's were coming down hard on us as we hunkered down in the attic of an old home. You could hear a pin drop when the SS would knock on the door looking to drag us all to Auschwitz. Wait...that wasn't me! So silly....how could get myself confused with Anne Frank!?!? That silly diary...where did it get her anyway?
So I was thinking....Zendikar might actually be a good set! You know what's going to happen though....people are going to look at the entire spoiler and be sad that the whole thing isn't as epic as enemy fetch lands! I swear I hate reading the rest of the site during rumor season. So many idots running around. I don't envy Sedds and the job he has kicking people to the curb!
Season finale of Leverage tonight....season premier of Sons of Anarchy last night was excellent! If you haven't seen that show you need to rent the first season and catch the new season this fall!! There should be a re-run of the premier this week and again on Sunday night on FX. I swear that's the greatest channel for 10:00 pm shows on TV right now! Nip/Tuck start in October....damn my fall is going to be packed!
Rev up the DVR!!!

Zendikar seems decent from what I have seen of it, I havn't be paying much attention to anything but the spoiler, I really can't stand seeing half the people post about what they think of the card, the 2/1 dude that comes back to life seems pretty cool, and the 7/7 angel thingo, the planeswalkers aren't to bad either, other than that I can't see anything else super exciting.
I never talked much to my Oma...language barrier and such. But I knew she had a hard life. And here I always thought you'd be sittin on your porch yelling at the Nazis to get off your lawn.
The new set is looking decent. Vampire galore in black...black weenie viable maybe? Not much I can use...but it does look like fun. When's the prerelease?
I think we should set up a probationary time for BLOD and maybe possibly consider a vote at the start of the next thread.
Thanks. I probably should feel worse...just a tad sad and a bit regretful. Most likely she'll be cremated and the ashes tossed in the crematorium's flowerbed like my Opa. No room for the dead there unless you're willin to shell out a ton of money for a temp plot for a few months.

My sister's useless bastard boyfriend has been trying to get a job recently, and almost did in the electronics department of Target. However, when they checked his credit, they denied him instantly.
Apparently, people with low credit stores steal from the registers more often, and they like to eliminate that problem before it starts.
That does happen from time to time. I can see where that is a good place to check a person's credit. They are dealing with cash all day everyday. I had a co-worker when I worked in the bookstore at the local community college. She was in charge of ordering the holiday inventory such as candy and decorations. When the boss was out of the store and I was at lunch she would have her husband come in and clear the place out right after the holiday would go by. She said she would sell it at an incredible discount to these older ladies that would come in a buy everything. She would also accept "returns" on electronics purchases such as calculators and some of the more expensive books. Because there was no electronic inventory, this was easy for her to accomplish. The problem is that she got greedy during one of the rushes, right when classes begin, and decided she was going to steal an entire deposit of over $5,000. It was reported as "missing" and it was eventually traced back to her. It was her "day" to deposit it to the cashier upstairs. There was no reason not to trust her. She had worked there for nearly 5 years.
I flipped when the cops showed up one day and brought her out of the back room in hand cuffs.
I smiled though...I knew why!;)

The thing is, they only watch the cashiers, they could care less about watching the cameras in the rest of the store for shoplifters.
Really????
Actually...most theft is done by people that work in the stores. The cashiers are the biggest loss of profits for large retail chains. So I'm not surprised by what you're telling us.

I suppose companies would want something to rate potential employees, and I wouldn't be surprised to see stats indicating that those with poor credit scores perform poorly elsewhere. But I think there's a bit of causation without correlation there. Plus there's the fact that your credit score will go down if you merely check your credit score. I once closed down a visa credit card I didn't need....the action of closing down an account made my mastercard change my interest from 7% to 14%. They got the books crooked in their favor, I don't see it as fair for other agencies and prospective employers using credit scores as a litmus test for good trustworthy employees.
It also means that one mistake...like a forgotten medical bill...will set you back seven years employment wise. We gonna make bad credit as bad a rap as a felony on the record?
So I just came back from an alumni/student/faculty lunch. Celebrating 100 years of the forestry department. Durring lunch we had a bit of a round robin reminiscing fest. Best story was from an old guy. Told that he got discharged for disciplinary problems from the military and enrolled in 1941. "At the time there was 100 men...and over 1000 women. I quickly learned how fun college could be."

Oh man, poor women, sorry for your loss.

My sister's
useless bastardboyfriend has been trying to get a job recently, and almost did in the electronics department of Target. However, when they checked his credit, they denied him instantly.Apparently, people with low credit stores steal from the registers more often, and they like to eliminate that problem before it starts.
* jonnyjonski goes to put on his largest pocketed pant-a-loons.
I just balk at having three cameras watching me when I work. I don't like cameras.
