Eds: Hmm, I really haven't been forum active for months now Not that I haven't had time either. Just no money or people to play the Magical stuff with and lack of will to interact with some of the people that make up MTGS members these days. Shame really.
Since when did visiting the forums have anything to do with money or playing magic? Okay maybe playing magic, but I haven't brought out my cards in ten months. I could, there certainly is a FNM place walking distance from my house, I've just no will plus the cost of a booster pack is more than my daily budget for food. That was a sad realization. Not sure I understand your lack of will to interact with MTGS members...what, we not fun enough for you anymore?
You know I'm a bit biased against Fox news....maybe its not fair. It's not like I watch it ever. Perhaps I took the words of Al Franken's book, "Lies and the lying liars who tell them: A Fair and Ballanced Look at the Right," a little too seriously, or perhaps I am not critical enough of the Jokes Jon Stewart dispenses on the Daily Show. I do have to admit that I find it funny whenever Bill O'riley is found being hypocritical...which oddly happens alot...or when Fox news treats as serious stories things that belong in the tabloids...like whether Obama is the Anti-christ or Hitler... still, I'm not sure if I'm laughing because I'm biased or if it's funny cause it's just sad.
I did discover that DTV makes watching the news a little more tollerable. I watch CNN, yeah I know it's biased, but I haven't found the BBC or public television news in the morning and out of all the american new media CNN is probably one of the better ones. I just hate how it and all other news outlets are infused with commercials. You get one story, then commercials, another story and maybe a blurb and false promises of upcoming weather, then more commercials. Now that I can forward through them I can actually watch what they have to say without being completely annoyed. Yay for efficiently wasting time.
Cheers,

Are you trying to pick a fight with me? WTF is it will liberals and Foxnews? I guess now that Bush is gone Fox is the only thing they have left to blame the worlds problems on. Anti-christ? Hitler? um ....are you sure you are watching FNC? I watch it about 9 hours a day and I've never heard anything like that. I don't care for Bill O'riley, I think he is an arrogant jerk. I don't consider myself Dem or Repub, but I do tend to often agree w/ Repubs. Still, I think FNC is the most fair news channel out there.
.
..
...
Oh David....we all know that Fox News is not the most fair and balanced news channel out there. We all know that there really isn't one that's based in the United States. They are all biased in one direction or another. If you agree with the Repubs more than Dems, you're going to think Fox is the bestest....if you agree with Dems more than Repubs, you're going to think Fox News is retarded. You like Fox News, Daggs likes CNN, I like BBC.
Let's face it...American "News" is not the factual outlet it used to be. Everyone has a slant, and that is sad. You can't just turn on a broadcast and see this...
"The new stimulus plan has been unvieled today and law makers are torn on their reactions. It looks to be a hard sell for Democrats trying to sway the Republican vote, but with a majority in both legislatures, the Dems should prevail. republicans will make their stand known though. Stock analysts are mixed, and the market seems to be realing from the news."
Instead we get from Fox...
"Obama's "New Deal" plan to bail out the poverty caused, defunct mortgage crisis brought on by the idiot poor in houses to large for their wallets has been unveiled today. As a result, the markets are crashing all over the world and cats have begun killing dogs in socialist nations around the world. This is what we have to look forward to!"
Or this from CNN...
"Our country's savior, Obama, has released his plan to revive the country from the neglect and dismal failure brough on by the Bush administration. He has decided to unviel the secrecy the Bushies had placed over the eyes of the country's people and bring to light the problems we really face."
Both are correct in a way...it's the delivery that makes the balance ....NOT!

Nothing wrong with trying to get you to post more than a line and a half all while poking fun at your most favorite bestest news channel. And the reason anyone who isn't a conservative dislikes fox news is because Fox is so slanted that I'm surprised it hasn't tipped over.
hrm...since you watch fox news 9 hours a day I must be making up what I said about fox presenting as news Obama being the Anti-christ or Hitler.
WTF is it will liberals and Foxnews? I guess now that Bush is gone Fox is the only thing they have left to blame the worlds problems on.
Almost. You gotta remember Fox has always been considered biased ever since Roger Ailes became their president. So Bush leaving doesn't change the perception of Fox news. Fox news reporting that Obama isn't the president cause he didn't have his hand on the bible when he was sworn in, or that he couldn't procure his birth certificate...kinda indicate an interesting biase. But I digress, you are partially right. Now that Bush and his cronies are gone there is a bit of a void...Comedians are scrambling to find material to fill that void. They can't just grab the latest presidential announcement and joke at the new words, misspronunciations, hypocracies, or idiotic behavior. All they really have are jokes at how different Obmama is from Bush...and increasing jokes at Fox news. So to fill the void there are more examples of Bill O'riley being hypocritical and stupid biased stories from fox that should be in the tabloids.
Oh...and a few things about Biden. He's kinda silly.
I don't consider myself Dem or Repub, but I do tend to often agree w/ Repubs. Still, I think FNC is the most fair news channel out there.
I wonder? Exactly what do you agree with the republicans? Is it the big government, inflated budget, environmental corruption, and the fiscal irresponsibility of the past eight years?
I actually find this very ironic to the point of hilarity. I disagreed with bush strongly when he was first elected but I thought at least he would streamline the size of the government and be fiscally responsible. I would have never guessed that he would dramatically increase the governments size and turn a surplus into a massive deficit. More suprising was that Bush's fellow republicans went allong with him. Now they are all out in arms about inflated budgets and increasing government...where the hell were they in the last eight years?
The big thing I have against republicans, besides not standing for what they were suppose to stand for, is their priorities. Particularly the priorities of the ultra-conservative. Gay Marriage and Abortion rights should never be issues on par with war, economics, education, healthcare, and even environment. But gay marriage and abortion rights become a hot topic for the ultra-conservatives every election.
JJ is right of course. About there always being a bias. I would argue that CNN's biase is not nearly as strong as Fox news on the political spectrum. But then we might be arguing semantics and I'm fully aware that CNN isn't the least Biased news sorce in America. Nancy Grace also belongs to CNN and her presence alone pretty much tarnishes CNN's credibility. Anyone who shows adult pitbulls ripping each other apart for a story about a pitbull puppy just reaks of being incapable of honest reporting.
The BBC channel sucks. Every time I change to it to see if there is news they are in the middle of some old James bond movie. WTF.

Didn't Oz and Germany vote in More conservative leaders? Seemed Europe was being all conservative on imagration, say no to muslims, and whatknot. And the entire middle east is probably ultra-conservative church=state mongers.
I would say that the numbers are probably more dependant on how industrialized a nation is. And in those places probably around your numbers...especially in western europe.

Fox news reporting that Obama isn't the president cause he didn't have his hand on the bible when he was sworn in..
Now that one I know isn't true. I Know I was watching FNC that day and I never heard anything like that. In fact I remember being suprised the next day when they played the audio of the 2nd swearing in. I remember thinking it was pretty stupid that he had to do that. ...But I suppose that's Fox's doing also..

Oh right, I forgot. You are the all time expert on all things Fox News and if you didn't hear it then there is no way it happened. Out of sight out of mind right.

First of all, they are not standing for what they believe in, definately not what you've just written...or at least hadn't for the past eight years. Thats the big deal. When the republican controlled everything increased government size and turned a surplus into a huge deficit you know things are out of whack. A big chunk of the Republican response to Obama's speech the other day was about how the republican's had lost touch with their base but they are better now. You know what? You can't mess with your Ideals then do an about face like that. Its no wonder people turned to Dems for fiscal responsiblity and government responsibility.
I didn't say I don't like Republican priorities. I said I don't like how Ultra-conservatives turn Gay Marriage and Abortion into priorities on par with War, economy, and everything else. I do think Republicans are wrong about tax cuts being the solution to all the worlds ills and I think government programs in many cases are useful. Fundamental disagreement between parties here.
I also like Obama's priorities of Economy, Energy, and Education. But then I would have been fine with McCain's priorities of Economy, War, and cutting funding to everything and anything except war (Though this last one would have made me cringe a bit).
What was up with Bobby Jindal citing Volcano research as wasteful spending? A governer of a state that was devastated by a natural disaster saying that research about a natural disaster like a volcano is wasteful just doesn't sound right. I mean it is good to know when those things errupt. But besides that, I am sure there were tons of other much better examples of wasteful spending available. Poor Choice imo. On par with McCain critisizing Bear research out of context and Palin critisizing Fruit fly research*.
And yes Dave....you did burn me.....ouch
Cheers,
Daggertooth
*In case I didn't mention before and incase you didn't already know. Research on the fruitfly was the beginnings of genetics as we know it and later developments eventually allowed us to sequence entire genomes.
Edit: I was thinking a bit and I think I may have misspoke again. This time about the various research topics being on par with each other. Without the context bear research is in I don't know what its exact worth is, at least beyond human curiosity. Fruit fly research was fundamental and groundbreaking, but unless you remember biology 101 from highschool the average person might not know this subject's worth. Volcano research, on the other hand, would probably stand up there as a subject with obvious merits to benefit the human race. I would think that even the average laymen would know the dangers of volcanos and the value of prediction. I still think Jidal could have picked a much better topic to critisize wasteful spending.

I quit watching the news on TV. Of course it helps that my TV doesn't work, so...
Having said that, I get Al Jazeera on the net. Seriously, where else are you gonna get an article with a title like Obama's defence conundrum: Why the military industrial complex poses an economic headache for the US president.
I was kindof skeptical at first, but once you read past the obvious anti-american bias, it seriously is the most analytical reporting on the 'net. To be honest, the bias is even refreshing sometimes, because they'll bring up genuine problems that nobody in this country can talk about :p. Of course just so you don't think I'm a complete screwjob, I also read the Herald Trib.
I was told today that this kid on my team called 911 twice this morning and hung up both times. They called back and his dad answered. The reason the kid called 911? He got an erection and didn't know what to do. I wish I was making this up.

I wanted to be the first to say HAPPY BIRTHDAY DAGGS since I'm from the future and I'm allowed to do these things, so daggs, what are you doing for your day of birth?
Brian, what's the decklist like on that combo deck you're rocking in Shandalar?
It was a Timetwister/Artifact Mana/Whimsey deck; use Hurkyl's Recall to bounce + replay your Moxen/Lotii, Timetwister/other Draw 7's to reset your hand until you've got an insane amount of mana to dump in your X spell of choice (I went with Whimsey 'cos by the time you get multiple Power in the World game, everyone else is small fry).
At the moment I've switched over to Berserk-Tog, because turn 2 wins are funny. This one is pretty fragile in the World game until you get a pile of Draw 7's, Berserks and Power, but it tears down any deck; typically it's
T1 Mox out an Atog (or tutor him/TimeTwister into him), dump a bunch of cheap artifact mana/Black Vise/Ivory Tower, Time Walk,
T2 float some mana, stack TimeTwister, eat artifacts, draw into Berserk. Never loses, although you get some cheese wins (80+ power trampling 'tog swinging in while @1 life facing an insane army of death, or my favourite yet, on the play keeping a 1-mox hand + Black Vise, never drawing another playable + winning off of the Vise).
I've only just discovered the build-a-deck-strictly-to-duel feature (after being addicted to Sealed for a week -_-; ), so I'm digging through that for any other potential combo decks. Channel-Fireball or Timetwister are pretty much your engines, it seems. Bizarre that Bazaar of Baghdad is almost worthless in this format!
Cloudkey makes sense for the contest.....it is a bit of a cheepskate. Dark confident strikes me as a punk too. Taking as much as he can get then insulting the waitress. Could go either way I suppose.
Thanks for the birthday wishes guys. I spent it hung over as the day before I went on the town a la Travis.
Well...no. Travis typically has fun adventures...Mine was...interesting. I stayed home and took several shots of Jack Daniels and Southern Comfort. Then, already buzzed, I went with my roomate's boyfriend, my roomate being too young, and headed to some random bar. There I drank one backdraft...which pushed me over whatever limit I've ever experienced. Basically it showed that before this moment in time I had never been drunk in my life. Well I was still following the guy arround but realized that I was going to puke...so I told him I was going to be back and staggared to the bathroom.
...well...I didn't make it. Yeah...messey but not a ton so I still made my way to the bathroom. Well apparently the Bar has a rule about the need to keep stomach contents inside the stomach and they wouldn't even let me use their bothroom. Instead they escorted me out and I was too ♥♥♥♥ed up to object...plus I probably deserved it. So I was in the bar for about five minutes. Well I sat completely oblivious to the world on a park bench for who knows how long. Emptying my stomach and perhaps sleeping a little...I've no idea. finally I decided that I wanted to walk home. I had a hard time staggaring, Sometimes going in a full circles as I struggled to keep ballance, vaugly remember people passing me by occasionally as I hugged the building walls for stability.
Eventually I got to an intersection and heavilly leaned on a light post as I tried to foccus on where I was. I had no idea and only a slight notion of where I needed to go. Then someone in a yellow vehicle stopped and some guy told me that I needed to get out of sight before the police saw me. He then demanded that I get into his car...to which I obliged. I tried to tell him where I needed to go...but couldn't...so I mentioned a gas station close to my appartment. Next thing I know I'm struggling to get out of the car at the gas station. I've no idea if I talked to the guy, slept, puked, or whatever...but I still had my wallet and kidneys so I thanked him and staggared the rest of the way home before collapsing for the night.
I have no idea what kind of person picks up a staggaring drunk with puke on his shirt at 1am in the morning...but I am eternally greatfull for that. Not sure I'd have made it home at all considering I wasn't sure where I was.
So I was so hung over on my birthday that I couldn't keep food down properly until 8:00pm and even today the world has a bit of a sureal feel to it and I still feel slightly nausiated. Interesting experience...a bit embarasing at times...and not something I'd like to do too often.
Cheers,
Daggertooth

I love Whimsy. As soon as I saw it, I tried to build the same deck, but mine was hit or miss.
The main deck I am currently using is a G/W/u Rabid Wombat...thing. I'm thinking of cutting the blue out and going with just G/W; I just love it so much when the computer stops playing spells because my life total is too high.:glee:
I always wondered at that, it just gives up sometime. 'Putes has a real hard time with rampage, too. Often you can get it to multi block a guy if no single creature will kill it but multiples would - if dude didn't have rampage - Oh! Cleared your board.
I try to avoid the ice altogether. I knew I was going beyond my liver's detox capabilities...How for I actually went was quite a surprise to me. Never did that before...don't care to do that again. Something unnerving about not remembering large portions of a night.
You know, I have noticed the start of a bit of a trend recently. At least with regards to those who watch the news. Most people will acknowledge bias in the news media and if there is disagreement it exists merely in the degree of bias. However, this does not seem to be the case with Fox news supporters. Now I only know of two people like this, which entails a negligible sample size, so I'm curious if you've experienced this as well. Both people will tell you that Fox news is the best unbiased news source in America and will even quote Fox's Motto of "Fair and Balanced" as proof of Fox's superiority. This by itself wouldn't be strange except that i know of no one at all that clings to any specific news source in this fashion. I know JJ and I have spoken positively of BBC and NPR and I've said good things about CNN...but I don't think either of us would cling to any as the absolute in news. JJ, you'd have to correct me if I am wrong about you here. Now I think Dave may be playing it up a little as he knows he will get a response...but my other friend is serious and even takes Bill O'riley as Gospel. I just find this interesting.
I've started trying to record the "NewsHour with Jim Lehre" and watch that in the mornings instead of CNN. I grow weary of CNN. It's a combination of Comercials and CNN's obsession with Twitter thats bothering me. I could care less about advertising and I could really care less about what some typically uninforming individual can quickly skim off the top of his head. And when the other day had a long commercial followed by a Twitter read off followed by more commercials...well bah! It doesn't matter how biased or unbiased you are if you don't even report on news!

I realize it's been a few days since I've posted here....I'm reading up on all the exchanges...it's rather amusing. I had a long Saturday at a PTQ and have just been sitting back taking it all in.
Daggs....happy bleated birthday. From the post I imagine it was rather eventful....sort of. As for you assumptions on the News Gazers....I think you've got it pretty much right. To have anyone take what O'Riley says as gospel is retarded. He has been wrong so many times....it's only because he's so wrong that he's still on the air.
I did alright at the PTQ on Saturday. I went 3-3-1 with Fae....and the only times i lost were when my mana wouldn't show up. I'm gonna make some tweaks I think. Well I wouldn't call my friend who likes Bill retarded. I've had great intelligent conversations with him and we even agree with each other on gun and environmental issues (Though I bet we disagree with the details of the EPA). Our main disagreements tend to be around social issues. Where I feel they are necessary to an extent but need revision as they stand now he simply wants to do away with them. Still, I wouldn't have guessed him to be a fox news watcher and Bill fan until he told me.
Course there are some people I just can't talk to. I recall a debate with a another friend that just went nowhere. The kid would tell me that there is no racism in america, no sexism in america, and that the stock markets are a for sure thing (this was back when bush was trying to put everyones social security into stocks). I'd look up data to counter his arguments and he would just make ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ up...without telling me. Once I found out he was just pulling ♥♥♥♥ out of his ass I stopped discussing things with him.
Course this is why I stay out of the debates round here. I invest too much time into them and get half a paragraph of typically uniformed opinionated response.
Not bad at the PTQ JJ. Hopefully next time you don't get mana screwed.
Cheers,
Daggertooth
Edit: What's with the hearts instead of stars? Plus since when was "Bull" a swear?
Edit deux: Speaking of racism, some I get some I don't. Example...hangman's noose....remember all the uproar over it's use? Since when did the hangman's noose become a symbol of black oppression? I figured it was just an execution device, no more race oriented than the electric chair or firing squad.
That Newsweek(?) comic...yeah, I can totally see how offencive that one was. Monkey gets shot by police, police stating "guess we need someone to draft a new stimulous package", a day after Obama signs the stimulous package. Wow...couldn't believe the editors let it pass. course some folk seemed focused on the monkey thing. While I can see why, Bush was compared to monkeys on a regular basis. I'd think the implied assassination would have been the primary focus.
This one has me totally confused. There's a picture with the whitehouse in the background and rows and rows of watermellons in the lawn. Caption reads, "No easter egg hunt this year." Aparently a mayor in Orange County emailed it and appologized over the uproar it caused.... I think maybe even had to step down. Bit fuzzy on the details here. Thing is, I am at a loss here. What do Watermelons have to do with Easter, eggs, or Racism?
Blame my utah upbringing for the ignorance....meh, happens.

Guys, a contact of mine just told me there was an emergency $500 billion bailout passed, approved, and carried out just a few hours ago. Something really big is happening right now, during the night, in the US. I'm awaiting some funds to transfer into my US account so I can use them to pay bills, but I can't log into my US bank account. Gives me some really weird error I've never seen before. What the hell is going on?! Nothing at all on CNN, it's being talked about on youtube though.

Fair enough & well put. ...I think Jonski needs a News program!

WTF.

Now....everyone really has to understand...that the majority of the world outside of the United States is far more "left" than 80%-85% of most liberal dems in the states.
just so's you knows
Didn't Oz and Germany vote in More conservative leaders? Seemed Europe was being all conservative on imagration, say no to muslims, and whatknot. And the entire middle east is probably ultra-conservative church=state mongers.
I would say that the numbers are probably more dependant on how industrialized a nation is. And in those places probably around your numbers...especially in western europe.

Thats the clip on the anti-chist/hitler thing. Guess I have to make a retraction. CNN reported the Anti-christ thing...Fox News reported the Hitler thing. Guess I better fire up the BBQ cause I'm gonna be eating Crow. I seem to recall people comparing bush to Hitler and the anti-christ as well. I wonder if that got any media coverage...probably did.

So...?.. You say you don't like their priorities and that they take certain issues too seriously? [sarcasm] Yeah, your right. What do they think they are doing standing up for what they believe in? They should think more like the Dems do. = Let Government do everything for us. Why should we work or use or brains? = That's what we pay taxes for. [/sarcasm]

Are you a pilot or a creator??

Going out to dinner with some friends tonight, yay socializing
Having said that, I get Al Jazeera on the net. Seriously, where else are you gonna get an article with a title like Obama's defence conundrum: Why the military industrial complex poses an economic headache for the US president.
I was kindof skeptical at first, but once you read past the obvious anti-american bias, it seriously is the most analytical reporting on the 'net. To be honest, the bias is even refreshing sometimes, because they'll bring up genuine problems that nobody in this country can talk about :p. Of course just so you don't think I'm a complete screwjob, I also read the Herald Trib.

Brian, what's the decklist like on that combo deck you're rocking in Shandalar?
Official Deschanel Stalker of The Called
Cheers,
Daggertooth

I'm looking at a more aggro build I'm going to try. Go back to the Type 2 style build that's done so well in the past. Take some folks off guard!
Hi. Nice of you to drop by once in a blue moon.
Where is everybody?
